It isn't a case of underestimating Stenglein, it's more a case of him not being a required player at West Coast.
Grolm37 said:also lets face it Steglein isnt going to say anything about wanting to go home until he is told by WCE that they will try and get him.
i'm not even sure that he has annouced he wants to go home pure speculation (mind you its a bit like the stevens saga we all knew he wanted to leave)
Pretty sure he has stated it in various interviews and articles in the Advertiser.

Adeliade had more than enough forwards and look where that landed us
We're talking quality here not chucking names into a hat and pulling one out and saying he is a forward.
West Coast has Cousins, Judd, Fletcher, Kerr, Butler, Chick, Embley, Braun, Waters, Selwood, Wooden and Sampi, Nicoski and Wirrpunda, who can all play in the midfield and all play well. Add Morton in this draft as well as the fact that we still have players like Green, Chambers and Humm who are all midfielders who aren't getting a game, and it is plain as the nose on your face that we don't need another midfielder.
With that in mind, the point is that he is a quality midfielder but who do you expect us to move out of the centre to cater for him. At the moment we would have close to the best midfield depth in the competition.
I am not saying he wouldn't fit in at West Coast, I am saying that we could realistically get along fine without him. This is why the West Coast fans wouldn't offer a 1st round pick for him and why we wouldn't expect the club to offer your club much in return.
Waters would have to be right up there when it comes to potential. Choco Williams rates him very highly as does our club, we wouldn't have taken him so highly in the draft otherwise. We have touched on the fact that he is accountable as is Chick, and if you look at the 2 you could safely assume that Waters is a long term replacement for Chick. Chick is 28 and Waters is 18. Now Stenglein is good, but he is no Daniel Chick and although he is a good defensive midfielder I doubt that he could effectively blanket a player such as Pavlich. In time Waters could.
Having said all this I am sure that I have read somewhere that if a suitable trade can't be done the Stenglein is happy to stay in Adelaide. I am sure the clubs will try to come to an agreement that is amicable, but don't expect West Coast to pay too much.
