Might be interesting if Edwards and Snell come up good enough! McCartin sharper than one of the bigger forwards? Worth a look.

I'm much happier about McCartin returning forward than Blakey! Melican's health is a boon in this regard and does create an opportunity for at least one of Snell or Edwards. Unless... they swing either Amartey or McLean back, which I know some posters have called for but which I am less convinced about. McLean is probably a bit lacking in speed and agility and I think Amartey just offers more as a forward, although could potentially become a defender. Or even could they send Logan back? I think he could work out best (probably because he is the most talented player) although I'm sorry to think we would shift him back long term - but short-medium term I don't mind it. He's been lacking a bit of confidence and maybe a different role to play will help him develop and build confidence (and hopefully not have the opposite effect).

Anyway, there are a number of new media clips posted on the club's website:

A few comments:

* I quite liked Cox's address to the players, even if some of it was a bit vague/generic - maybe it has more meaning in context. For example, he said he was open, approachable and people could come and "say anything" and he would be "non-judgmental". Is this just fluff that any coach would say or do we read it as a tacit indictment of the pre-existing situation where players may have felt afraid of being judged? I took it more as the former but maybe it isn't.

* The thing that Cox said that most stood out was when he said "the coaches, all support staff: they'll have more responsibility". The use of the word "more" is comparative and does explicitly suggest a change from how it was previously. I can imagine someone as senior and experienced as Horse taking on more responsibility but I like the idea of more responsibility going back down to the 'line managers' (so to speak - even if some of them may actually be line coaches).

* Near the end of the edited video of Cox's address to players he refers to staff in new positions and refers to "Tom" and "Dean". I'm wondering who Tom and Dean are. I didn't get the vibe they were Harley and himself but they might be.

The thought of any of Amartey, McLean or McDonald in defence gives me the heebeejeebees. Not for lack of effort but each lacks key skills.
McCartin wasn't a great forward but would be better than he used to be, definitely more agile than either Amartey or McLean, but not a major improvement. I'd love to see a situation where Melican and Edwards could lock down the main keys and McCartin intercept. Then Blakey could play loose and Snell take the third tall. 😘
I still think we can get more out of the 4 (including Buller) than we have with better structure and delivery, though they'll never be stars. That's OK.
I think the big thing with Cox is that he has been doing the things that needed doing.
Getting amongst the newbies.
Getting the GF players to confront it and start to move on.
"Introducing" himself as the head coach and what does that mean.
All good leadership done at the right time. Doesn't matter if it's not perfect. His body language is great.
Game plan and positional stuff can come later. The hardness will be consistent messaging.
All public.
A good start IMO.

Obviously Towers back at the club!

I see Fox Footy embarrassing themselves with their best starting team for R0

After being bagged out all year for the 3 tall forwards, they named all of Logan, Joel and McLean in the starting 18, and then Bowman over Dattoli as an emergency!

I saw it and didn't open it , worst journo's anywhere
