Don't get why Armstrong is given such a free pass. Morton last year was made to work his ass off with defensive acts to get a game - and he's a forward, surely a defender would/should be learning how to defend and where to position himself.

Still hope he can go back and work on a few things like Everitt did and come back a much improved player in 2014 (he's not going to turn it round over-night lets be honest...too much to work on), but playing him now is hurting the side and it wouldn't be doing him or his confidence any favours either.
Surely Cunningham or Brown couldn't do much worse and for all their potential mistakes, more valuable lessons are probably going to be learned that will allow them to improve quickly - like Rampe did/has when he was given the opportunity. Cunningham might also provide that blistering offensive run that we've been wanting from Armstrong.

I really can't see us dishing out the same level of intensity next Friday.
Just curious as to why you say this? The players regularly come out and say that the level of effort wasn't good enough and it won't happen again.

Jude Bolton said:
“Obviously in the analysis we had to be pretty brutal on ourselves because it was an ordinary performance last week against Hawthorn and they really comprehensively beat us,” Bolton said.

“As a player, you don’t like seeing bits of footage where you could work a bit harder and there were times that we were pretty soft.

“There were some efforts that were un-Swans-like in a sense and we just want to make sure we really dig in this weekend.”
Expect to see similar quotes this week from a couple of players.

True but firstly, what do you expect them to say and secondly, that's why I don't bother reading quotes from athletes. They are meaningless.

Macca just said it straight when interviewed in the rooms after the game "in the 3rd quarter they came at us and we did nothing"

I agree with you, but I was responding to a post saying that the level of effort will be better next week - seemingly because the players said so.

Yeah, quotes schmotes. I don't readily go looking at player statements post-loss to get a picture of where we are at. I don't avoid them, but I've learned, like most here to take anything said with a large spoon of salt.

I base my statement on our form before the bye.

Our intensity was smack on, then we've had the bye which has upset our flow. I expect our intensity to lift back to how it was, or approaching the standard set before the bye. This game should have done enough to remind players of what is required on game day. Though I'd prefer these realisations to come about pre game, it clearly doesn't always happen that way!

The person you quoted said nothing about getting that feeling from anything one of our players said.
Hence why I asked why they thought the team's intensity would improve. He/she has responded to that point above

Robbie Gray was much better yesterday. He still seems a touch hesitant with his kicking but he's a match winner and played well when it mattered. Someone on our board the other day quoted Jacob Surjan as saying the club didn't expect Robbie to play anywhere near his best and that this year was still largely about recovery and building confidence.

Good luck against Carlton next week. Do us a favour and give them a flogging :thumbsu:

Im not huge on judging players with supercoach scores, but Gray scored 102 points in the second half alone, in fact you had 8 players score over 60 in the second half..

Dont agree about McGlynn. In the third Missed tackles and was 2nd to the ball kicked to space and seemingly lacking intensity in the third. Was pushed up the ground in the last and still failed to impact. He had a poor game yesterday.
interesting that he was the only player on the ground with 100% eff

After watching parts of the replay.....Still can't believe they let that one slip tbh. More disbelief than anything else, because although Port well and truly deserved the victory they didn't play well at all themselves, that's just how bad Sydney were. One decent quarter or burst (similar to some of the patchy efforts earlier in the year) would've done enough to win the game but there wasn't even one of those. Mystifying performance really, didn't come to play at all - bar a handful.

The other top sides just don't drop those 'pencil it in' games. The swans unfortunately always seem to lose a couple they should win, which could be very costly in a tight season like this one. Richmond, Collingwood, Geelong and Hawks on the way home....they'll need to win at least 3 of them to make top 4 now and not drop another silly game. Defeating Carlton is an absolute must, this game and the one against West Coast were the ones where you thought the swans might be able to drop one and get away with it, not now though.

Obviously Sydney at their best can overcome this and get into a top 4 position...but they've just blown 'lifeline' loss very early in the run home. Very little margin for error now unless some of the other top sides start dropping their own 'gimme' games....but obviously they can't count on it.

Must win game this week no 2 ways about it we drop it and I don't think we can make top 4 simple as that I think , there saying Goodes will miss and Horse said in the presser that Reid and Jets will probly not come in this week so its gonna hard to knock of the Blues with that team yesterday and no Goodes

Now some perspective, Lions just rolled Geelong after being 8goals down, just shows if you are off your game anyone can roll you, enough of this negative crap, we are still in this season and still in it big, off day that's it!!
This carping, bagging players is not our way...
Heads up, Bloods to he man bitch slap the Blues and we are on our way again....
GO BLOODS!!!!

Sides like Geelong? Who thinks the Cats are done for the year after their result? NO need for panic, like the Cats, we will bounce back.

baja ruck stats this week will be interesting, just on my gut feeling, I thought Lobbe had the better of Pyke.

Swans Team: 51 (18% to adv) Port Team: 46 (15% to adv)

Pyke: 42 (17% to adv) White: 7 (14% to adv)

Lobbe: 37 (19% to adv) Westhoff: 4 (0% to adv)

................................................................................................................................................

Lobbe: 9 disposals 33%eff that included 2 marks both contested. 11 tackles 1 score involvement

Westhoff: 21 disposals 67%eff that included 4 marks, 2 that were contested. 1 goal, 1 behind, 4 tackles 7 score involvements.

Pyke, 8 disposals 38% eff, 0 marks, 5 tackles, 0 goals, 0 behinds, 3 score involvements
White 5 disposals 20% eff, 0 marks all uncontested, 1 tackle, 0 goals, 0 behinds, 0 score involvements.

Can I just mention that I had a champ data guy demonstrate the criteria to taps to advantage to me last week that those on the receiving end also make this stat happen. If the midfield are stagnant taps to advantage are not going to happen.
