Defence still needs some run and game changers imo

That’s what separates us from the tigers , crows atm
I really think our backline should be

Rampe aliir smith

Mills melican lloyd

(Smith has fougbt back a but this year) but its a young defence and it can run. Yes it will cost us a few goals in mistakes but right now macca and grundy are costing a few with being old. Just back the new defence in and give them time to grow together

+ the young guns - Heeney, Mills, Hayward, Florent, Melican, Papley and Hewett carried the day
- the mid field and older players: Jack, McVeigh and Grundy including Hannebery (aged 27!) did not play at their

The players who seem to have the most criticism on the board - Rohan, Sinclair and Towers (especially the last 2) contributed to our win.

Kudos to Steve Johnson who had Hewett shutdown Whitfield and likely contributed to GWS not having a lot of easy goals?
Cox for Sinclair's improved performance

AA got slaughtered on the lead when he last played for us down back. Just not able to anticipate and manage. He's also simply not strong enough to take on the biggest forwards body on body either.
He might find his way into the team at some point this year, but I don't think it'd be at Grundy's expense. Right now AA'd probably be cover for Rampe/Mills' spot, though I'd love to see how he did taking Reid's switching spot tbh. Did he play well on the weekend?

Grundy made a few blues yesterday, (the handball !???) - But still close to our most needed player.
We'll need to trade for cover next year I reckon. Keiran Collins at the Dogs?

The biggest positive out of the first three rounds combined (apart from going 2-1) is that we seem to have become much less reliant on high tackle numbers. Considering the way the game is adjudicated these days this is very beneficial. It'll also help us later on in the season.

Yep the game has become more about pressuring the ball carrier into a mistake by putting the player under close pressure and closing out their release options to try and create a miskick/handball.

This is one thing that i never get about sinclair. No hes not a superstar, no hes not super talented and its unfair to expect those kind of performences from him but what you do get is intensity and effort. Not once have i ever heard anyone on here say sinclair has had a lazy game, same cant be said about buddy, parker, hanners , rampe, rohan , papley etc.

He will win some weeks, he will lose some weeks but he will fight to the death and thats all you can ask of someone of his capabilities. I for one are very happy with the way he has started the year

Morris for the Tigers gave 100% effort with his limited ability. They were probably not going to win a premiership with him.

Sinclair has had one good game out of three and where was the effort in the first two games? He could have played with far more effort in those games in my opinion but last night was good and that if he can consistently get to that standard then he will be great value to the Swans. He should be no different to Rohan in the demand for consistency.

Just watched the first half replay. Mills must have one hell of a second half to get bog. As I said last night was woeful in the first half.

I love Macca but that couple of minutes really showed his age and lack of leg speed

Against a smaller forward line on an open deck I think he will be a liability

Don’t think horse will show him the ROK route though
He had a very mixed night but in fairness to him, that kick from Lloyd was just a little too wayward. No excuses for other **** ups though!

McVeigh is cooked. No self-respecting coach would ever give McVeigh another chance after his diabolical start to the season. Physically incapable of applying pressure, moving his body beyond being a stationary target, and his skills are way off. Go to the NEAFL and be a true leader to the kids on our list. If he’s the inspiring leader we believe him to be he’d put his hand up and send himself to the reserves a la Goodes.

Grundy and Rampe... I just don’t know what to say. Been up there in our worst in all three games thus far. The likes of Nick Smith have totally saved their bacon.

Our midfield just doesn’t fire the way it used to. Feels like every game this year there’s been a few superstars just dominating with huge numbers. Not too long ago that was us, with any one of Kennedy, Hanners or Parker. That sort of performance from them doesn’t look likely at the moment (Hanners is forgiven as his pre-season was restricted.) Heeney was just about the closest to a herculean midfield performance, and even his was far from it.

I am just so bloody pumped about the futures of Hayward and Florent. What outstanding confidence they both have to do as they did tonight in such a close, competitive match. Florent’s numbers were lower this game, but I actually thought he was better in this match than his 20-possession game against Port. He’s just doing all the little things right, becoming more aware and learning what he is and isn’t capable of. Plus his pressure acts were elite tonight. We should be getting as many games into these two as possible (who am I kidding, Horse would drop O Flo a hundred times before Grandpa.)

Buddy’s game was over-rated. There I said it. So was Mills’ (though I’m baffled by the Mills criticism on here, like we’re somehow shocked that a 20 yr old can still produce average games.)

Towers is growing on me. Cunningham is growing on me. Heeney was BOG (for us) by a miiiile. Great effort by Georgie but we need him getting the ball more as I rate his skills. Sir Lloyd is a top 50 player in the comp and I’d probably turn gay for him.

That is all.
NFI!

I’m surprised at some of the negative comments in this thread. I actually thought we played quite well. Granted the skills weren’t always pristine but the change of gameplan was very refreshing.

Hopefully it wasn’t just a one off and we can play this style from here on out.

GWS wearing their clash strip was the right call aswell (although maybe they also do at the SCG?), hopefully we do the same as the away team. It was much better visually and surely for the players too. Always have thought it was silly that they've had their orange strip and we've had our red strip on at the same time.
