I was wondering if any1 saw the geelong vs Chargers Final?
How did Leigh Thompson go?
:thumbsu:
Think he was playing centre half forward, wasn't listed in the Finals footy record and seems to have sprung up from no where. Did OK without starring but he's young, has had a taste of TAC Cup now and gets to come back next year.

Re: Tac - Finals Series

Chargers ruckman Todd Goldstein (gun basketballer) has had a super month and has been invited to state screening. wouldn't be surprised if he gets drafted.

Re: Tac - Finals Series

yeh toddy is an outstanding player, he just has that extra better touch than the other rucks in the TAC, he knows how to get his hands on it and use it to advantage. hope he gets picked up, adelaide need a new ruckman :p

i would. if he was to be drafted it would be a huge gamble for the club that goes for him. some clubs may consider rookie drafting him, but i would be very surprised if he were to be picked up in the national draft. he's a good player, but he isn't great. was surprised to see him named among the best on saturday.

Chargers WILL WIN the 2006 TAC Cup.

Re: Tac - Finals Series

who would have thought, from the start of the year, the chargers would be playing that last game in september!. Last yr showed the chargers werent that good, but to come from no where this year is such an outstanding effort. i believe they have a good coaching group down there and that has helped alot.

My tip is Calder, but it should be a good match up. I'm expecting Oakleigh to continue tagging key opposition midfielders so hopefully the Cannons prepare those blokes for that. It's sneaky and I'm surprised FV haven't warned them about it.
I'm with you footyman, I think Calder have more experience and depth than Oakleigh. They only just scraped into the GF by the seat of their pants on Saturday. I'm pretty sure Calder are a far better team.

Yeah from the game on the weekend i noticed Ross from Gippsland Power was very heavily tagged by an oakleigh opponent number 11. He was with him at eevry single contest possible and Ross was getting some pretty rough treatment around stoppages. Which is a shame because he can turn it on as he showed in glimpses.. That is the only real tag i witnessed from the game.

Re: Tac - Finals Series

ben brennan will be unstoppable this wknd. his height and agility will be too much too handle for the chargers. very unlucky on missing out on selection for draft camp, however will make a strong point to the 13 other clubs who didnt rate his mobility. the man to watch this wknd and will play a pivotal role. this kid is a superstar. watch foxtel this wknd n youll see what i mean. fanatic out

Re: Tac - Finals Series

what are the chances of this happening, a person for which ever team.. plays good, best on ground for example, barely noticed all year or wasnt invited to camp etc.. getting drafted just bcoz of his great performance in the granny.

the grand final is the biggest stage so they definatly wont go unnoticed, but if they haven't really performed for most of the year then they wont get drafted. AFL scouts look for consistant players. That's my opinion anyway.

he hasn't even played 10 games of TAC Cup, & therefore i don't think too many clubs will be willing to gamble on him. he will need good results at the screening if he is to be a chance. i got nothing against him, & he looks a decent player, but i just don't think he has given himself enough opportunity to be considered. perhaps he will go a rookie with good screening results.

Cheers Backo. I see his basketball stats are quite impressive though

Probably won't bother against Calder. There is no way you can tag genuine stoppage guys like Horne, Caruso, Williams and Gazzo. Long, McErlain, McGough and Farmer probably aren't quite damaging enough to warrant a tag. They might back their guys head to head against them.

They seem to switch between the small forward line of Kelly and Gray, and the tall forwards Ainger and Goldstein. If Calder play Considine as the only forward alongside Allen, then Ainger could go forward. Also Goldstein won't be needed as much in the ruck against Duydnam. Don't know if Neratzoglou is fit but he could ruck reasonably against Calder. James McWhinney is another who seems to have vanished, he could play CHF.

While FV is warning Oakleigh about tagging maybe they could warn Calder about their decade old strategy of not playing any big blokes. Arrowsmith at CHF, Smith at FB, Duydnum in the ruck??? Rob Hyde learnt a long time ago that you don't win junior matches with giraffes ... you play 4 rovers instead ;)
Dean Putt has been injured mate otherwise he would have played. You might be surprised by the predicted heights of Arrowsmith, Smith and Considine. Horne, Williams, Farmer, McErlain going to screening, Gazzo may pick up late invite, Caruso dual morrish medalist. Do you not play them? Calder have produced a lot of drafted talent so A bit tough to question methods sport. But your right about Calder not having a lot of real talls though next year will be a LOT different.

I agree Fanatic Brennan is a very underated player in the TAC cup this year. he has had many big jobs this year. Brennan is one of those players that will do his job week in and week out. and at times adds a little bit of flare to it. a solid footballer. expect him to be picked up second round.

Am not questioning them. It is that age old development v winning debate. Putting lanky plodders in the team hurts your chances of winning matches. Most teams would be better off with a 185cm fullback. Very few big blokes who are playing good football at 18. Instead of developing a 191cm fringe player who isn't playing well now but might benefit from the experience, use a small.

Not being critical, just acknowleging that it is something that Calder have done over the years. Nothing particuarly wrong with that, but I don't think Oakleigh's use of taggers is any different. Neither is entirely keeping with the ethos of the comp.

You know your stuff fanatic and TKCP i agree with your points on brennan. Bit dissapointing to see him get bench time in both finals but perhaps with faulks injured then big brennan can go down back and be a tower of strength. There hasnt been much chat about this man but i tell you he has the ability to read the play and can take a great grab. he reads the flight of the ball so well and is rarely beaten in the air. Hopefully he plays a blinder he really deserves it. He has never won a flag, this is his weekend go ben brennan and go cannons.

Re: TAC Cup Grand Final - Calder Cannons v Oakleigh Chargers

Expect Oakleigh to go small up forward with Dean Kelly and Robbie Gray operating from the goalsquare. Goldstein has been named full forward but I don't think he'll start there. Kelly to get the best-on-ground medal for mine.
