Game Day Suns v Us - 7:40pm - either my time or not

If we want to make finals this is probably a key game we need to win. GC still in the new coach bounce back win stage but also Hardwick would instill a lot of optimism.

Rowell was a clearance machine last week, mother farking 20!!! Interesting to see if we can contain him at all.

Would be good to get the away win monkey off our backs early but the odds will be against us and so they should be.

Win this game and we will be a serious player this year but unfortunately just can’t see it.

Suns at home playing under their conditions with a new hero coach coming off a big win and we are playing our first game, down our main man, really we couldn’t have scripted a worse first up encounter.

Difference being Hardwick can coach, Dew couldn't.
Hardwick is gonna see the difference that extensive Interstate travel makes
+
he won't have his nice'n'cosy 12+ home games at the MCG
+
the AFL might want the Suns to play Finals (it looks good on their Interstate-teams resume), but they will not want them to win a Flag.

I am enjoying the steady improvement in Thilthorpe but he struggles in wet, slippery conditions at the moment. I just rewatched the Round 23 game v Sydney and he had 3 disposals. Tex also finds these conditions tough but usually manages to have some influence. Our fortunes tonight will mostly depend on our midfield and small/medium sized forwards imho.

The key match up in defence will be Lukosius plus their small/medium forwards. For us to win the game has to be an arm wrestle. If the pressure is poor (like Richmond last week) then we will look like the Washington Generals.

I tipped Gold Coast but in the words of Lloyd Christmas…………….
One of Thilthorpe breakout game was against the Saints in the wet on his debut season.

If the rebuild is really over then losing Walker should be no big deal

I suspect it will be though.

It seems pretty clear the club will be having a crack at Petty. I don't think the club are saying the rebuild is 100% complete in that area.

With Tex this season we're sitting alright. With Tex out we may have issues, but I don't think the club would disagree with you there (Petty interest).

Losing a 33 year old player for a match should not be a big deal.
Yep. We should be resting him multiple times per season with only minimal impact

Instead it's an absolute body blow

I don’t think people would be complaining much about losing Tex if RT wasn’t injured. Hell, Tex only kicked two against the Suns in our win last year. It’s not losing Tex itself that hurts, it’s the double blow

That said, I don’t get why people don’t think the rest of our still pretty good forward line (Fog, Rankine, Rash, Pedlar, Keays, even the stand-ins) can’t stand up to the task. They’ll certainly need to, but I reckon they’re capable
