thank god the port adelaide jumper issue is put to rest

For the last time Port Adelaide Power plays in the AFL. Port Adelaide Magpies play in the SAFL. They are 2 different entities. No one gives 2 shinny shites that Port Magpies were the most sucessful club in the SAFL. THat time is over, start supporting the team created for you in 1997.
There it is spelt out in black and white (and teal).

I rest my case.

Papa G...boo hoo.
Im sure you will get over it. If you dont...well, no-body cares anyway.

Until then...keep drinking that SOUR Port Adelaide Power 2007 Premiers Wine.

Maybe your computer can read this one out for you, you illiterate so and so.
Il say it slowly....

The ...S.....A....N....F....L....team.....who...are....minnows....in....a.....junior....league.....and....play.....as.....the....mag...pies.....or......the.....AFL.....team.....for......PORT....AD.....EL...AI....DE....who.....are.....the.........P.....OW....ER....and....started......in.....1997.....you......enormous......gobshite.

Id like to close by quoting a great man...WILLY WONKA:
----------------------------------------------------------

Wrong, sir! Wrong! Under section 37B of the contract signed by him, it states quite clearly that all offers shall become null and void if - and you can read it for yourself in this photostatic copy:

I, the undersigned, shall forfeit all rights, privileges, and licenses herein and herein contained, et cetera, et cetera... Fax mentis incendium gloria cultum, et cetera, et cetera... Memo bis punitor delicatum!

It's all there, black and white, clear as crystal! You stole fizzy lifting drinks! You bumped into the ceiling which now has to be washed and sterilized, so you get nothing! You lose! Good day, sir!
-----------------------------------------------------------

Pretty much sums up the Port Adelaide Power Football Club. Whilst I dont know about the fizzy lifting drink part...I do agree with Mr Wonka that the Port Adelaide supportes should all be washed and sterilized....:D:D

To all the Collingwood people...Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

There wouldn't be a Power without a Port Adelaide SANFL club. The black and white prison bar jumper is part of their history, and isn't actually an item for serious debate.

Anyway, it's a totally moot point since the AFL binned Heritage Round.

Love how the instant it is Collignwood everyone takes the other side.

Now seriously other Victorian teams, if some upstart team came into the AFL demanding to take your identity would you just roll over and let them.

Look forward to your responses.

Who's trying to take your identity - you have a proud and rich history. If anything, this decision shows we are less likely to "pinch" your identity.

We are just happy we can now acknowledge our proud and rich heritage ..... and we no longer have to masquerade as two clubs, when all and sundry could see the shared bloodline and ancestry.

As an outsider it seems to me to be quite simple...

Port Adelaide Magpies formed in the 1800's

Dominate SANFL in latter part of 1900's...

Get admitted to AFL in 1997...

Port enters AFL under new nickname (thanks to Collingwood's analness)

SANFL doesn't want to lose Port team so forces split

New SANFL team is formed - the PAMFC

Both teams struggle thanks to split identity

Both teams merge today

?????????????????

Profit

Kudos to you estibador. I have a newfound respect for Freo supporters. As for the OP, there are many football clubs that "own" the black and white, you simply own those colours in the AFL.

And despite you winning this years premiership (and well done for that) almost every other club that has worn the black and white has done those colours more justice than the Collingwood FC.

Whilst I agree with you about the moot point and stuff.

The Prison bars jumper is port of the Port Adelaide SANFL club. The Port Power club are/were their own entity.

Its like saying Fremantles Jumper has to be White & Red stripes or V's or whatever it was, becasue East Fremantle (or whoever) had that jumper.

As they have joined both clubs...good on them, but if they start pushing for use of the SANFL jumper....thats where the issue is. No one cares less that they have joined together, like I said earlier, I cant care less about GWS....but I saw a pic yesterday of a blatant copy of the Geelong Jumper and i was fairly worried they would use that.

I can understnad completley where Collingwood people are coming from and regardless its prison bars....its still black and white vertical lines....cant be allowed to happen.

You simply own those colours in the AFL.

COuldnt agree more...and, no-one should be able to have anything even close to the same sort of thing.

Port should use the same Prison Bar Jumper to show heritage and good on them if they do...BUT, it should be TEAL/BLACK/WHITE prison bars....not straight out black & white. And i think this is what the OP was getting at.

Almost every other club that has worn the black and white has done those colours more justice than the Collingwood FC.

Not in the AFL they havent...and really, its the only league that counts.

We are just happy we can now acknowledge our proud and rich heritage

So...the PORT ADELAIDE bit in the name doesnt mean anything:confused::confused::confused:

It looks like Fremantle ARE paying homage to their heritage (new home and away guernseys, as well as their heritage guernsey design) ... note the similar colours to Sydney:

History
The rich football heritage in Fremantle dates back to 1885 when the premiership was contested by four clubs – Rovers (predecessor of the Perth Football Club), Victorians, Perth High School and Fremantle (wearing the infamous red and white playing strip).

In 1886, a second Fremantle-based side – Unions - replaced Perth High School to maintain the number of teams at four. The following year Fremantle did not continue in the competition leaving Unions as the only Fremantle team. Unions adopted Fremantle’s red and white playing uniforms that year and in 1890, they adopted the Fremantle Football Club name. The team won flags in 1888 and 1889 as Unions and in 1890 as Fremantle.

In 1898 a new club emerged at the Port, East Fremantle, wearing the blue and white they continue to wear today, and broke through for its first premiership in 1900, the year that also saw South Fremantle, wearing red and white, admitted to the competition.

East and South Fremantle have since gone on to forge one of the most intense rivalries in football, appearing in 70 WAFL grand finals with East winning 29 and South winning 11.

