Series XV - the skippers speak
x57Tfyy.png

As Season 29 of the Sweet FA nears its crescendo, thoughts begin to turn towards representative qooty, as Series XV of State of Origin looms large on the horizon.

With the carnival set to kick off in early January, it promises to be an action packed month of qooty, with 120 players from across the competition signed up, willing and ready to represent their states in the ultimate qooty test.

I got together this week with the captains, as we caught up one on one to announce their vice captaincy selections, and to share their thoughts on the upcoming series, as we gain some unique insight into what the concept means to each of them, and how they see their state’s prospects for the upcoming carnival.

A big thank you to all the captains for Series XV, Dingster, ClarkeM, NaturalDisaster, spookism and Tarkyn_24.

So in the words of one of the great minds of our time, strap yourselves in!! We’ve got a huge carnival coming our way in January, this will be qooty at it’s finest.

TiF: Congratulations Dingster on being selected once again to captain your State of Origin side, you must be thrilled. How important to you is the State of Origin concept for the Sweet FA?
Dingster:
The Allies have a rich history of leaders so the culture has been handed down by the likes of fitzroybowiedog and The Filth Wizard and with the majority of our team being made up of Queenslanders and NSW, we get the passion of origin better than other states. It's important that the rest of the SFA get see the sublime quality of the Allies as a unit. Everyone needs hope friend.

TiF: You’ve selected AceAndy as your vice captain for the series, how did that come about? and what do you think he’ll bring to the side and to your leadership group?
Dingster:
TFW was adamant about passing the the captaincy to someone with the right amount of passion and leadership to engage the team. I was his VC last series and having not played with Filth at club level, it was good play alongside him at rep level. So heeding TFW's words, I chose Ace who is doing a great job as captain at the Dragons and is just as passionate in leading a successful Allies team. He will be the ideal person to take over the captaincy the following series.

TiF: The Allies had an ok showing last series mate, ultimately ending up 2-2 and finishing in 4th place, but you'd be looking to improve heading into Series XV. You look to have assembled another strong squad this series, can you see yourselves being #firsttofour and beating WA to the punch?
Dingster:
We have a great mix of experience and new talent which will take us to next level crazy good. TFW, FBD, AB, Clod, Loons, Hatchy, BRAB and SD are top drawer. Then we have the likes of Yakker, U2, IDC and Nunez who have all tasted premiership success. Add the likes of Ace, Callum_Guns, harry000, HawkAussie and Riviat and we have some of the best young talent in the SFA. Look out for Lemon Boi who is yet to play a SFA game and will make his debut in a rep game and not his club. That must be a first. He's an exciting talent.

TiF: Who do you see playing off in the decider this series?
Dingster:
We'll beat SA in the final. I'd like to say WA mate, but you're carrying too many to get there.

TiF: Which side are you most wary of heading into the series?
Dingster:
The Vic Counts. Word on the street is no insurance company will touch ClarkeM or Mobbs

TiF: You’ve been a big supporter of the concept throughout your career, what’s the most enjoyable thing about SFA State of Origin that keeps you coming back?
Dingster:
I spent a lot of years at the Bears, so initially it was great to play alongside some of the best posters in all of Sweet. That passion and enjoyment is still there and it's always a treat to play alongside the best in the business.

TiF: There’s some new faces in the side this series, who are you most excited about pulling on the jumper with?
Dingster:
I touched on this earlier. Ace, Callums_Guns, harry000, HawkAussie and Riviat all bring a lot to the table. It's quite a diverse posting group and it will be interesting to see how they work with some of Sweet's greatest players. Riviat has been up and about already. He won't take a backward step.

TiF: Cheers Ding, hope you get to be there on the day to see us win it. :thumbsu:

Ha ha, I legit thought I was VC, was wondering when the team PM would start. Now I realise I forgot to press send on that reply. Happy to be back in the shadows guy. This is a sensational posting outfit.

