Swans, Crows not top two: Malthouse

What's it matter?

September will sort out the men from the boys.

Any team proclaiming themselves as "the best" should beat everyone else comfortably no matter where they finish on the ladder.

It suits Collingwood and Hawthon, thats for sure. Anything that keeps the Cats out of the top four is fine by me!!!

It is really only one bonus game (the return match of GC or GWS) that is excessive. And of course looking at exposed form, whatever the alternate match-up might have been, they would still have a better than even chance to take home the 4 points.

Its way more than that. They only play one return game against anybody from the top ten last season.

hawks have played port twice, melb bris and gws
crows have played port twice and gws twice and gold coast once and are yet to play brisbane and melbourne so that makes both team of having secured the 5 easy wins.. both have played geelong twice with the crows winning 1 and the hawks losing both...crows have beaten the current top team on the ladder yet hawks have not...so to say that we don't deserve to be sitting in the top is laughable as both hawks and the crows have had fairly similar draws to date...

Indeed I am. You play fewer games against top four teams and therefore wont be tested on that.

I am also assuming that just about any half decent team that would play six games against the three worst sides would win all of them.
You would also assume that any half decent side would comfortably account for Carlton... Oh wait...

All 4 top 4 teams deserve to be in the top 4. Its just that the certain advantage of a home final might not be totally fair, given how the draw is. But **** a marginal difference - no more no less.

given the finals system was designed for finals at neutral grounds (unless you are melbourne FC) and the H&A can be compromised in expansion times, there should be a curcuit breaker. the best I can come up with is make the finals the top 6, but the first weeks final played over two weeks are played in 2 legs, H&A - not traditional for AFL but it would be the fairest way

You failed to mention how the Hawks flogged the Crows by near 10 goals.

Pretty much, not as big of a deal as everyone makes it out to be. Trying to hypothetically diminish Adelaide's and Sydney's success by a Victorian "journalist" to hypothetically increase Victorian teams stocks shows they are worried. They are in denial.

Please tell me how you can assume we would lose against anyone else we would have played other than GWS or GC when the only teams we have not beaten this year out of 17 teams are the Pies, Hawks and North?

Having the flu right through the team against North didn't help either..

Forget game styles and other changes, the biggest improvement in Adelaide that no one sees is the competitiveness and spirit.. and the ability/desire to fight.. Worlds apart from the last couple of years and it is one of the most vital elements of all..

I think Malthouse is right. It's not going to matter in a few weeks time when Sydney and especially Adelaide are shown up in the final for the teams they are.

Let's not forget we also won the NAB cup. Although NAB cup generally that doesn't mean much when you factor in another 5 wins at the start of the season it adds at least partially to the legitimacy of our ladder position. Top 4 is pretty even for mine, some teams have the wood over the others (Adelaide & Collingwood>Sydney, Collingwood > Adelaide etc..).

Well I reckon everyone has forgotten who won the NAB cup! Adelaide aren't a bad side, but there's no way you can be bringing up NAB cup form at this time of the year to justify a side's position on the ladder!

Alot has changed since round 3...
They were a top six side last year. Are you Nostradamus that youd predict their injuries and form slide?
And yet you still got flogged by them twice...
Also teams dont remain the same every year you do realise that?

Game style - Adelaide
Coach - Adelaide
Defence - Adelaide
Midfield - Adelaide
Ruck - Adelaide
Forward Line - Hawthorn (Adelaides is still very strong)

5/6 therefore Adelaide... :thumbsu:

Also Adelaide didnt get belted by Sydney or Richmond....

I don't know about all that.

Game style- clearly Hawthorn. Best field kicking side in the comp. Can cut you to bits. Adelaide's game style is a replica of Collingwood's and I don't think we have the best game style unfortunately- despite probably having the best personnel.

Coach- Love Sando over Clarko but cannot agree. One is a premiership coach the other is a rookie coach.

Defence- 50/50 split.

Midfield- 50/50 again. Dangerfield, Thompson and Sloane v Hodge, Lewis and Mitchell.

Ruck- definitely Adelaide.

Forwards- Hawks. Buddy, Roughy, Rioli all superstars and freaks. Breust is coming along quite well too and add Gunston it is arguably the best mix in the comp. Tippett and Walker quality too but not as deep as Hawks.

You play just ONE return game against any of the best ten sides from 2011. Spin it any way you like. Thems the plain facts.

how do you know we wouldn't have beaten Collingwood in the return trip ? or North ? or Essendon? or Sydney at home? or even Hawthorn here?

I find it astounding that the 4 losses incurred in the season by the Crows mean more than the 15 wins.

or am I talking on a football forum where "common knowledge" equates to more than anything factual?

Just mentioning we have won the most games this year... I know it doesn't mean much but it's something. To place us outside of the top 4 is laughable.
