A midfield consisting of Turan, Sahin, Altintop, Emre etc shouldn't be losing to Azerbaijan ffs.

The way I see it is upsets are drawn from either

1. Laughable/lazy defending or
2. Poor finishing

The midfield really has little say on when or if a upset occurs. The front and backline do and as Turkey have proved in the past year there defense and attacking frontline have been nothing short of horrendous. Australia IMO is much much better off in this area then Turkey are for example, that is how little I rate it.

LOL, so now, according to the Sun, Modric is worth £20m...

The media has become an absolute joke nowadays.

Also read that Liverpool are chasing hard for Bojan. Would laugh if they paid a stupid price like £15m for him.

15 for bojan looks a shitload better than 35 for ANDEH TEH MESSIAH~!

i rate bojan, young, good awareness around the goals and has been growing around some world class talent in villa, ibra, messi, etc etc. i reckon he would be a great player away from barca. whether barca want to let him go and keep him as a bit part player until villa retires is another thing.

We are rating N'Gog at 7m??? Seriously??

It's over priced for sure but if you buy English you overpay.

Shhhh don't tell Sunderland that ;)

Still Henderson for 13 mill + N'Gog is better then paying 20 mill for him outright

I know he's talked about as the next Gerrard, but I've been watching him fairly closely since we were linked with him last winter and I just don't see anything in Henderson at all.

My mackem mate reckons he's a good player but not worth anywhere near the £15m we were rumoured to be rating him at.

Still only young I guess.

Jason Burt from the Telegraph saying we're after DJ Campbell (who's got a 1.25M buy-out clause) and Kevin Nolan on a free transfer. Nolan wants a 5 year deal apparently, Newcastle have only offered him a 2 year extension.

Typial Championship sort of signings I guess.

Would have though Campbell and Nolan would be after (and capable of getting) a stay in the premier league. Would be good gets for West Ham.

Apparently Phil Jones is having a medical at Liverpool, now he is one that I think might be worth paying big money for.

Apparently not now, he was expected to miss England U21 flight for their Euro's as he had "business to attend to", it appears he now won't miss the flight.

oh and Henderson 20m and Modric 20m.....Hmmm I think not.

Don't look too much into United's valuation of Modric. A fair transfer fee for Modric would be in the 30-35 million range with the likes of Man City probably expected to pay 45 million for him. The ridiculously low valuation reflects more on United's precarious financial state, they have just pulled out of an agreement to purchase Jack Rodwell for an agreed fee of 25 million. They probably turned around and offered Everton 15 million.

Henderson is 13 mill + Ngog which = 20 million. Not a bad deal at all for a player that SAF was very keen on signing.

Jury is out on Henderson, I think that he is showing enormous potential for a 20 year old, just needs to take the next step now. The fact that King Kenny and Sir Alex both rated him suggests that he is going to be a success.

We wouldn't pay anywhere near £45m for someone like Modric.

Our record signing is still £32m for Robinho, and we can get players like Tevez, Yaya, Silva all in the £25-30m bracket.

FWIW, I don't think anyone seriously believes United would get Modric for £20m, I doubt even United would believe it.

Just paper talk, £30m is about the right price IMO.

And FWIW, I wouldn't want us to spend more than £10m on Henderson either. I doubt Sunderland would sell at that price so a transfer would be unlikely. And I would be fine with that (he may well end up as the next Gerrard and people will be thinking £20m is a bargain.

and yet again, you're wrong.

You got Silva for about £27m because Valencia were in debt.

Modric is just as good, if not better than Silva. If anything, should he go on sale, he'll command a price of over £40m.

Harry, Levy, Modric's Agent have constantly stressed that he won't be going anywhere and based on that, you'd think only a genuine panic buy would even tempt us. If Andy Carroll went for £35m, then really, Modric should be worth quite a bit more, as he's a far more talented player (even though they play different positions).

Modric has the 'most important player' factor.

If we sell him, then we sell our top 4 hopes as well. Not something we'd be keen on doing.

If we can get the likes of Silva for £27m for whatever reason, why would we pay and extra £18m for someone who (IMO) is no better.

Fergie wouldn't sell that lot a virus, Levy wouldn't sell Berbatov, we weren't going to sell SWP to Chelsea, Carrick wanted a contract extension at Spurs. Simple fact, in football not for sale just doesn't mean anything. If the price is right, any football club in the world will sell.

A goalscorer is always going to cost more than a creater. Not sure why, but it's just the way football is. And you think Carroll is vastly overpriced at £35m anyway.

But must end there before I get told off for discussing football again.

Did you read the part about Valencia being in debt?

They sold because they had to sell. Us on the other hand, would much rather hang on to Modric, because if we sold him, we wouldn't be competing for a top 4 spot.

As you say, if the price is right, the deal will go through. We did some fantastic business with Berbatov and Carrick, especially considering their contracts were running out and that we were around the bottom half of the ladder.

Modric is a different case. As I already said, we're challenging for a top 4 spot now and selling Modric would essentially dispel our chances of making it again. To go with that, he still has 5 odd years left on his contract and has constantly stressed that he's happy at the club.

In our position, we can easily demand a big fee for him. He's one of the best playmakers in the world and that's not even getting to the fact that we paid quite a big fee to get him in the first place.[/quote]
