Strangely i really like it! I wish i could get Laird as well but apart from that i am content with this team. I do expect i'll need to use some trades to fix mistakes but i think that is true for many teams
Your team looks fine and similar to many.
If you want to get Laird - my suggestion is to downgrade Swallow to a mid rookie (eg, Parfitt if named), move SPP onto the field and upgrade Salem. That should get you thereabouts. I think SPP looks good enough to be starting.

I have since made some adjustments to my team since yesterday. Surprise, surprise!
Out goes Ryan in the backline for EVW. Can't overlook him given his promising scores over JLT, and won't be sure of how many rookies will be available to downgrade to, so don't want to select Ryan and limit my downgrade options further.
Not sure about Parfitt. He was moreso a selection based on his MID/FWD DPP, but he has less job security than Pickett.
Whilst I love Bowes, I downgraded him to Strnadica as I need a captain's loophole and the extra $60k will come in handy with making any early rookie adjustments in the first three weeks.
Pretty sure this will be my final team.*

Had Treloar instead of Titch but needed to make cap space for Ryder in place of Nank as I read Hampson may not be actually out for that long, so I am guessing/hoping Ryder will be sole ruck for most of the season. (Please Kenny).
Back in treloar to go 120 now haha.
I know i will probably have to cut another premo mid to make way for marchbank, WHE and possibly another premo defender as team board research has question marks over VW, Otten, Hibberd and Parfitt lining up rnd 1.
Anyway, thoughts welcome.
By bigger part, I'm assuming you mean 100%. Picking 8 breakout candidates is less likely than picking lotto numbers.
Might as well start preparing for next season bud.
If that's set up worked you would win the $50k no dramas, but boy oh boy I would recommend not picking that many mid-pricers.
Agreed... Auto pick never works.
On option 1, I would start by dropping Lloyd for Maybe Marchbank and drop Vince in the guts for Beams and try to upgrade Witts and see how that looks Just my 2c.
Team two, but change Ablett to Treloar to save cash, a trade and make more points.

Defence could work out, Mids are excellent selections maybe a little too strong though considering how risky the rucks and forwards are. Personally I would downgrade Titch to next best rookie who you like then I would upgrade Witts to someone proven.

Yep, hoping a couple of cheap rooks are named I don't have. A fwd & Mid would be nice, get rid of WHE or Bowes, upgrade to premo fwd/Roughnuts, get rid of Titch & get rid of Witts to.......
Sounds like your onto it and certainly have selected the right mids. The only toss up in the mids (assuming a Titch downgrade) would be JPK for either Hanners or Jelwood for me.

Hanners & Jelwood are the ones I'd like to upgrade to around bye time (another reason to ditch the Titch) but I think they are both more likely to throw in a stinker somewhere more than my other mids. Well I hope anyway.

If they had a full list to choose from I would agree with you.
But Coniglio and Whitfield will miss considerable time. Deledio doesn't look close. Hopper recently returning from injury. Even Deboer will miss early.
With a bit of luck, he might just get us the first 8 or 9 games. Has certaintly earnt an opportunity the way he has played through the JLT. SC friendly game too

This is a pretty solid team. A bit risky, but on the safer side considering the options this year is throwing at us.
