OT good juniors all need to take time to prove themselves in Senior footy, watching Tim play over the last few years, he was a great junior player and due to Kiewa (up to this year) having a very mediocre team, he was in the "better" players in the ones. he is only 19 or so, so time will tell. i did hear them calling him Doggy when they played Yack. i hope that is not because of his short stint at Wodonga?? hopefully it is referring to his favourite possy with the beautiful Tangam girls???

Heard a rumour yesterday that Murray has accepted a coaching job next year in a different league, Womballa I think the club was. Never heard of them but was an interesting piece of news as he would leave a pretty big hole for the Dogs to fill next year if it was the case. RS or any other Doggies boys can you confirm this? Game yesterday was very conjested as you'd imagine at Thurgoona with the Hawks big forwards causing headaches, Hawks fitness also showed as they ran all over the Dogs in the last quarter. Was thinking if Murray had of slotted his shot from 25m out at the start of the last the Dogs may have had a sniff (would have made it 4 goals). Another couple of noticable players on sidelines was the Hawks Al Whitsted and Dogs older Toon boys. A Kiewa supporter (an older supporter, don't know names) was saying that Whitsted and the coach had had a major falling out and Al was going to move on with work. Also have the Toons had a falling out with Wightman as Thurgoona as suggested or were they just being rested? The can in their hands suggested the former.

Was at the dogs v hawks game on weekend and was scrappy but still not bad footy. Hawks big forwards were too good and think dogs may just be found wanting at Sandy Creek, Hawk v Mitta granny for me, but you never know.

I to also notice the Toon brothers not playing hope nothing serious NOP. The dogs looked as though they have lost a bit of bite. Few efforts were pretty ordinary and they looked to me to be tired. (Big season catching up with them maybe) On the other hand Kiewa were impressive and will take some stopping during the finals series. the other thing i noticed was that key players were being bought off when the game was put beyond doubt. Payne, Wightman, Gunn come to mind is this a way of resting players or are they carrying something. But a suppose no matter how far they go through the finals series it has been great to see the dogs somewhere near the top of the ladder. Good stuff doggie boys.

Yeah, I reckon you're right, Sutherland has had a great year and will take some votes. So will Travis Knight & Flick Drage. Semmler from Barny must be a chance, young Surrey from Beechworth has been in the best just about every week, not sure if he catches the umps eye tho. Wightman & Hunter would be our best chances. Ben Davis won't have many taking votes and a proven vote winner.

on a more positive note, the finals are apporaching (as everybody is well aware) and the big question is....... can somebody challenge Mitta? I must admit that it would be nice to see another club get the choccies in 2007.

WHAT WILL WORK IN FAVOUR
Kiewa-Sandy Creek: Strong playing list with significant depth. Very quick and hard working. When the hawks get on a roll they generally make the most of their momentum:
Mitta: Proven track record of just lifting a notch or 2 in the 2nd half of the season (as the past 3 premierships would suggest). A very even and well balanced outfit.
Thurgoona: Have preformed particuarly well most of the season and have some very skilful players accross the board. Also, after years in the doldrums they will undoubtably be very enthusiastic to make an impression.
Barnawartha: A very strong midfield and forward line. In my opinion, the tigers are a smokey.
Chiltern: I doubt that they can cause too many problems. Their best hope is if Andrews is able to get his hands on the pill and put a few through the big sticks.
Beechworth: They have been very impressive since Halliday returned to he club and will take in plenty of form and confidence if they can make it. Halliday and Allen are both very potent forwards while Surrey has been a consistant midfielder. Will need Rutherglen to beat Chiltern this weekend.

KSC: Cameron is a very good player but Im sure he would love get his leg completely right to maximise his output. Although he is still contributing significantly i wouldnt be surprised if he was wondering just what he would be capable of if he had not had that injury that threatened his season.
Mitta: Arrogance or underrating their opponents. Do appear the have the edge over fellow contender KSC with 2 wins against them but the Hawks may not have put all their cards on the table.
Thurgoona: Just seem to be losing momentum at the wrong time.
Barnawartha: Unless they can sneak a win over Kiewa this weekend (or Wodonga Sainst upsets Thurgoona) it looks like they may have to come from the Elimination final.
Chiltern: Too much reliance on too few

i can tell you now that Ash sutherland will not get any where near the votes you blokes are talking about! it is a known fact that in the TDFL, backmen just dont get the votes. Previous winners Purcell (CHF), Davis (Onball), Corr x2 (onball), Anthony (onball), Mathey (onball), Tytler x2(Ruck), Hedley (Forward), the list goes on and on. i cant remember them all but this is a few of the past 12 years and there aint no backmen in there! dont get me wrong, i am not a disgruntled Backmen, (you cant kick too many goals from there) but if Ash does get a few votes it may mean Rhodes only wins by 5 or 6 not 11 as predicted earlier. Rhodes to finish on 34 votes. smokey for me would be Jason Gentile from DMB.

The toons are definatley staying Ben re-signed last thursday for next year and after meeting with David yesterday he is keen to see out his career at the dogs. and to reply to RHG's post earlier Gunny has broken his collarbone and will not play again this year massive loss considering the amount of finals experience we have. Payne was spelled in the last quarter as he had rucked all day alone and the game was beyond doubt and there is no point wearing the bloke out, and i copped a number of heavy knocks the this over sized head of mine and after the 5th one for the game in the last quarter i also opted to sit out the rest of the game. Just trying to preserve players. This weeks round still interesting though i know i'll be racing home to get the score from the Kiewa v Barny game. If barny are to beat them then they deserve 3rd spot and another crack at Kiewa the week after. If not and we get over the saints i know the club will be looking forward to taking on the might of Mitta at Sandy Creek a ground where they haven't lost in a number of years. Bring it on!!

what a season and only one round to go and it's still not finish...the top 5 that is!!! have kiewa stepped it up in the last two weeks??? the doggies are slipping away from mitta and kiewa..can they handle the pressure of finals? it seems if you can shut down d.murray they don't win.No goals lately to go with no wins. Well i hope barny win this week and upset a few. Chiltern to fill the 5th spot but not cause any headaches.Who's going to win the barton medal well you would think rhodes should shit it in but maybe a few guys might take votes of him....wouldn't be surpised if a player from a lower team goes close...ie' beechworth or rutherglen??? anyway only one more week left of playing on good ovals then of to the paddock at sandy creek..

Great stuff GB, a perfect picture of where the finals stand. I don't know who has their money where, but I'd have to back Mitta again. They are arrogant and I'd love to see someone else get up, but I don't think it will be this year. The best hope for either Kiewa, Thurgoona or Barny is that Mitta win the 2nd semi, go straight through to the grand final and get complacent and their opponents (whoever that is) in the grand final jump them early.

Time will tell, and I'll be there with a beer to watch it all unfold,h oep you guys are too.
