There's something that happened earlier in the year that I should have shared with you all. I wasn't sure it was true, it seemed very far fetched, and I didn't want to spread false rumors.

It happened back in March, just before the start of the season. I was walking down the street minding my own business when a genie dressed in a Collingwood scarf jumped out in front of me and said ...

Genie: "Hey 76, I come bearing news of the first half of Collingwood's season!"

Me (Shocked): "Oh, really?"

Genie: "Yeah, you want the good news or the bad news first?"

Me: "Hit me with the bad news genie"

Genie: "Alright, the bad news is Pies are going to have season ending injuries early on to Daisy, Fas and Toovs. Beams and Young are going to be injured and not play the first half of the season. Ball isn't going to return to the team until late May, and Keeffe isn't going to be available at all. There'll be a significant injury to every draft recruit at some stage.

Me: "Really?"

Genie: "Yeah then Frost is going to debut and do really well ..."

Me: "Oh, is that the good news?"

Genie: "Nah, that's still bad news, he is then going to be hit with a serious knee injury. Also Jolly and Maxwell and Russell and Goldsack are all going to be out for multpile weeks with injury. And Krak will miss a whole bunch of weeks with fitness issues and personal stuff"

Me: "Good grief, sounds like we're going to struggle to field a team!"

Genie: "Nah, but the Pies will have to blood seven debutants."

Me: "Wow! What about the good news? Let me guess, Swanny having had the best pre-season of his career will have a blinder?"

Genie: "Nah, he won't, he's going to struggle. But let me finish with the bad news first. Bucks is going to evolve the gameplan a little and the lads are going to be a bit confused and struggle to adapt to it - Pies are going to cop a few thumpings!"

Me: "Holy heck, what else will go wrong?"

Genie (thinking a little): "Hmmm, I think that's about it."

Me: (deflated) "So what's the good news then?"

Genie: "At the bye, Collingwood are going to be sitting on 8 wins, 4 losses"

Im sorry I really can't see us making the top 4. I hope we don't. But Geelong, Hawthorn and Sydney area locks. Fremantle look very solid, won't drop games they shouldn't. Can't see it changes really. I see us finishing 5th with 16 wins.

The best side we can hope for by the end of the year is this but I doubt it will be match fit

Backs
Williams Brown Shaw
O'Brien Keeffe Maxwell

Mids
Jolly Pendlebury Swan
Ball Sidebottom Beams

Forwards
Elliott Reid D Thomas
Lynch Cloke Krakouer

Int
Blair Macaffer Goldsack Young

Res
Dwyer Martin J Thomas Seedsman Kennedy Sinclair

He was absolutely shocking in the NAB, so much so I hoped it was injury related at the time o_O
He turned it over more than Barham use to when he played. I thought he was terrible as well tbh.

I think we will lose 2 more games to both Hawthorn and Sydney but I also think our best chance to make the top 4 is if we are to replace Sydney. Yes they are going though a good path of form but I think they can lose 3 more games this season.

I am going to say it with 95% confidence, if we finish the season 16-6 we will be in the top 4. If not lets just hope we play Carlton first week and beat them.

God knows what would happen on this board if we lost to them...

Great read. Thank you for all the hard work and for sharing your thoughts with us.

As for Bucks, I see a guy investing for 2014 and beyond, who is able to field competitive teams despite crippling injury woes. Today's game against the Doggies highlighted the brilliance and inconsistency of youth!

Chin up! We're on our way.

My view is that we will either make the four or finish 6-7th. We won't just miss the four. If we finish 5th it means we had a massive form reversal and got pipped on the line in which case any team that plays us in a final will be crapping their pants. I would still give us a shot at the flag if we made fifth.

We just have to hope we get no more long term injuries and hit a gear that others have potentially already switched to prematurely.

Buckley also has to get these guys believing BS like that, believing they haven't peaked yet. Scott has been saying it almost every game about Geelong when in actual fact I believe they have peaked and if they were not gifted so many games at skilled would be in more trouble than anyone else in the four.

I love a good story and it,s not a bad perspective, but god knows we are a real jeykll and hyde team, our best allows us to compete against any of them including the big boys and then we put in a 2nd half like yesterday,s.I am having mood swings like you would not believe it really is driving me crazy.

Ps Go the Pies though.:thumbsu:

Great analysis.

If we hadn't had so many injuries we'd probably be top four but not dominating at this stage. Thats about where I'd expect this list to be at, given some real structural weaknesses. The club seems to see it the same way with a focus on rebuilding the list. I'm wrapt to see us with a coach that takes that approach rather than the myopic success now version. Reality is while all is possible we haven't looked anywhere good enough to challenge for the flag this year.

I used to say that i didn't hate the man that is Nathan Buckley and i still don't hate him personally apart from some questionable decisions at the selection table (dropping Didak, persisting with Sinclair & Clarke, not playing Paine, playing Witts when he wasn't up to it etc) and some questionable gameplan issues like the 'kick to Cloke' mentality. BUT i really think that if we get everything right after the bye and get our senior players back into the squad (Beams, Young, Russell, Goldsack & Thomas) then we are a 1 in 5 chance to win the premiership this year and i say 1 in 5 because i think there are a lot of teams that can win it this year and i'll go over them later in this thread.

This goes against everything you've posted about Bucks. Flog. You and Krueger have blamed Bucks' coaching not the injuries etc.

24-13 record as head coach. Not a bad start, considering our current plight.

8-4 this year with 3 (Beams, D.Thomas & Ball) of our best 5 midfielders, missing all bar a few games so far this year.

We have a quality coach, the ultimate professional, compare his work as an assistant and overseas leadership training and development coaching to that boofhead Voss just sitting in the head coaches chair without any of that foundation and expecting to be gifted more flags

We almost won 2 flags with a game plan that was really a tweak on the St Kilda/Sydney game plan taken to the next level with The Swarm or forward press, that has really defined us as a club and our best days are when we tackle manically like that

But that game plan is obsolete now and some premiership players are nearing the end so the challenge now is two fold.. find the next evolution of our forward press and develop replacements for aging stars..

If I had to be honest that's probably a 4 to 5 year plan normally but thankfully we were the 3rd youngest premiership team of all time and more than half the players from it will still compete for positions during our next window so we are managing to do it on the fly like Geelong seem to be able to do

Injuries not withstanding 2014/2015 can be serious windows if the club keeps developing the youth, gets a clean run with injuries and finds that next game plan :rainbow:

Hey **** off, if you don't like my posting then you don't have a right to say anything about it.
I said he has made some questionable decisions that is all.

BS. You have been moaning about far more then that, hence your liking everything posted by Krueger bagging Buckley. Flog.

I 'like' a lot of things. Open your eyes, i 'liked' all of the posts on the first page of this thread simply because they posted in my thread. If you're going to be a dick about it then perhaps i won't share it around so much.

Or could you just be jealous that people don't like your posts as much as they like mine?
