Thats perpetuating the misnomer that the SCG is materially different in term of dimensions to the MCG, where you have rightly pointed out that the Pies rarely leave to play.So McRae basically admitted him and & coaching staff didn't adapt or even plan to adapt their game for the SCG. Oops.
It's a well known fact that interstate teams get 'lost' in the wings of the SCG if they're not prepared, I remember Cam Mooney talking about it ages ago. The Swans know it and push teams wide and it usually works rather well for us if we execute it correctly.
The Magpies wanted to play down the middle, the Swans pushed them wide and kept them there pretty much all day. Magpies were unable to adapt because they play so much at home they're not accustomed to it. Idiots.
This game was the very definition of no Plan B.
If measuring total difference based on Length and Width.
MCG: L 160m, W 141m
Gabba: L -4m W-3m = Difference: 8m
SCG: L -5m W-5m -= Difference: 10m
Docklands: L 0m W -12m = Difference 12m
Optus: L +5m W-11m = Difference: 16m
AO: L+7m W-18m = Difference 25m
KP: L +15m W-26m = Difference 41m
The SCG has been these dimensions since 2014. Its a myth from Vic biased media and coaches looking for excuses that fails to acknowledge it's perhaps the crowd and the energy our players take from it and other factors that give us a home ground advantage.
Crows, Power and Cats (Mooney reference) can talk about getting lost on the wings, but no one else. And even then, they're more likely to be lost at the MCG than the SCG.
