Swans Best 22 2011

Not wishing to slight our defence in the least, but I think a lot of it has to do with the pressure from the midfield. Preventing good ball from going into our defensive 50 makes our defenders jobs a lot easier.

no doubt but still not all gloom and doom

Here's a more worrying stat, we were dead last in the comp last year in forward half turnovers with only 398. Collingwood led the way with 638. Not surprisingly we were also last in the points generated from forward half turnovers.

Well, there's something wrong with our forward line and we've now had our first loss (albeit in wet conditions) so it's time to revisit what our best 22 might be.

First of all this is my opinion of what our best available 22 is, then I'll list the players who would be in the side and who they'd replace.

B: Smith Grundy Mattner

HB: Kennelly Richards O'Keefe

C: Hannebery Jack Bolton

HF: McVeigh Reid Pyke

F: McGlynn White Bevan

Foll: Mumford Kennedy Goodes

Int: Rohan Everitt Shaw Moore

I have Pyke at CHF because his form in reserves has been very good and he's someone that can seriously take a grab. He would add the stability and structure to our forward set-up that we so desperately need.

O'Keefe could swing between HB and the wing, but his marking ability would be good for us down back at the minute.

Now, when Malceski and LRT return I would have it something like this:

B: Smith Grundy Mattner

HB: Kennelly LRT Malceski

C: Hannebery Jack Bolton

HF: O'Keefe Reid Pyke

F: McVeigh White Bevan

Foll: Mumford Kennedy Goodes

Int: Rohan Richards Shaw McGlynn

Out: Everitt and Moore

Bolded players are the ones who have been moved.

A guy called Daniel Bradshaw (among others) wouldn't particularly like this 'Best 22'!

I wont be including Daniel in any of my best 22's from now on, as much as I love him.

If we're hanging our hats on his return, we're in for a world of disappointment.

I don't think we are hanging our hats on Braddy's return but he's back in training and that's the first step. The next step is getting him on the park and playing a role this season. Unfortunately none of us really know what's going on with that knee and the scans he had this week but Matty 'physio' Cameron? has him on a training program that suggests he'll play...hence best 22. I do begrudgingly hope he calls it quits at the end of season though, for his own sake at least!

That's because this is pre season no football boredom thread. The best 22 is a thing of flexibility not stagnant, but in the pre season it is.
Yer just looking through everyone's posts, a shame about some who we thought be in the 22, ie, Bevo and Bulldog who struggle to even get on the emergency list
