Taylor Walker new Adelaide captain

Interesting choice that's for sure, who seems to have come from relatively nowhere in the captaincy stakes. Good luck to him, he's a character on the field, character on social media and primarily an enjoyable player to watch, even if he's a massive knobhead :)

Walsh said the players will vote on the leadership based on getting it done on gameday and commitment to the team, well I'd say Dangerfield and Sloane get it done on gameday...:rolleyes:o_O:confused:

The new coach chose him, right?

Definitely thought Sloane/Danger captain/vice captain was on the cards. Guess they're rewarding Tex for the loyalty he's shown. I'd say Paddy's got one foot out the door now.

Hard to see it any other way. Will probably help him make the decision.

Will be interesting to see if Danger chases location, success or money.

Surely a club like the Dogs, Blues or Saints will throw a crazy package at him?

Could prove to be an inspired choice. Could also backfire with spectacular results. Adelaide is a small town and you do hear Tex is a bit of a lad. Good on him but with all the off-field things captains are expected to do it’s rare that out-spoken “characters” are elected Captain in the modern game. Not saying it’s a bad thing but I don’t think you can have your club captain asking whether “Caroline Wilson is the most frustrating person to look at” on twitter and the like.

Van Berlo, Sloane or Danger would have definitely been the safe choice. Will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

When the dearly beloved Crows Shrine AdelaideNows number 1 headline is Tex the Right Man for the Job? - Vote Now!, you know the decision is stupid.

I note that a lot of the links people are making between the captaincy choice and Danger (and Sloane) imply they're going because they didn't get the captaincy.

If there's an association, I'd have thought it runs the other way; if you're going (or not committing), then you're not getting the captaincy.

I think this post wins this thread hands down.

Walker: Someday you'll thank me for this wincey.
Dangerfield: Not bloody likely.
Walker: No, it's true. When I was a boy, I wanted a catcher's mitt, but my dad wouldn't get it for me. So I held my breath until I passed out and hit my head on the coffee table. The doctor thought I might have brain damage.
Dangerfield: Tex, what's the point of this story?
Walker: I like stories.

Is it the difference, or did you just not want to give it to him for a year?

Must say, I love a heart and soul captain and the new coach strikes me from the outside as more of a leader of men than a grand thinker. There's been a trend recently to give the job to intelligent players, but the role of a captain in AFL footy is more to gee up the troops and set an example considering how much control the coaches have. I just wonder whether Walker is almost too simple to do it, he doesn't strike me as intelligent at all and may struggle externally if the results aren't coming in.

Sloane plays hard and thinks hard, would have picked him personally.
What are your thoughts on Mark Ricciuto's apparent IQ? Some say he was an okay captain.

Just as further evidence, James Hird has a Civil Engineering degree..... There are currently 17 clubs out there that wouldn't touch him with a 40000000000 ft pole at the moment.....

The players elected their leadership group, which was VB, Talia, Walker, Dangerfield, Thompson and Sloane. Then Walshy observed prior to Christmas and made his own list out of those 6. After Christmas break when we really started match simulation training he finalised his decision and presented that to the Board. The Board ratified his decision to appoint Walker as Captain.
Thanks for that mate. Makes sense.

I for one hope it works out well and he captains the club for 5+ years. Big fan of Tex.
