Is it just me or is that a very underwhelming offer from the Cats. Varcoe has hardly set the world on fire the last 2 years. Reckon GWS would be crazy to accept that.

Did all of you conceding defeat to the Cats actually read that article from Edmund and Gullan?

All it said was "with the cats looming large as a team capable of getting a deal done now that they have put grand final hero (and prelim villain) on the trade table". It didn't say that he's chosen them nor that he's leaning towards them just that they can get a deal done based on the fact that Varcoe has currency which is negligible. There was no quote from the Adams party and the quotes from the Cats indicate a move toward experienced recruits due to the sheer number of three to five year players on their list.

That article hasn't changed the landscape in the slightest. The Addy article that the Bomb mentioned may paint a slightly different picture, however the Sun article certainly didn't.

At the end of the day we may or may not land him, but that article added nothing to the story whatsoever except confirming Varcoe could well be on the way out.

So nobody is concerned that we offered him more than Geelong but he still doesn't see us as a better option? We have 2 quality players leaving and no quality players wanting to join, this worries me.

It's perfectly understandable if he goes to the cats and good luck to him, he would get a chance to play alongside blokes he probably grew up idolizing and be close to his family and friends.

Hopefully we can get him but I'm not fussed if we don't, Hine will work his magic in the first round.

Which isn't slow like made out urban myth that keeps getting flung around, isn't blinding pace either but not slow.

Would love to land Him, Freeman and if we can snare another top 14 pick for Shaw use it on Crouch.

TO walk away with Sheed (pure class), Freeman (elite pace and kicking) and Crouch (grunt mid luke ball replacement) would be amazing.

Some players actually aren't all about the money.
He's a Geelong Falcon boy and a Geelong supporter. They finished higher on the ladder.
We were in his final two choices, if we miss out so be it. Certainly isn't alarming though.

We need to build a new reputation that Collingwood is a desirable club, atm the outside looking in (for neutrals/players) looks like Collingwood could go either way.

Geelong was Taylor team prior to AFL of course he would choose to play with the team he idolised as a kid given the opportunity.

Not sure what they are going to give GWS surely Varcoe isn't enough, especially given they are ALSO in the hunt for Heater!

Pick 27 Conlon/Apeness.

No point spending a pick on them early when they will be there at your 2nd rounder.

Also Garlett maybe in the running for a later pick, club definitely rates him as a player but are deciding whether bringing him in is counter productive given the recent moving on of certain players. One of our scouts have said he is a GUN and no doubts on field about his talent.

I agree, but on the flip side he gets to play infront of the biggest crowds at the best ground in the game, week in week out!

agree...the harsh reality is that many of us (including me) really don't know anything. Which is why Oct is the craziest time in the BF calendar

Adams will be a Pie, don't worry.

The only thing holding the deal up at the moment is Heath Shaw, if Heath agrees to got to GWS (who are offering him massive money and a long term contract) then it will be a relatively straight swap.

If not then the deal may be delayed even further but Hine may have to give up one of those coveted first rounders for him.
