Draft Day is here

Unlike last year when the excitement of adding No.1 pick Harley Reid to our list was palpable (and also near certain), this draft is uncertain and viewed with equal parts excitement and trepidation

We go into the first night with pick 12, which is expected to slide to 15 after academy and Father Son selections and a lot of guesswork on who we’ll take. Or even if we actually use that pick with rumours circulating that we might trade up or back

Night two we have pick 26 (subject to change) along with a gaggle of late picks. Again, there’s the possibility of trading into the draft with another pick using one of our later future picks and even less certainty on who we might pick

The one near guarantee is that NGA product, Malakai Champion, will be an Eagle at some point over the next couple of days

So sit back and watch to see how the draft unfolds whilst praying we don’t do something stupid

If North were desperate for a Key Fwd, why not just deal their Pick 2 to Richmond (or highest bidder) for two later first round picks, take two talls and keep their F1?

Instead they took yet another highly rated mid who'll have to compete with Sheezel, Wardlaw, McKercher, LDU, Phillips for mid time. Baffling.

What was Freo's offer? An F3 (pick 45)?
This year's pick 45 isn't even that flash from Port. The rumours were their picks in the 30's were on the table.

The prospective trade down value for us went to shit when us and the 2 teams directly below us were happy with all 3 players. Port wanted to be sure but not for anything significant. My high level interest in Berry was known but he wasn't that high on our board with Owies already coming in and Champion to come.

We had the academy / FS's on the board. Lalor, Ashcroft, FOS, Langford, Lombard, Draper, Smith, Allen, Lindsay, Reid.

I can't go any further as there are still a couple of top 20 players on WCE board in play.

Based on that had we kept pick 3 it would’ve been Langford

So Baker and Allan over him

(Plus Owies and 45)

That’s a fair result for us

FOS will play HB or maybe HF.

Get a life mate! Call yourself an Eagles supporter? If your lot in life is to be perennially disappointed then go join the ranks at Fremantle.
PICK 3 IS GONE !!
Support the club you supposedly barrack for!!

This is not an exaggeration when I say there is no light at end of tunnel when Kelly and Yeo leave.

I can't see a single mid in our squad beside Harley Reid and Clay. Putting faith in Hew/Hutch is such a cop out and excuse at this stage

The club we love is crumbling right in front of us and you rage that we melt.

One of the Eagles top 15 targets is still on the table so can't say much but **** ME you can see why it was nigh on impossible to buy back in.

Best laid plans down the path of 'best available' number 8 on WCE draft board Bo Allen. I really wish you the best Bo and I know Mini wants speed but I just don't see a midfielder in you mate. A good player yes, but midfield, not so much. Maybe in a few years.

Freo and the Power both wanted to move up but not by enough to get anything seriously meaningful. There will still be some very serious talents in the 40's in this draft.
Thanks for the reassurance. You can see the wce coloured googles when players are hyping up Bo Allen.

Lol at players describing ginbey and Allen as causing havoc off half back when they have at best average kicks.

Nothing against Bo Allen but he's an elite rotham replacement which isn't that bad

I think Richmond is more likely to keep that pick now they have traded that one. Dodson to Tigers, Moraes to Dogs then we have the pick of the board.
So if it is Dodson to Tigers at 28 and Moraes to the Dogs at 29 then us at 30 and Shanahan there is a steal.

I would love to go to Dogs and ask for pick 31.

If we could take Shanahan and Gross, that would be a great outcome.

What would I offer?
Initial fair offer of 44 plus Hawks F2.

Loads of good options should still be there at 44 if we keep it. The right slot for Nicholls or O'Farrell if we do not take Shanahan.

Alternatively, go to GWS who are done and want to cash out of 36 and get some points for Logan Smith. Offer up F2 with say 68 for 36. As a KPP, there is still a good grouping left. Shanahan, JWhitlock, Nicholls, Gerryne, Mraz, Ough, Barrat (3rd tall), O'Farrell, Sims, etc

Meanwhile the Lions have still got picks 46, 47, 49, 56 and 59. Well done Norf/Blues/Crows on gifting them these by not bidding when Levi was best available.

This could still end up a good trade and draft.

No one can argue that the four new recruits make the club instantly better.
Being better in the short term depends on people’s faith in Harry Edwards to adequately replace Barrass by enough that the other veterans can push it over the top. I think we are.

We’re better in the long run, with two firsts and two seconds to tackle next year with on top.

The argument of did we get maximum return for investment (we didn’t) is very fair, or are we as good in the long run as we could have been (I don’t think so) but people acting like we’ve gone backwards are being performative.

I’m relieved other clubs seemingly saved us from ourselves with Hotton (knee issue) and Bowman (biggest hanger does not a career make).

To me, Allan looks very similar to Ginbey and I wonder if we need 2 of that type. We need some good distributors in the back half and hopefully someone confident enough to run and carry the footy. If he develops into a good inside mid then it’s all good.

Twomey said he’s not expecting any bids on Champion so hopefully we don’t need to use either of our next 2 picks to pay for him.

Ideally we pick up one of Shanahan or Barrat, otherwise Dennis or Bell to get more cover in KPD posts.

I like Davis but I’m a bit concerned we need some better distributors.

Would live to see us get Knobel late. Otherwise Dodson, but he’ll go higher. It certainly seems like the answer to our ruck problems isn’t on the list currently.

I'm tired and quite a bit pissed off not being able to trade back in for anything remotely reasonable. We went hard to upgrade to GWS 3rd pick.

Essendon dogged us as per ****ing usual.

Richmond said don't bother unless it was basically what they got from North.

Swans didn't want to talk.

Dogs wanted our future first straight up for 20.

Overview,
disappointing missing out on jagga at 3, comes across as a consumate professional, but that's in the past. Very glad we picked Allan over Reid, absolute crazy rich picking hotton that early saved our bacon.

Tomorrow,
30 - I think we go another speedy player Davis, Moraes, Ough, Hayes etc. The lure to bring shanahan or Whitlock in will be strong but I'd hold off till 44 for our kpb

44 - Dennis, Ofarrel, Nichols, Barrat, Bell. Kpb at this pick should be a few around still

Malakai bid

If theirs a chance wouldn't mind Artemis either
