A Little Leverage 4 Jezza said:but North Ballarat played 3 games in Melbourne for the year and most of their away games were at a neutral ground. So when a team has to play a couple of finals in a row in Melbourne it must be very difficult.I don't really think that the travelling is a factor for the country teams, they are used to travelling every week. I know some of the Gippsland kids and North Ballarat kids can have up to and sometimes more than, 2 hours travelling just to get to a home game and training, yet only 1 1/2 hours to get to a Melbourne game.

Whether they've used close "run with roles" or "tags" may be debatable but the aim of this competition is development and showcasing players as much as it is winning and I thought that coaches and clubs were instructed that shadowing opponents out of the game is not permitted.

Bengal Tiger said:The TAC finals, especially the Grand Final, is the showcase that the recruiters look really seriously at.
If you have a look at the TAC Premiership sides since the competition started, a large percentage, compared to other clubs that year, get drafted from that winning side, in either that year or the year after for the younger guys.
Sezzac1 said:Could that simply be 'cause and effect'. The better teams have the better kids and as a result have a good chance to win the flag.

I agree with you there, last time they played, Oakleigh only just won really in the last quarter and both Ryan and Hansen were not playing. I'm sure the coaches will be better prepared this time around.foj1 said:Cant see Oakleigh getting away with their 'tactics' against Gippsland. I think the Power will smash them.

EBERT THE KING said:The crowd erupted when D Currie flew and from where i was everyone seemed to yell "DONKEYYYYYYYYY".

Chandra said:Ben Ross seems an exciting player who I imagine might light up the big stage. McAffer if he kicks a bag.
foj1 said:Trent Cotchin and Adamm Maric will enjoy the spotlight as VERY promising 16 year olds. The Cannons have an enigmatic player called Matthew O'Dwyer who is capable of the unbelievable. I hope Gippsland start Hansen forward as I cant see anyone at Oakleigh holding him.
Oakleigh are very good, but they also have a lot of talls. When Gippsland played them in the season, Hansen was out with injury and Ryan was out suspended. The powers back line was what let them down against Oakleigh as their taller back line players were out. With both Ryan and Hansen back in the mix and hopefully the back line, it won''t be so easy for Oakleigh to get on top of them, unless of course they use taggers which is not supposed to happen.JamesN said:Just remember know one has rated Oakleigh during these finals series, they knocked off Sandy, and Geelong by big margins. and to say that one player like Hansen will put them away is just silly. dont always be so sure, Oakleigh's a good side, just that no1 pays them any respect. dont be so sure foj1
You're right, I forgot about the smaller kids, one with blonde hair in particular that I remember doing a lot. Although I must admit JJ, I'm only seeing it from a spectators point of view and not "someone who knows" which I think is pretty obvious. I'm looking forward to this weekend as well. I'm fairly confident that the Power, when playing to their game plan, can win this and go onto the big one.Jimmyjess said:Well put Saintly Newby, however, it's not their talls that pose the real threat to the Power. Otten and Kelly were the key players when they beat the Power a few weeks ago. Kelly was far too strong in the one on one marking contests for his opponent and kicked 5 whilst Otten ran rampant across the half forward line and kicked 4. I'm sure that Hansen would have picked up Otten and Ryan on Kelly which may have made the final result much closer.
The plus from an Oakleigh perspective was that they had 12 more scoring shots than the Power and could have easily won by 6-7 goals.
I watched the second half of the Oakleigh game against Geelong and it is their mid sized running players that pose a real threat as they are also proven goal kickers. Kelly and Gray can cause real damage paricularly if players like Batsanis get first use out of the middle.
Not sure where Hansen will play this week. Played out of square with Macaffer against North Ballarat and was pretty much ignored. Proved to be the difference between the two teams when released onto the ball and picked up about 18 possessions in the last quarter and a half. They may play him in the middle so as to get him involved early and then move him back or forward depending on how the game is going.
I'm looking forward to a tough contest and hope that the weather doesn't affect the quality of the contest.
