Draft Day is here

Unlike last year when the excitement of adding No.1 pick Harley Reid to our list was palpable (and also near certain), this draft is uncertain and viewed with equal parts excitement and trepidation

We go into the first night with pick 12, which is expected to slide to 15 after academy and Father Son selections and a lot of guesswork on who we’ll take. Or even if we actually use that pick with rumours circulating that we might trade up or back

Night two we have pick 26 (subject to change) along with a gaggle of late picks. Again, there’s the possibility of trading into the draft with another pick using one of our later future picks and even less certainty on who we might pick

The one near guarantee is that NGA product, Malakai Champion, will be an Eagle at some point over the next couple of days

So sit back and watch to see how the draft unfolds whilst praying we don’t do something stupid

And we thought trading 3 out for Baker, Owies, 45 and Allen was bad...

From Norf board.

pick f1 for caleb daniel ffs

Remember that Tigers are dead last in 2025 and North are expecting to lift out of the bottom tier.

Will probably end up around pick 10 for 19 & 27.
been hearing that about Norf for the last few years. That club needs a culture change

Nope north just wanted a player now & think they will rise up the ladder.

It’s a ballsy move I’ll give them that
But even if they finish in the eight? 10 for 27 and 30ish? Golly gee, and that’s best case scenario by a mile.

I can't comprehend how Shanahan hasn't been snapped up, and with Richmond and the Bulldogs unlikely to select a KPF, somehow he may well wind up with us. Do we need a KPF ourselves? Hell no. But he looks too good to pass up and we can always move him or Archer Reid down back depending on their development over the coming years. Would be happy with Whitlock, too.

Of course, but what makes a player a top end pick?
Im not pretending I am a draft guru, I will gladly put my hand up and say I have little idea about the draftees each year as I dont watch the juniors play.
But the best recruiters in the country employed by AFL clubs generally have a good eye for talent and make their deteminations based on their vast experience.
Some are obvious and they usually go top 10. But of course there are many aspects of a player that determine if they will make it in the high pressure environment of elite sport which is why there are guys in recruiting teams that also look at the mental side of prospects and whete they have the capacity to make it at the top level. No one has all the answers but they are very well informed.

Id be careful using numpty given your inability to see why we made the most obvious risk free trade of the night.
The draft is not a garantee but it is far from a lottery.
The correlation between high end picks and high end players is tight. There are booms and busts as there are with trades with exposed form but you continue to beleive that recruiters are at best, gamblers in a game of craps with no idea of the outcomes. Its clearly not the case but go ahead and think what you want but maybe refrain from asking stupid questions in a drafting thread if you dont like getting a straight answer.

I will ask what I want, fortunately there is some decent posters in the board who just gave the correct answer instead of an idiot like you trying to sell himself as some type of knowledge on footy. You always know the ones who know very little, they are the ones that throw out names like dinosaurs, old man, etc etc. it’s easier to do that than just talk real footy. Now move on and let the grown ups talk.

Holy **** it dawned one me richmond are going to leapfrog us in terms of our rebuild.

Norf have already leapfrogged us. After the trade richmknd has leapfrogged us.

2 top five picks next year. 2 top 6 picks this year
If West Coast made the trade North just made, you’d jump in front of a train.

A top five pick for 27 and 30. Caleb Daniel the star acquisition. Half a decade in the bottom two and poised for several more, relax.

Read their board? Supporters have some concern around their picks.

  • Bloke with ACL, who's having issues with his recovery.
  • Bloke with concussion issues
  • Massive reach for a KPF

Very odd decisions.

Norf have already leapfrogged us. After the trade richmknd has leapfrogged us.

How have Norf leapfrogged us? They should be ahead, considering when they started their rebuild, and they just traded away a top 5 pick for a couple of seconds.

2 top five picks next year. 2 top 6 picks this year

If their drafting this year is any indication, next year won't be too much of a concern.

I’d move Reid down back regardless so may as well take Shanahan if he is around

Dogs love Moraes apparently. Reckon Richmond either take Whitlock or trade to someone who will? Or Dodson?

Suspect our pick is Shanahan or Davis.
I agree, Moraes to Dogs and Tigers I feel take Dodson.

Shanahan at our pick is mental and too hard to pass up.

If by ballsy you mean terrible then I agree 100%

This is a somewhat questionable move if you’re the flag favourite next season. When you finish bottom 5 every year it’s absolutely moronic.