Dingster clearly the most inspirational SoO skipper :thumbsu: Allies line-up is clearly elite.

Looking forward to taking these pesky Victorians, South Australians and Western Australians to the cleaners this January.

You've been robbed.

Filth for captain NOW

You're the designated league legend.

Lol no, I saw what went wrong. This captaincy group will be very good for keeping this series rolling for the Allies.

I can tell you're upset.

Let's make you captain.

I'm going to pair you two up on our first away game.

It's just confusing as to why ant bear is in a representative team when he's only out for himself.

Man would strangle an infant child for a Mobbs Medal

I know mate. It's a big challenge but there's no better mentor in all of Sweet than you to slap some origin spirit into AB. You have a free licence to get it done.

TiF: Congratulations ClarkeM on being selected once again to captain your State of Origin side, you must be thrilled. How important to you is the State of Origin concept for the Sweet FA?
ClarkeM:
Thanks TIF. I'm not sure if thrilled is the word I'd use but I'm definitely honoured to be still considered sane enough to be put in charge of the Counts. The State of Origin remains one of the key events in the Sweet FA calendar and I hope that it's continuation lives long now it has been reborn. State of Origin is the space away from the clubs and cultures that exist with each other to have some fun in a breakaway competition while also maintaining some semblance to the Sweet FA history and core identity.

TiF: You’ve selected Sparkle as your vice captain for the series, how did that come about? and what do you think they’ll bring to the side and to your leadership group?
ClarkeM:
The SoO allows for players old and new to be involved on a scheduled basis so I see this as an opportunity to blood new and young leaders into the competition which hopefully enables them a pathway for future Sweet FA leadership positions.

TiF: You’ve taken over the captaincy for Series XV from The Half Back, and Country are coming off an agonising defeat in Series XIV against reigning champs SA in the decider. I think we’re all expecting another strong showing from a powerful Counts side this series, What will you be looking to change to go one better?
ClarkeM:
I think I'll play on the left Back Pocket this time instead of the right. That's probably about it, to be honest. Also, we may have to consider benching croweater 41 for the entire series.

TiF: Who do you see playing off in the decider this series?
ClarkeM:
We will be playing the Allies I hope. Nothing better than giving a makeshift team filled with misfits a sense of hope and then crushing them.

TiF: Which side are you most wary of heading into the series?
ClarkeM:
Did WA get a team going this season? They're probably the most annoying because they're so far away and you really have to explain things to them like you do when you're talking to children. It takes a lot of focus when bantering or in the case of WA, babysitting.

TiF: You’ve been a big supporter of the concept throughout your career, arguably perhaps even the biggest over the stretch. What’s the most enjoyable thing about SFA State of Origin that keeps you coming back?
ClarkeM:
Winning the premiership as a captain of Vic Country in the same season as when the Wonders won their Season 13 premiership. I don't think there could have been a better script for someone who is a team player like me - I said ME. Don't forget about ME!

TiF: There’s some new faces in the side this series, who are you most excited about pulling on the jumper with?
ClarkeM:
I'm not concerned or excited about playing with anyone this season. So long as we continue to stay true to ourselves and our Vic Country heritage, we will all be there for one another. We know people want to play for us but sorry, we stick true to our guns. This isn't a State of Choice, it's a State of Origin and if you're being unORIGINal then get the fu** out and go play fantasy cricket.

TiF: Thanks for your time ClarkeME, hope you get to be there on the day when we win it :thumbsu:

I do love the Dingster but if the selectors were serious they would have gone with the statistically winningest captain in the history of the SFA .... #Mr74%

I’m currently looking at a map of Australia and just struggling to find these two states. It’s almost as if they aren’t actually states.
You got to the map of Tasmania and got distracted.

With the lack of pubic hair these days I imagine it's only a matter of time before "map of Tasmania" is confined to the history books like hand clutches and the dial up internet sound
