Most of the phantom drafts in the media have Reid going before our pick. The only one I’ve read that doesn’t is the Age which has Reid sliding to around pick 20 - but they then have Richmond taking Shanahan

So the end result is either Allan or Lindsay has still been on the board for us making the most likely result that either one of them will be an Eagle- albeit that choice will be made for us as only one will be there not both

So pick 3 becomes Allan/Lindsay and Baker - time will tell how damaging that decision eventually becomes.

With Lalor and Tauru firming as picks 1 and 2, we would have had the choice between Smith, Draper, Smillie, Langford or O’Sullivan. I’d be interested in which one of those posters here would have chosen
FOS hands down. Will be a star. Mcgluggage type. Filthy we won't get him if he slides to 3

He ended up with a good career, but he wasn't that A-grader you hope to get at #3. The whole draft year was rubbish.

Dunno about that. The top 5 wasn't the best

Picks 10-20 were pretty bloody good though. Dangerfield, Rioli, Taylor and Rance all went along with Grimes, Ebert, Tarrant and Ward

FOS or Draper in that order

If the new coach isn't watching the last 10 games of the season he shouldn't be in the job
As soon as it was known the HC position was available he was analyzing the list and games to figure out a plan.
He was all over it, hence why he killed the interview and blew everyone away.
So looking forward to see what changes he implements both positional and gamestyle.
Would have to say it will have a little influence on who we target in the draft as well.

Are people seriously writing off Hutchinson already??? 🤣🤣🤣
Hasn't even done an AFL preseason yet has he?
All his preseasons where just Amo's and then a VFL one last year, I would think anyway.
BODEs well for his commitment and work rate to get to an AFL level in the time he did.

Yep, Palmer was a spud. McManus proportions. DEFCON 1.

Palmer looked like a million bucks in his first couple seasons. Legit gun, as demonstrated in that Derby in his second game when he had like 24 disposals and polled a brownlow vote.

Then he broke Barlows leg and well...... slowly morphed into Cale Morton 🥔

At the stage where I'm ok with any of TT, Allan or Lindsay. All are good to very good choices at 12.

Trading down again I don't get. Surely there are other ways to generate another later pick or two?

I do hope for my sanity's sake all three of those players aren't there at 12, meaning we could have had two of those three with 12 and 14 had we played hardball on Baker (i.e. apologies, we're in a rebuild, you can have pick 23).

Agree. Allan fits a clear need.
I think the focus needs to be on quality rather than "filling a need". There's no point stocking the midfield with B graders because "we need midfielders". We need elite midfielders (It's not the same thing).

Allan might end up like Jordan Dawson. Or Dom Sheed. I don't buy that he's a HBF. I think he's either an A grade or B grade mid.

I'd rather take Lindsay. It's early in our build, but if he hangs around until we get good, could punish a lot of teams. I think he's likely to offer more quality.

Is this something you think happened or have heard from someone/somewhere?

Genuine question btw as it’s not something I’ve seen previously

Dunno about the other stuff but I recall him saying in one of his interviews that he'd extensively studied the list once he knew he was going to apply for it. Knowing Clarke obviously helped his cause.

McQualter himself said something along those lines. Also confirmed he was in contact with Clark and they were bouncing ideas of one another.

Allan really would suit us more than anybody in that 13-17 part of the draft. Half back or mid he fills a need.

Accumulation isn't really worth skipping what's clearly a great talent
Oh course it is. Accumulation is a big deal.

If Ginbey could accumulate he would have stayed in middle.

Bo Allen is rotham replacement. That's all he ever will be bookmark it

You're melting again....I'd say you're doing a rotham even.

They're nothing alike as players. Aside from the fact one was drafted a key position players the other as a mid/flanker, Allan/en is tough as nails, rotham shat the bed.

I think Allan most resembles Brayden Maynard in style and physical attributes (perhaps with more endurance)

This is Maynards Rookie Me profile pre draft https://central.rookieme.com/afl/2014/08/09/2014-draft-profile-brayden-maynard/ .

The profile looks very similar to Allans'.

Maynard is a decent enough player (but not what we really need).
