The list of the top 50 sports programmes on Foxtel in 2013 is now out:

http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2013/12/pay-tv-2013-top-50-sports-shows.html

Football - 19
Cricket - 13
RL - 12
RU - 4
Soccer - 2

For years we've heard RL types gloating about how RL dominated Foxtel with most of the top rating programmes but now they've been relegated to third place! Cricket will of course fall back on this list next year with no Ashes and no Big Bash on Foxtel.

Not quite ratings but rather internet searches

15. BATTLE OF THE BRUTES
Which Australian footy code is officially the most popular? The AFL. By a mile. Before you go off your rocker, soccer fans, even "football" didn't come close. We checked.

the NRLs ratings has slipped for the last few years, you must remember that is was through packers love of NRL and News'ltd half owner ship of the NRL for all of those years are the reasons why it has always been advertised as a tv sport. it was only the last 2 or 3 years ago the NRL went from a private ownership to an AFL styled commission

If you don't know the history and reasoning behind the creation of the GC and GWS and you cannot google the numerous references that abound then it's not my place or inclination to educate you.
Obviously from your reply you have never run a business, and don't know the first rule of business.

I wonder if its possible to find out where all the hits have come from ( what states), and i wonder if that roughly correlates with the number (%) of players from each state playing in the AFL.

All things considered, taking into account ratings over the past few seasons, and where the game projects itself in the next 5-10 years, GWS and GC could assist heavily in the growth of Northern ratings. GWS, much like any startup team with a look to sustained success have built a solid platform, with a real eye on sustainability for on field performance post season 6. 6 seasons is about the average for a player to reach peak performance, obviously in experienced gained, amount of pre season work etc..

When the next TV deal is negotiated, GWS and GC will unfortunately be a season or 3 away from these peaks, this will/could hamper significant growth in the short term, yet aid long term growth through attendance increases and then later TV.

my take is that when GWS start winning, the fans will come, same as GC, unfortunately, this will come at the expense of other clubs, yet a necessary evil.

Does it necessarily have to be at the expense of other clubs?
