the Kangaroos have the smallest supporterbase in the competition. And Hawks fans jumping off given their onfield form this season i'm surprised they even got 20,000 to the game. Probably about 11,000 Hawks fans, and 9,000 Roos fans at the game today.

We have more than 23,000 members, how many do the Storm have? Actually which NRL club has more and how many?

1 crowd figure does not indicate a teams size of support. You are once again comparing apples to oranges.

Hawthorn are doing it very tough, they've had a horror period on and off the field. North have never had a particularly large fanbase, either.

Place the Storm on the bottom of the NRL ladder, sack the coach and have half the players injured, then play them against a mid-table team of modest support and see how many turn out then.

NRL reminds me of the old VFL, very amateur organisation, do not know what they are doing, do not know how to promote the game.

As bad a condition as North is at the moment, they probably look more attractive than any NRL club.

Thugby will one day go out with the last remaining Neanderthal activities. It is only marginally more interesting to watch than lawn bowls or cricket. They should just get rid of the ball and let both sides slug it out.

Storm have around 7000 loyal hardcore fans which go every week, and around 1000 theatre-goers/first timers/ opposition fans etc.

The crowd yesterday at the MCG (20,018) was very dissapointing, but Abaddon, to even suggest that Hawthorn has more fans there is an insult. Out of the 20,000 there, there would have easily been 13K Roos there.

Obsessed again I see.

please learn to live out of your little glass bowl, before commentating on a game that you obviusly know nothing about.

League is not extremly well promoted in Melbourne, any fool can see that. Live in Sydney, Canberra or Brisbane for a while before having a comment about their promotion.

Clubs like the Broncos have a large supporter base, for a single city team leaves the AFL Bulldogs and Hawks for dead. Whilst clubs like the NRL Bulldogs, Panthers, Roosters and Broncos are basically like Collingwood.. rolling in money.

Im not going to go into the pros and cons of AFL verus NRL as have learnt to support both codes as well as each other, butit does come down to the passion of their respective fans. After going to the Telstra Dome last Friday night to watch the Saints, its something that the FANS of the NRL should try and emmulate.

But I do wish that some fans on here would learn a little of each code and appricate the quailties in both, before lampooning the other....

I guess Abaddon forgot the previous week when Carlton played North they managed a similar figure, and couldn't even fill their own ground.

Where were the Carlton fans?

you can't compare crowds at Optus with those at MCG or TD ya knob.
The old suburban grounds don't have the capacity nor the necessary infrastructure (parking, public transport, food, facilities etc.) to draw large attendances. Its not even comparable.

Carlton v Hawthorn at TD 48,000.
Kangaroos v Hawthorn at MCG 20,000.

Anyways, this thread isn't about the Blues. Read the first post fool.

rugby union > rugby league

Unlike the NRL, the ARU has a much better chance of establishing their code effectively in the Victorian market. Junior rugby & grassroots has always been a high in Melbourne. All we need is a Super 12 team and an established domestic comp & bobs your uncle.

ah forlan.

how glad i am that i have a 17 game H&A membership and your team didn't get my money today.

have the four points, they were never ours to take!

i thought that it was a poor crowd for the kangaroos yesterday and there were plenty of re-interested hawthorn fans there yesterday. certainly a lot more noise for the hawks yesterday than for the port game last week.

that said - there were 2 decent pro hawthorn cheers the entire match. for an 80 point win and daniel wells show 20,000 is poor considering at least 5k of those were hawthorn - and most of them would have left before the attendace was posted.

Who bought 5,000 memberships, Mazda? Let's just assume 0 Hawthorn supporters attended yesterday's gam - that still means 3,500 kangaroos members didn't show up.

Or don't exist...

So? They don't have to all show up. Look at last weeks coll bris game. Only 35k showed up and of those 8k-10k were lions, leaving 25k pies. Where were the other 15k of 'the army' we all hear about? As long as the clubs have their paid up members, they don't care how many attend.

Still got money on North for the spoon? :p

Talking about POOR crowds the Broncos in a supposed RL only city got a paltry 23,700 to Suncorp ( cap 54,000) on Sat while the Brisbane Lions had 33.500 (cap 36,000) at the Gabba on the same day.
So much for RL in control eh?
