In my opinion, North has done very well in this period.

Essentially we have upgraded in 4 positions.
Dal Santo, Dumont, Brown and McDonald for
Gysberts, Speight, Mabon and Sierakowski (all depth players, we have brought in players that can make a real difference.

Delaney with Tippett, considering we have lost Delaney to his Saints, we bring in a player in Tippett where we don't loose much at all. We give Cam more of a chance and one of our KPD's goes down we can promote Tippett to play Older Delaneys role.

Richardson (played forward in the vfl this year) didn't make much of a fist at NM. We upgrade Cam for someone who can make a difference in the short term in Nahas. Nahas can put pressure on Thomas, Adams, Harper which is very healthy.

The only thing I think we can be a little miffed about is not loosing Kennedy, but getting in a replacement. We bring in Turner who is a project but will never be a tall backman. The coaches at NM must think with Firrito and McMahon in reserve we can get by in 2014 with a look to securing a first round backman next year. On Turner, I think this is a great pick and to all of you who think we don't need anymore inside mids, I say we do, you always do. think of a blossoming Turner in 2016-17 and where our older players may be at.

Look, you can make what you want with the ins and outs and come up with your own theories, but in the end, I think every player that left the club has been covered and we have created more depth along with more competition.

Anyhow, that is my say, what is yours?

Summed it up pretty well Hiddink. Some picks have been very good imo and others have been a bit bamboozling. I am happy to cop the bamboozling ones though as I think these guys have a genuine chance to make the senior team, I just think they could have done better in maybe 2 picks.

Good period for us. Delaney is really the only loss (of the others only Siera has played 1sts in the last 2 years) and we've got two HUGE ins in McDonald and Dal Santo as well as a bunch of replacement depth.

Dal Santo > Siera
McDonald > Kennedy
Tippett = Delaney
Dumont > Gysberts
Brown > Mabon
Nahas > Richardson
Turner > Speight

Definite win this trade/draft period. NDS and McDonald will come straight in and make us a better side. Added depth with Nahas/Brown/Tippett. Dumont looks a very nice prospect, and we have shown alot of interest in Turner so there must be something there we like and i back them in on that.

Couldnt have been a better period imo, ofcourse L-Mac for a 2nd rounder would of been nice but atleast we got him.

We definitely won't have one of the younger lists in the league next year. Guess we'll have to start winning.
Close to the same amount of under 23's as St. Kilda, Bulldogs and Melbourne.

And less than Sydney, Collingwood and Geelong.
So I guess it doesn't really matter unless you take into consideration the amount of U/23's in and around the first 22 and the relative performance of that 22.

Well done to Bryce and the gang.

Got our secret agent in NDS.

A handy pickup with Recycled Robbie.

Locked in our son of a gun LMac.

The Frenchman Dumont is our Bryce-special bolter.

A personal favorite in Big Bad Boofhead Benny Brown.

Got another brother back man, hoping Cam will be the better of the Dels and Joel the better of the Tipps.

Then finally Tiny Turner as the long-term building project.

And if NDS and LMac are the only ones getting much game time next year, then all the better. It will mean our best 22 is doing the job. But feel very relaxed and comfortable with our backups. All round, a well balanced squad in my book.

So, overall, no question, we won October hands down. And certainly held our own in November. What we gonna do in December? o_O

Pretty much sums up the depth upgrade.

Dal Santo certainly and possibly McDonald would also upgrade the 22 in any round when you consider 2013 games played:

Sierakowski 7
Anthony 5
Hine 14
Harper 3
Greenwood 6
Jacobs 7

There might be some question marks over Brown and Tippett in terms of talent, but at least they have height on their side. This year, we had all of Thompson, Grima, Black, Delaney x 2, Spud (in last games), and Kennedy & Mabon (in VFL) playing as undersized talls. Thommo and Black have it covered through ability and Grima through his reach, but it is nice to see a 199cm KPF/Ruck and 196cm KPD coming onto the list. Particularly in defense, have had heart palpitations when our defenders match up against 222cm giants (ok slight exaggeration). Hansen has helped reduce the height trauma, but happy to see Tippett add to this. The squad has a bit more land of the giants feel to it now with Goldy, Currie, Brown, Petrie, Lachie, Tarrant, Tippett, Daw, and Wallace all 195cm or bigger.

How is Turner > Speight?

How is Turner > Speight?

Because from everything I heard Speight's attitude went to shit and he struggled to even get a game in the VFL seniors (please correct me if this is wrong). Turner is a stick figure but the little guys are often inspired to work harder to get their shot (Boomer and Basti are two examples). I think Turner is a better chance of playing senior footy for North in the next 2-3 years than Speight would have been

I don't see how a kid who played 9 TAC cup games can be considered an upgrade (ie ">") on a bloke who played AFL. Yet.

Oh, pssh. I apologize, I didn't pay attention to the greater then size. Yeah, I liked speight I don't know what was wrong with him . But maybe he lost his time as a developing player and they took the gamble with this kid

Haha I agree mate. I liked Speight but his output faded away. So fair enough his spot has gone to Turner.

I'm only debating that Turner is better than Speight or an upgrade of any sort atm.

Turner may go 2 years on the rookie list and disappear back to the bush without a trace. Or he might play 300 games and 5 flags for the NMFC. But right now Speight is the better player.

See my post above. It was more to do with the attitude of the two than their ability as players. "Making it" at AFL level has a lot more to do with mental strength and work ethic than talent IMO. Hence my rating of Speight has dropped significantly in the last year or two

All fair points. Again I'm commenting on the head to head comparisons.

Dal Santo > Sierakowski is fair. Exposed AFL form from both so you can safely make that guess for next year.

It's Speight ? Turner at this stage. Turner hasn't even opened is locker yet. (not a metaphor)

That's all I was getting at.
