Taylor Adams - Tigers No Longer Interested [Adams nominates Cats and Pies - AFL]

A question for those who are following the draft this year. Is Taylor Adams better than anyone who will likely be available at our first pick?

If not, get it done Hartley.

Don't think Adams will be better than someone we get around our pick. One of Kade Kolodjashnij, Nathan Freeman, Luke Dunstan or Dom Sheed will be available at our pick. All of them I rate higher than Adams. Also Adams, from reports, has some attitude problems, so that goes against our clubs philosophy of recruiting solid characters to the club.

I wanted us to recruit Chaplin as a F.A last year before the club was linked to him because I knew what he would bring to our backline and team over all.

This year I've been bangin' on about getting Adams as it would make midfield a hell of a lot better. It would make turn our midfield into one scary unit.

UpTheGuts comment is probably closer, Cotchin is more consistent but is older, played more games, had less injuries, had more preseasons and plays a different role.

I have seen some absolutely brilliant disposals by Conca out of packs, just as I've seen some absolutely horrid kicks from Cotchin, which was more the point I was trying to make.

Yea and the point I was trying to make was that Conca has made some howlers in space and with seemingly little pressure which Cotchin rarely makes .

If we could get Sheed...

Absolutely. Would be the cherry on top of our midfield. Freeman would be another who would instantly complete our midfield. Kolodjashnij would be a great replacement for Newy, and Dunstan is very similar to Dusty. Probably a little quicker, but not as brutishly strong. Marcus Bontempelli is one I would consider if those four are gone. Similar playing style to Brett Deledio but has better inside midfielder skills. Any of them would be better than Adams, who I didn't rate all that highly.

21 disposals 8.2 contested possessions 61.6% DE 4.4 clearances(2.1 centre clearances) 2.3 stoppages 3.4 tackles.

At our club those numbers* would rate him:
=6th for disposals & contested possessions
Between Conca and Cotchin for DE%
2nd for clearances & centre clearances
=4th for stoppages
=5th for tackles.

Now unless someone can tell me that the kid we'd pick at pick 12 or so is going to be putting up these sorts of numbers in their second year I'm more than happy to take the calculated gamble and trade our first pick for Adams and get that instant injection of quality and hardness to our midfield.

Just looking at the names on paper and it's rather formidable and I'd back Cotchin Deledio Martin Jackson Foley Tuck Conca Ellis Vlastuin Grigg & Adams to be at minimum competitive against any other midfield in the comp.

* - understand that in our side his role maybe different to that which he currently plays at GWS, but it just highlights what we'd be getting by going after him.

GWS is the only club where a second year player will get enough minutes on ball to post those numbers though. Vlastuin might be able to post those numbers if he wasn't moved back to defence to accommodate Conca. Not sure stats are telling all the story here.
