I'm really nervous about the "hundreds of years" rather than "thousands of years" even though they make reference to the "over a thousand generations" comment from Obi-Wan.

Are they going to allow for a full scale war less than 1,000 years before ANH? Goes against a few established comments. More than 1,000 years before opens the door to potential Sith involvement.. Would be better to be completely open with no restrictions.

200yrs before episode I. I am quite skeptical about this too. But I'm sure in true Disney style they'll be able to fit it all in without a care for the old cannon.

its obvious why that period. they can fill in the gaps with books/etc that fans are therefore emotionally tied to because of eoisode 1 and the PT existing

Still a fishbowl. It's like they're scared to not link it to the trilogy in some way or form.

You are in the Republic era, which spanned a thousand years after the Jedi civil war & Mando wars up to TPM and the eventual dissolution and reformation into an Empire, and you choose 200 years, where previously a little known wookie was born and named Chewbacca.

It's disheartening.

Yoda is around, seems like Chewbacca could be around, no full scale war can take place, urgh.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy we're getting a more in-depth book series with a coordinated approach from authors, but the next big focus for SW? This ain't it..

Referring to that list of ideas, I'm not sure how the Sith Empire can be involved with this but they better not **** up anything about the Rule of Two.

They literally chose the time period with the least potential. No Sith, no full scale conflict, i don't see how it would be worth it to create movies for small skirmishes that have little to no effect on anything. 200 years before TPM is still awfully close when the galaxy is supposedly 20000+ years old.

The fall of the Jedi was because they continued to learn how to defeat the Sith of old, which died out 1000 years before TPM. If the High republic is only 200 years before then that shortens the gradual downfall greatly. If it was 600-700 years before then it would have made sense.

The announcement doesn’t overly excite me, I largely attribute that to a general apathy given the disappointment of the sequel trilogy.

It’s an interesting concept though, encouraging that we’re going into largely unexplored territory. However a few question marks like others have raised whether the timeline is too close to episode 1.

I think people whinging about diversity are morons so the above image is a huge eye roll to me (I'm referring to the circled bits not the original image). It's a brainstorming session it was probably before they even plotted out when it would be set.

I'll give it a chance though, but if it becomes too silly/fantasy/disconnected from what is Star Wars, then eh.

Agree but listing "chaos agents'?
WTF? Is this year 7 curriculum for creative writing brainstorming?

Yeah seems a bit of a strange list, and a strange thing to then reveal in a video.
