Does Port have a "mentally fragile" forward? If they do, put Hunter on him and watch Hunter dominate as the Port player gets benched for undisiplined play because Hunter got under his skin so much.

Hunter is finally back in form and is set for another huge September :thumbsu:

I think the smokey for us is going to be Mark Lecras against Port. They have no one who can match him for speed and marking abililty. The likes of Wilson, Surjan will get killed by him in the marking contests. Its a matchup we can exploit

Wilson could take him imo, if it gets too much, Pettigrew perhaps. Grew has 10cm on him, and has the speed to match LeCras

Wilson cant match him in the air I dont think, If Pettigrew moved on him then who would take Staker. For mine The Grew on The Stakes is the most obvious matchup in AFL history

how handy would Kerr be right about now:eek:

Very.

Wirrapunda has to start on Motlop and Woosha tell Wirra to go toe toe with him when they have the ball , Wirra has the skill , pace & cool head to hurt Motlop.

But not the accountability.

Is it right to say judd wont be 100% ?????

Yes.

In other words I think we can guarantee that Judd wont be 100% till 6 rounds into next season.

Worth letting him go then?

He wont start pre season probably till January at the earliest . He will still be doing fitness work by the time the season starts. He will take 6 weeks to get back into the swing of things for sure.

I reckon in some ways it might be better we are playing at AAMI. The last few away games the boys have really lifted. Our home games haven't been the easy ones of late. Perhaps playing at AAMI will lift the pressure off us a bit as we wont be favourites. Either way should be a cracker of a game.

Woosha needs to be smart in his use of Wirrpanda. Don't force him to play the accountable defender, play him as a loose man in defence. Use Selwood and Waters as the tough accountable guys. Nicoski could be the key in defence. I'd actually like to see Hurn and Nicoski rotate of half back and half forward. If they can kick a goal or two each while providing run off the half-back line, we'll be right I think.

Woosha also needs to make changes quicker. Keeping Jones on Lucas for so long almost cost as the Essendon game.

need the big Q to kick a bag to give us a real shot one feels

Im confident he will have a huge influence this weekend.

Will be wanting to make amends after a blistering start yesterday but fading badly.

Hail the Qolossus.

Port dont have any real enforces.

They are prone to physical harrasment.

Choco has them playing as they played 3 years ago. They fell down in finals due to the in close nature.

Lock em down or pray for rain.

F**k yeh! Sydney is thumping the Hawks, which means we'll be playing Friday night. I like our chances much better now, Friday night footy has been kind to us over the last few years. I think the only game we've dropped was the Essendon game this year.

There's ya tactics right their fellas :thumbsu: ;)

My thoughts are this...you wont stop Cornes boys or Burgoynes

who you do stop is thier second tier players...

westoff....hit him hard even if t means a free kick...I would like to see him cruched early

need to tag Rodan...yes rodan killed us last time....Glass on Ebert...eebert plays like brad Johnson..glass destroyed Brad Johnson

start Seaby fwd....Judd must play...embley at FF...lynch at CHF.......

I agree...Judd in the forward line. He is the smartest bloke going around. Even if he doesnt get the pill, he still marshalls the troops and leads out to make space for the Qstick to lead in to... :thumbsu:

I still think Staker should go with Cornes first up. I just keep thinking to Round 1 where he absolutely destroyed Goodes. He has the height to go with him in the marking contests and the pace to follow him around the ground.

I don't know about everyone else but I am getting pretty ****ing pumped up for this one. Friday night footy, backs against the wall, bring it on.

Simple. Don't let them run the ball straight down the guts with absolutely no pressure applied.

If that is simple, why have we struggled with the concept for 22 weeks?

Pressure and accountability is the only way we will beat Port Adelaide. They will be all over our players when we have the ball, and will run it into their forward line as soon as they get it. Our stock standard 'if we don't get the ball out of the centre, ah bugger it the defence will cope and it will come back into the centre in a minute or two' gameplan will not cut it against Port.

If we sweat on them every time they get near the ball, and not give them any time and space, we are every chance to get over the top of them.

We won't stop the Cornes' getting 25+ touches each, there is no point trying. They are influential players (as are a few more), and they key to limiting their influence is to make those possessions cheap touches in the defensive 50. Allowing them to roam free opponent-less is not on.

PRESSURE

Dont let them have their run. A few hard hits will put them off their game. I rememeber Essendon against T.D did it to us. We need Beau, chick, and hunter to lay solid tackles in the back line.

WIrra needs to do his running of the back line.

Lynch needs to be left one out with his player, and lecreas around them. We need Cones, or Staker to run forward play like hansen spread them out.

Seaby needs to be deep forward, or around centre half line.

Glass on Westhoff. Hunter on Treadrea,

CAN CHICK PLAY ON CORNES. I think he can.

Cousins, Braun, and Priddis need to run hard with the ball.

IM SAYING IT NOW WE CAN WIN, AND WE SHOULD NOT SETTLE FOR A LOSS. (meaning everyone who can play shouldnt be rested)

Because we're stoopid.

My general feeling is you can learn a lot from your opponents - the last two finals campaigns we've experienced playing up against one of the toughest finals sides seen in the modern era (speaking both tactically and in terms of team discipline).

The Swans may not have been the most dominant side in the competition, but they do know how to play with what they've got in finals. Given that we're probably not going to be able to field a team that has the capability of running Port off their feet, I see the lock-down, grinding contest game as the most effective method against Port. Basically it means locking down space (something easier to do at AAMI than Subi) and applying maximum pressure on the ball carrier. I do see some of the smaller roving players as a threat - they're quick and adept at clearances around ruck contests, so we've got to limit the space they can work in and try and nullify their impact as much as possible. Port love to play in the style of the Eagles 05-06 - win clearances and break hard to open space. Limit that space and you'll force them into error, much like the Swans did against us.

Not having Kerr is obviously a problem, given his suitability to this type of game plan, and the possibility of Priddis being out is a blow given his tacking ability around packs. The others will really have to step up.

I'll be interested to see whether the Eagles persist in the handball crazy antics of the last couple of weeks when going back the other way. I don't know what it is this season, but the fluidity of that approach has really been lacking of late. Not just simply a question of overuse, but a combination of skill errors and predictability that often works to put the ball carriers under even more pressure and cause far too many turnovers. It used to be one of our greatest weapons last year, but it has turned out to be a bit of a crutch at times.

On form I'd have to say that Port look to have the advantage in this, and they don't have the injury concerns the Eagles have. So they should probably start as warm favorites. They're not exactly the unbeatables though, and it'll be interesting to see them really challenged with finals intensity and defensive pressure. Hopefully our boys can deliver and give them something to think about.

It will be interesting if Port can exploit Glass.

He is operating at around 70% I reckon after watching him today...
Port move the ball a lot better than the Bombers and may be able to catch him out.

I don't think he's hurt. He beat Matthew Lloyd pointless all over the ground, same with Gehrig the week before.

The issue isn't accountability. West Coast are recognised as a very accountable opponent. That's why our forward line is crowded when opposition team floods - Woosha doesn't allow the free man.

The bad side of this is our opponents can clear out their forward line by dropping their numbers back. This allows dominant forwards to have their space. At times we're too opponent focussed, as shown yesterday against Essendon when we didn't drop numbers back and the famous QF last year when Hall and O'Loughlin had a paddock to work in.
