& in your opinion what was Henderson worth?

We were linked with a £15m move for him back in January. So I watched him closely, spoke to my mackem mate etc, and came to the conclusion that £15m was way too much.

But he does have a lot of potential for improvement (nothing I've seen yet convinces that he's going to be a top player) and much of his price is down to that.

But for me, forgetting the potential for improvement he's a £8-10m player, and still a risk at that price.

Sturridge isn't good enough, Drogba I suspect we'd be happy to include but what is his worth now?

Levy won't sell on the cheap.

Sturridge is better then Pavluychenko. If you guys don't want him, perhaps Chel$ki can be convinced to include Drogba + Lampard + 15 million for Modric. Yes, both players have there best years behind them but Spurs would be set for the next season or 2. Plus you could buy another young gun for 15 million or so and strengthen the squad even further. If you play your cards right Spurs could come out big winners in this deal in the same way that Chelsea were made to look stupid with the Torres deal.

Are you serious?

£15m plus Lampard plus Drogba?

Why would Chelsea do that?

You could say the same thing about Chelsea paying 50 million for Torres, who hasn't been fit since 2009 and has his best footballing years behind him.

Chelsea's desperate for Modric and Lampard/Drogba are both getting on a bit - Chelsea have been known to do stupid deals in the past and will do so again.

Time will tell whether Torres is a stupid deal or not. Too early to call that IMO.

And Torres can lay claim when fully fit to being one of the elite players in football (as Liverpool supporters kept reminding us).

Although Modric is being talked up as the next Pele/maradona/messi hybrid, he just isn't in the top category of footballers IMO.

Lose Lampard and gain Modric, and Chelsea haven't improved that much if at all. Why pay £15m and a £10m player for the privilege?

You sound surprised. With all the press going nuts he was always going to be "tapped up" or have his head turned whatever you want to call it. He will still be a spurs player come Sep 1*.

*I'm going on the belief that Chelsea won't offer 40m for him.

No at all Borgsta.

My post was more in agreeance with Moomba in that all that was needed was Luka to force the issue, to make it happen. Clearly I am not as confident as yourself. Quite happy to be wrong here.

LOL. Stupid post is stupid. We just paid 4 mill for Nolan and gave him 50k a week yet we cant afford Parkers wages this year . Gold has already said he will personally bankroll Parkers wages if no fee is agreed.

You (the club) can afford him............... but Gold pays for it.
So why would Gold personally pay for it if the almighty financial Hammers can afford it?

As you said stupid post is stupid, whatever that means when translated in English. ;)

Would look completely stupid if they went on and sold him now.

And one wonders whether what Modric had said is true - that if a certain club or whoever came in for him then they'd agree to sell him. Pathetic act from Tottenham if Modric isn't talking shit.

Doesn't sound like the player will be too happy though.

One wonders if this is really over yet. You'd think so, based on the statement.

Agree with Moomba in this case about the quality of the player. Must've missed the part where he became the best player in the Premiership. Not sure whether he is what Chelsea really need.

What annoys me about all this is that it all gets played out through the press.

Much better if player can go to club, say he wants out, club goes about getting best deal possible.

But we get it all played out through the press, both sides feeling the need to blame the other, and the buying side playing silly buggers putting in bids that are never going to be accepted.

Good theatre, but bad for football. The upshot is that Modric is going to be demonised, and the Spurs board are going to be slaughtered for making a £15m+ profit on a player which is undoubtedly good business.

Heard something today about Levy when Berbatov was sold. Publicly furious with Berbatov and Man United, privately ecstatic at the deal that got done. I reckon much the same story to be played out.

From everything "insiders" say about the Berb deal Levy was happy to let him sit in the reserves for a season before being convinced by Ramos to let him go.

I'm still not 100% sure that the daily mail story is true. Modders never talks to the English media yet suddenly is baring his soul to the Mail exclusively.

Btw I'll split this thread later today.

Eh, he made 33 starts in his last season at Spurs, only Malbranque made more.

Can't see it being made up. Too many quotes, and no statement from the Modric camp saying it's all bolocks.

If it is true though, he clearly wants to leave but won't put in a transfer request. The loyalty bonus situation in England is farcical, why should Spurs pay him a bonus for his "loyalty" if he's sold now?

not sure how many of you guys have an iphone/ipod/ipad but there's an app on there called football rumours. finds them from all different sites. much more convenient than searching all the individual sites.
does anyone else use it? and is it reliable?

Bit silly of United to pull out of their agreement to buy Rodwell. Similar situation to Tevez when they refused to pay the transfer fee they had previously agreed with Tevez's owners (that Iranian bloke). According to GrandBlue Modric is worth a minimum of 40 million quid and will soon take over from Messi as the world's best player.
