Not defending Cousins, but I would suggest domestic violence is worse than a bloke destroying himself
Of course drug issues lead to far wider and more systemic criminal problems - just not something Cuzz has got into yet (that we know of) despite his recent run of crazy antics
Don't disagree, but was simply talking about the drug culture. I'm sure it exists, but neither club has had any publicised drug issues or public implosions like Cousins, Kerr, Fletcher etc.

I think the public implosions is the big one - in terms of bringing attention to our club.
Kerr should be in gaol. The rest of it is pretty minor shit (Chick aside)
But in terms of drug use - I don't think we are on our own. I also don't think we are cleanskins now - we'd still have lads on the gear
IIRC, we drafted McGregor instead of Pav.
Also, IIRC, we gave up pick 2 for Carey which turned out to be Wells at Norf.

I just read recently the same year you signed Carey you had talked Pav into making the move but you could only afford one and Ayres wanted The Duck.

At the end of 2002 it was widely speculated that Pavlich wanted to come to Adelaide, unfortunately we went chasing Carey instead.
Ayers must have thought that Carey would deliver a flag in the short term.
If we had of gotten Pav, I reckon we'd have 3 flags by now.

Not sure about that, but could be true. After all Ayres over ruled every piece of evidence from our recruiters that Angwin was a waste of space. And guess what.....he was indeed. We could have had any of Shaun Burgoyne, Kane Cornes or Scott Thompson before he went to Melbourne.

And yeah with Pav you'd think one of 2005, 2006 and 2012 could well have ended differently.

It was pretty well known at the time. Pav held out contract talks in 2002 and there were heaps of rumours that he wanted to come home. Rucci even tried to speculate that he was going to Port, but my mail at the time was that he was only ever interested in leaving Freo if he was going to play for the Crows.
At the time Pav was still 2-3 years from really breaking out, but Ayres went chasing the short term option.

If Carey didn't badly injure his neck in 2004 and was forced to retire, potentially 2005 might have ended differently as well.
Reckon if Pav was a Crow, he'd be a more decorated player than he is. Yes, I'm biased.

That's the one genuine chance we had of getting Pavlich home; and we shit the bed and got Carey instead.
Arguably cost us as least one flag.
After that, Pav was never coming home, just using us to pump his value up.
Would take Henderson over Walker everyday of the week.

Whatever happened to that other bloke that was going to be the "next captain"? Cedric Clangerfield? Podric Danglefeld?? Something like that?
