Kerry chairman has announced that Kennelly has quit Kerry.

Now it's just a matter of ensuring he comes here.

After the crap that went on the start of the year and him leaving after list lodgment surely he will now do the right thing and comer to Sydney.;

Though if we only offer him 1 year and he's prepared to honestly commit for 2 we should give it 2.

It's entirely possible that a year of playing lesser physical sport may have given his body time to recover.

Having him back may allow us to move Malceski onto a wing or a HFF flank which may suit him better.

why?

i understand your point about him needing time to recover.... but why not then just give him a contact extention later in the season, instead of immediately just giving him a new contract

two things Kennelly has to prove..... a) ability to still play the game..... b) commitment

until then.... we should reserve pulling out a red carpet welcome for the prodigal son

Up to you if you want him Kira. I do and by reports so does Ross Lyon. The Saints are pushing for this flag and clearly their coach rates him highly enough as a player who can help plug the gap.

I think if we want him tp play for us next year were going to need to offer him 2 years as I think the Saints will. It's possible failing to match this offer will see us lose him to the PS draft.

They used to say Wayne Carey was a Kangaroo, through and through.

Life happens, things change.

I've had the feeling for a while, going back to before he went home, that his ego was a bit out of control, and the entire Irish adventure seems to have vindicated that.

If he returns, he'd best be giving the club as strong a guarantee as possible that he's physically/medically right to train and play a full season, otherwise he's jeopardising the development of younger blokes.

The club doesn't exist merely for Kennelly to add another chapter to his book.

i'm hardly in the Kennelly camp atm, but even i'll struggle to see him opting to play for another club because contractual reasons

and if he does choose money and contract length over us.... so much for commitment

Re: Kennelly open to a return

If Tadhg could regain 90% of his best I actually think "on field" he would likely have a greater impact on St Kilda. They desperately need another line breaking runner.

It would be a marketing and morale boost for Sydney but needs to be assessed carefully as to where he fits into the current list? Swans have acquired several similar types eg Mattner Shaw Smith (maybe even O'Dwyer, Barlow?) Grundy LRT CB also need to have a back half spot. Very crowded

Whilst I realise several here "hate" St K:D, it has to be best outcome for player and club, and his decision to return to OZ is likely not solidly grounded on "Swans", but rather career/ future and his "better half" wishes?

Painfully frustrating if the late timing of his decision sees him go for nothing in PSD!

Interesting!

Re: Kennelly open to a return

it makes no sense for him to go to STK at all.

his family stuff and unfinished business, including property is in sydney, not to mention he has been through alot with this club.. including win a premiership.

Highly doubt he will go to STK, it just sounds like their interested, highly doubt Tadhg wud bite.

Re: Kennelly open to a return

When is it Kenelly's final chance to say if he wants to play or not? because its been dragging on for so long now!
Just a simple YES or NO!

Re: Kennelly open to a return

I could be wrong about this but i think November 13. That's when List Lodgement 2 is due. That will confirm how many we can pick up in the draft, so I assume the Swans would want to know by then.

Maybe he believes his value here is greater than what it is. Maybe he thinks if the story gets floated that there's some other interest in him, Sydney will be forced to ups whatever offer might have been put to him. Maybe he wants some kind of bidding war.

Or, maybe he's just genuinely finding it difficult to decide to leave home and family again. It's not always complicated.

He's done it once, it must be easier the second time. And I'm not being facetious. He was desperate to go home to live out the family dream, I can't imagine he's so serious about coming back to Australia if he's going to be breaking his mum's heart again.

My sentiments exactly!

err....unless you know something we don't, Carey and Kennelly had quite different reasons for leaving.

As for his ego, well he deserves to have one. If he can make it to the top in two codes on opposite sides of the world, publish a book, dance a jig (twice) on telly, achieve fame and make some serious cash all before he's 30 then I applaud that. Why do we Australians feel culturally compelled to cut down the tall poppies ? Most of the Irish wannaplays who come to Oz don't make it past the hard graft and the home-sickness.

I would love nothing better than the last chapter of his book to be another GF medal with the Swans but he won't risk coming back if he doesn't think he can contribute at the highest level. He has the most to lose if he fails to make the grade with the Swans and his high-profile career ends on a low note (just ask Plugger)

That said, I hope he comes back. He really was the complete package.
