Re: Post your stats questions here

Just wondering if anyone could tell me what the highest number of 300 game milestones reached in a single decade is?
Surely Adelaide is a chance with 4 this decade with Ben Hart, Mark Ricciuto, Andrew McLeod and Tyson Edwards.

Dogs have had five since 2005. Hawthorn had five in the 80's.

From wikipedia re AFL Draft eligibility:

Currently to be eligible for the draft, a player must be at least 17 years of age on or before 30 April in the year in which they are drafted. This has been slowly increased over the past few years due to concerns about school age players potentially having to leave home to play football in another state. For the 2009 draft the eligibility age has been increased by 4 months so players must be 18 on 31 December in the year in which they are drafted.

Thus, which players have been the youngest debutants since the introduction of the VFL/AFL Draft?

Re: Post your stats questions here

Just saw that Ablett Jnr had 40 touches again, that makes it 4 times in the 2009 season.

I was wondering...

a) is this the most 40+ possession games a player has had in a single season?
b) who has the record for the most 40+ possession games over their career?

Cheers.

To answer myself, in part, Greg Williams got 40+ 5 times in '85 when at Geelong, interestingly he only polled Brownlow votes in 3 of them. In fact 4 times in his career he got over 40 touches and didn't poll a vote, which seems mad for such a good user of the ball; and on 15 occasions he had 35-39 disposals without getting a single vote.

Re: Post your stats questions here

I was thinking the other day are there any teams that have scored one goal (and how ever many behinds) or less and won the game. Also what is the lowest ever wining score

eg. Round 9 1897
Geelong 1.9 15
Melbourne 0.10 10

It's happened three other times, the lowest winning score is 14.

Williams' tally overall was 14. Of course this table only represents an eyeblink of the total history.
Code:
14 Greg Williams
10 Robert Harvey
07 Nathan Buckley
07 Barry Mitchell
06 Paul Couch
06 Chris McDermott
05 Tony Shaw
05 Mark Bairstow
04 Wayne Campbell
04 Terry Wallace
04 Simon Atkins
04 Scott West
04 Gary Ablett
04 Craig Bradley

Cheers Paul. Good work. Surprised to see McDermott up there, though that might just be me.

Re: Post your stats questions here

Where can I find stuff about player contracts? Like who started in what year, when their contract expires, etc.

I pretty much want a website that has one of these for every player (EXAMPLE: Cyril Rioli, Contract: 2008-2011)

That data doesn't exist in one place AFAIK (other than AFL headquarters, and they're not telling). Googling players' names along with phrases like "new contract", "year contract" etc. is your best bet, or looking on club forums.

Re: Post your stats questions here

I am not sure if anyone can verify this, but is the 15 year age difference between Peter "Spider" Everitt (born in 1974) and Andrejs Everitt (born in 1989) the greatest between two brothers to have played in the AFL/VFL?

Certainly, it is possible to have a greater difference, especially in the first half of the 20th century when large families were common, but I cannot think of a greater difference off-hand.

There may be other, larger age differences, but the greatest I can find after a cursory search is

Bob Rush (Co) b. 19/10/1880
Kevin Rush (Ri) b. 29/3/1901

Re: Post your stats questions here

In a couple of trade games I'm in a lot of coaches try to get away with naming players out of position.

I know it's probably a fair bit of work but does anyone have records on where players have been named each week for their AFL teams?

If not, does anyone know anywhere I can get fast, easy access to all team sheets showing players in position for all 2009 games?

Re: Post your stats questions here

does anyone know which players have kicked the most behinds in a match, without kicking a goal?

I remember last year franklin kick 1.10 or something, it would be interesting to see who was the most inaccurate kick on any given day

I think the record is 0.12 by Richmond's Tom Allen v North Melbourne at Punt Road in 1949 (in his first senior game).
