These are good lyrics. Pretty simple but effective. You only want something when it's gone, and he's using metaphors to describe this.

As for the last stanza, it's someone who is depressed, drinking, and wanting their utopia to actually keep going instead of being brief. But it's pain for the happiness to come to him, and as soon as it does it goes. Very eloquently put.