During the annual AFL heritage round, Fremantle wears a red and white playing uniform which is identical to the guensey worn by the original Fremantle Football Club during their first premiership in 1885 and recognises the rich football heritage of Fremantle.
History

Thats fine, and it says for Heritag Round....which isnt going anymore.

And I really honeslt ylike the new freo jumper...its fantastic. The purple is deeper and the V's is heritage and traditional...so its great.

WHAT I ACTUALLY SAID WAS....

Its like saying Fremantles Jumper has to be White & Red stripes or V's or whatever it was, becasue East Fremantle (or whoever) had that jumper.

So imagine if Fremantle wanted to pay homage to thier origins...and said..We're gonna wear White with Red V's.

You think SOuth Melb/Sydney People wouldnt be up in arms. Not to mention the wider footy community cos its just plain stupid.

Freo were smart about it...they have stayed loyal to thier colours, and recognise thier heritage with the design. ITS A WIN WIN.

What im saying is that Port...should be allowed to use the Prison abr jumper if they want (like Freo's V's)...but they MUST use thier Power Colours....TEAL, BLACK & WHITE.

I dunno if someone can come up wiht something, im not good at it...But what about a Half Teal, Half Black Jumper with the prison bars.

Personally i think will distance other supporters from jumping on the Port Train...but if thats what they want.

MAYBE PORT SHOULD HAVE A TEAL JUMPER WITH BLACK PRISON BARS.

JUMPER EXAMPLES ANYONE?????

Also for ROCKETT24. This post and the other estibador are the only 2 posts on the thread that deserve reading. The rest are stupid and uninformed. The silly Collingwood supporter OP made some sort of tenuous link to the jumper issue regarding the unification of the 2 clubs which really nobody was even thinking about, then ill informed dimwits jump in sprouting off some crap about youse joing da big leagie youse play by our rulz crap. It infantile and boring.

Also post 38 by PRIMETIME PRICEY is worth reading Papa G.

Its just a shame he stopped barracking for the PAFC

Like I said. This issue has been done to death and whetever the fine detail of the history it's all moot since the agreement was entered into by Port Power and that's a fact. They will not ever be allowed to use the black and white stripes or the magpies nickname. Get over it! That includes Collingwood and Port Power trolls!

If you really do have this opinion ROCKETT24 then Im guessing you're infuriated with the fact that Carlton wear the same colours as Geelong despite the fact that Geelong had them first?

Maybe you should contact your club and get them to lobby the AFL to make Carlton change their colours?

After all "no-one should be able to have anything even close to the same sort of thing"

But Port doesn't WANT to wear the prison bars in the AFL ... that horse has bolted..... they have the "back in black" design now which is a similarly strong design, an our CEO and President have both said they have no intention of changing it. Why try to butcher the prison bars by changing its colours when we have a home and away jumper that looks great.

So we have a strong and distinguishable jumper in the AFL, and the SANFL, and should there ever be another heritage round (which I bleeive there will be) - and the game is played in Adelaide, Port would wear the prison bars - as this is the agreement they have with Collingwood.

so we have:

AFL Home
Port-2010.gif

AFL Away
Port-Away-2010.gif

AFL Heritage (Home Games)
Port-Adelaide-Heritage-2007.gif

AFL Heritage (Away Games)
Port-2009.gif

SANFL (for our SANFL teams)

I like the new Port Home jumper...im a fan of traditional jumpers and this and the freo ones are fantastic.

I was only saying that if they want to wear the prison bars, wear them, but with the POWER colours...just like Freo are wearing V's, but with the DOCKERS colours.

I always likes the Half Teal, Half Black seperated by a thick white Lightning Bolt jumepr too....traditional with a modern twist.

Yes, thank god this issue has been 'put to rest'...

Anyone with half a brain knows that the Port prison bar jumper is markedly different to the Collingwood jumper. Besides, until recently Collingwood's jumper is 'white with black stripes', while Port's is clearly 'black with white stripes'. By Collingwood logic both jumpers should be able to be worn in the same game let alone the same competition.

Collingwood couldn't handle a more successful Magpies football team joining "their" competition.. it's as simple as that

Collingwood - 42 grand finals
Collingwood - 15 flags
Port Adelaide - 62 grand finals
Port Adelaide - 37 flags

Dunno where you get your stats from...but Port Adelaide have only played in 2 grandfinals...1 win and 1 ABSOLUTE FLOGGING!!!!!

If you are taking into account the SANFL Premierships...they are like encouragement awards...

Geelong ahve won many many VFA Premierships before joining the VFL/AFL too...but we, and every other team acknowledge the fact that these arent VFL/AFL Premierships...as you should too with your Wheetbix Premierships.

since you joined the big time, its 10-9 in our favour, including 2 finals. This success you speak of ........................... just where was it again?

rofl... I have 62 peanuts to your 42 gold nuggets. That makes me better than you? Idiot!

When I was playing U13's...there was this fat kid for the Colts...he was 16 and was so fat, he had special permission to stay in the U13 league cos he would get flogged in the U16 league.

Port Magpies are just the same Fat kid in the SANFL....put them where they belong...119 POINTS is the Grand Final difference.

BOOYA!!!!

Ah yes I'm sure your pre-war flags are "gold" compared to our equivalent SANFL flags. As a matter of fact Port actually smashed Collingwood in the 1910 Champions of Australia game (played between the VFL and SANFL premiers), so our peanuts were actually better that your gold-plated primadonnas! Port also beat Carlton, Fitzroy and the good old South Melbourne Bloods in other editions of this game. Hmm I'm starting to see a pattern here. Maybe the SANFL was not only equal to the VFL back then, but it was actually better!

Let's be real here. Any VFL flag won pre 80s in an 8 to 11 team state comp is no better than the equivalent SANFL or WAFL flag. Thems is just facts. :thumbsu:

In what area did you play? This seems familiar to me.
