Tyrone Vickery be the campaigner you blokes are thinking of.

It's not just property.

I know for absolute fact that several Geelong players have ties in farming assets out at modewarre. 1 player in particular has 100 head of cattle a year "on agistment" that he never sees or does a thing with. Might not sound a lot, but take one little modewarre Heifer to market fetches about 1700 bucks at the moment.

There's another benefit - farmers get massive tax concessions, so if you're a high earning footballer (say $400k+ per year) you are paying a truck load of tax which can be minimized by having a farm - particularly beef and dairy.

DO you I have a quick summary?

Something about writing off non farm tax with farm debt/losses?

Apparently we have met with Ben Brown virtually.

Sounds like we might be leading the race for him. I dont see how we pay him and Tmac big bucks when realistically both probably wont play in the same team (expecting Weid/Jacko to play too).

Very interesting.

Do you mean virtually as in we’ve nearly met with him, or virtually as in chatted on a Skype platform or similar

Surely TMac will get moved on if we secure Brown. If TMac goes to the backline, that would be a small fortune sitting in our defensive half. It seems we are set on Isaac Smith and Brown as our only targets. Not 100% sold on either tbh. Brown could be really good, but with our entries into the F50 being so poor, I'm not convinced he will do much. And Smith is well past his prime. We should be targeting blokes around the mid twenties like Langdon. We need another small forward or two as well IMO.

Yep if we get Brown I’d think Tmac is moved on. Tony Sheahan who I wouldn’t necessarily believe said he’s met with a Sydney based club whilst travelling through. GWS maybe keen with Cameron going.
I kind of feel we’ll be paying some of Tmac wage though if he goes. But also remember we’re offloading around 400k a year with preuss leaving.

If Smith can still run he's fine with me as a stop gap. Not sure we would be paying him anything outlandish.

Far more nervous about Brown given how he fits into our team and the cost. At least if it goes **** up again this year hes still young enough for the next coach to find some use out of hopefully.

LOL Smith.

Dunno how I'd go seeing him in a Dees jumper at a live game. Would take every bit of restraint I have (which is absolutely **** all to begin with) not to shower him with vitriol, bile, hatred and overpriced beer from the moment the game starts until it the very end. Hate that prick. And all I can think of when I think of him is him missing after the siren against Geelong.

There's so many forwards available if we end up with Smith I'm done.
I'd rather the club double Tom MacDonald's contract in salary and length.

Do you actually think Smith is a forward or did you mean Brown?

I think the whole “Brown will do nothing because our entries are terrible” notion is completely overblown.

Perhaps a reason why our entries can be so bad is because we have a forward line full of unnatural forwards who don’t know how to lead at the kicker.

Weideman and Fritsch both tend to call for it long so they can run and jump at it. Pickett is at their feet and too small to be a target. Jackson is still learning forward leading patterns, Melksham, Spargo and Neal Bullen are usually up around the ball as a high half forward. Hunt is fast but has no footy smarts and TMac is constantly out of position. Mitch Brown took 13 marks and had 20 disposals in our last game. He didn’t need super kicks to get those marks, he just needed to lead to the right spots.

I’m definitely not Browns biggest fan but I don’t buy into the notion that he’d be no good because of our entries. If we have someone who can read the play ahead, lead to where the kicker can actually make the kick, all they need to do is put it to advantage. Don’t have to have bullet passes to hit his chest.

North are perhaps one of the teams with worse skills and delivery inside 50 than us. Ben Brown will be fine. I think he'd prefer literally anyone over Jack Ziebell

Lol, it doesn’t work that way.

I still have concerns about Brown and Weideman in the same forward line, based on their contribution once the ball is on the ground.

We are desperate for another agile/pressure small forward in my opinion.

Well its more of a concern cause we have about 4 HFF we need to make a few calls on some of them and play 2 or 3 small forwards.

Hehe distracted at work, cooked that one soz :$.

Just meant we need forwards and I'd rather chase one and not give a contract (three years?) to someone who is going to be 32 before the next season. No idea what the plan is for Smith, I'd rather Tomlinson improve and get on a wing.

I've wondered this, and don't know whether you're right, or those who think the opposite are right.

But I am fairly sure that if we do get Ben Brown, one of you will be wrong.
