State your bandwagon for pick 8

Fair enough, but he seemed to be emphasising the point. The comment is consistent with the drafting strategy in previous years. There's been speculation that we will take best mid (or best key defender) but I think people should be prepared for any type of player.

It's on the lion's homepage.

Best available doesn't appear to be as crystal clear this year.

I've heard it said that players taken in the 5-13 range this year are roughly equal.

Regardless of what Gubby says, I think club needs will be shaping perceptions of 'best available' this year.

I've liked the looks of Kannis for a while, whats the buzz surrounding him?

Would it be presumptious to get on board the 'Kannis for Rookie List' wagon?

As for pick 8, we really are at the whim of the clubs ahead of us, but by the same token, I'm sure we have a list of 4-5 who are firmly in our sights.

Highly unlikely, but if Kreuzer were available at 8, then based off Gubby's comments we would draft another ruckmen which IMO would be a joke to waste on pick 8 - later on on the draft i am all for it, but not on 8.

Surely it has to be a mid or a key position defender considering what quality there is on offer, but unlikely we would be presented with such a predicament but an interesting hypothetical anyway.

The others wont be there for pick 8 will they, maybe we can pick up crackers to replace Cam.

What others won't be there?

Its almost certain that at least one of Masten, Ebert, Rioli or Myers will be available at pick 8.

Perhaps not, but we don't know how the club rates the players.

This sounds like a similar reasoning to why most people didn't think we would take Leuenberger last year. Perhaps the Lions will be hoping a midfielder is best available, but if recent history is any guide, 'needs' do not get addressed in the first round.

I have seen Rioli play, he would be a great addition to our team, but i am not sure.

You would think he will go to essendon, or richmond.

They are both very strong with their off field structures for Indigenous players.

I reckon Essendon will take Palmer, Masten or Ebert.

And Rioli's quality means he won't be taken by Richmond with their first selection, and will be gone by their second.

I have no concerns over our ability to look after the young indigenous players, especially with CJ as our development coach. Will be exciting times if we get Rioli. Apparently has a very good head on his shoulders.

Apparently has a very good head on his shoulders.

I'm not so sure. I read this:

But they are still to be convinced of his dedication, with his draft camp skinfolds less than brilliant and with his total commitment to AFL football not yet proven.

Also it is reported he wants to stay in Melbourne, so I think it's unlikely that Brisbane will take him.

Yeah, the fact we didn't speak to him at draft camp isn't a good sign for him.

I don't think we'll take him either, but if we do, I'd still be happy.

Joseph at 63, WTF? Brisbane would surely grab Joseph before Hill, especially that late in the draft...

Sure Brisbane needs a top up ruck, but they could grab one in the RD.

I think the issue is that Hill has a fair bit of gumby about him at the moment but he's young and raw. If he spends the summer concentrating on footy, then the development could be remarkable. Clubs (Brisbane obviously at the forefront) can make the choice between using a speculative pick now or running the risk that he develops into a real prospect next year.

You make the point about it being "that late in the draft". That's exactly why a punt can be taken.

Henderson at number 8? no way, we don't need a tall forward at all?

I'd imagine Henderson might be an option at CHB. I have heard that he was very highly rated as a 16 year old but that injuries have held him back this year.

So would I but I'm concerned he'll be another Headland.

Should not influence our decision.

For every Des Headland, there are 5 Simon Blacks, Luke Powers, Justin Leppitschs etc...
