I'd prefer some dark "spin off" films that took place between Eps 3 and 4 (which is about a 20 year time period) that puts the focus away from the Skywalker story, so no need to deal with the difficulty of re-casting main original trilogy characters such as Luke/Han/Leia/Ben as they aren't needed anyway. The stories would focus more on the setting up of the Rebellion and the early battles with the Empire with sub plots that can relate to the first Death Star. Show the Rebels setting up base at Dantooine as was mentioned in ANH. Show a little bit of the new "Imperial Senate" on Coruscant, but keep the Star Wars political talk to a bare minimum. Introduce new protagonists but I'm sure fans wouldn't mind re-casting younger versions of minor rebel characters such as Mon Mothma, Crix Madine and General Dodonna and giving them larger roles. Could ask Jimmy Smits if he'd want to play Bail Organa again. Can have the droids. Could certainly have old antagonists such as Vader (your Star Wars cash cow), the Emperor, a young Tarkin, Boba Fett and the other bounty hunters, and Jabba to give it that 'original trilogy' feel to them. Throw in a scene of Jar Jar getting killed. :) If done right (no Lucas), they'd be more of a chance of being well received and be successful with a ready made setting rather than with the great unknown that will be Episodes 7-9.

Saw this online as a concept poster which has a Star Trek twist to it.

Have his child/wife Killed because he was restraining himself, then lashes out with the dark side.......goes hunting down those responsible and over time see's the power of the dark side and justifies by high lighting if he'd been more ruthless blah blah blah.

Done right people would eat that shit up. Then you have the option bringing him back to light by making him realise what he's become. (add a whole about to kill a defenceless child thing)
this storyline would suck.

J.J. Abrams to Direct Star Wars: Episode VII

January 24, 2013

by Eric Goldman

A new report says that the director for Star Wars: Episode VII has been found and it’s none other than J.J. Abrams. The Wrap is reporting the huge news, saying that Abrams has agreed to direct the highly-anticipated film (to say the least) after months of being courted by new Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy. Back in November, Abrams specifically said he was not going to do the film (indicating he had been asked), but as The Wrap puts it, “The lure of the Jedi was too strong.”

More to come...

Michael Arndt is writing the script. He was writer for Toy Story 3 and Little Miss Sunshine. Some may not like these movies (can't see why) but no disputing both had great character development, something, as we all know, severely lacking in second trilogy debacle.

I actually think Abrams will do a pretty good job. Star Trek was pretty much exactly what a modern Star Wars should be. Unfortunately its just not what a modern Star Trek should have been.

He's a much better fit for this franchise.

Well, it was one thing a modern Trek film needed to be - commercially and critically successful. I wasn't a fan of it, but if it lays the groundwork for a successful and long-running new series of films which soon find their feet, then he's well and truly done his job.

I agree that he's a much better fit for Star Wars, though.

Star Trek was enjoyable but felt a bit padded. It also had a bit too much comedy for my tastes but I suppose they were aiming at a broad audience. Its sequel should surely be better since they've already introduced the main characters.

I'd be surprised if Abrams directs a bad Star Wars film.
