Carey beat everybody, when he had to.

Kernahan was Michael Christians' biatch.

Especially at Waverley.

Chrisso had his measure alright.

No-one had Carey's.

Really, care to say why? Kernahan was made Captain is only his second year and broke the record for most games as Captain. Two of the above may be better players but that doesn't make you a better captain.

Fork, the only guys making this claim are you Carlton supporters.

Kernaghan was a very good player, but not the best Captain of your Club(J.Nicholls) nor overall either.

You can go away now.

Sticks wasn't even the best captain at Carlton.....Big Nick wins that by a country kilometer.

People in the inner sanctum at Carlton, say that Sticks was the best captain Carlton ever had - even betetr than Nicholls.

I rate Kernhaan as the best captain of the modern era. From any club. And from an Essendon supporter, that's a big claim. He had immense courage, leadership, was impeccably fair, a role model and played well in big games. He had it all. He was looked up to by all at Carlton. And he was always there - never suspended, rarely injured.

His greatness makes a mockery of the ridiculous comparison between he and Brereton (the other great Centre-half forward of that 80's early 90's era, just before Carey became great) Kernahan was so much better, it is stupid to even comapre the two. It's insulting to compare them.

If my memmory is correct, he holds the record for most games as captain.
Tucky holds the games record, does that make him the greatest player? No
Sticks okay, Whitten and about a dozen others better.

Cheeky to change the words in my post.

I think Carey was certainly a better player, but I still think Kernahan was the better captain. His example, on and off the field was one for everyone at Carlton to admire. Never suspended, hardly ever injured and he had a remarkable consistency.

He is a Champion no doubt about it for Glenelg, South Australia and Carlton, he was my whole reason I started following footy when I was a kid, never forget the 1983 State Of Orgin match at Footy Park when he kicked 10 goals against the Vics ;)

:)

We are from the same ilk !!!

I was a Glenelg supporter as well and watched VERY game from 80-85 .. That 10 goals at footy park was amazing. I remember leaping to my feet in the stands as he took that big grab after naley got the ball out of the centre.

What an individual performance. I seem to remember we still got beaten though ??

Those games at the bay with Mcguiness m Marshall , Symonds , Carey etc were just golden days !!
