Surely there's no chance Murphy Reid makes it to pick 12, or 15 on the night. He's been ranked within the top ten pretty much all year. I actually hope Bo Allen is available at our pick, can't see any of the top midfielders sliding to our pick
Well I reckon Allen goes pick 9-10 and Murphy Reid just under Taj Hotton at pick 13

Yeah, and odds on it won't involve a Vic kid.
It wasn't that long ago every Vic fan was booing Jason Horne-Francis every time he played.

A projected (non Academy or f/s) top two or three pick from one of NSW, QLD, SA, or WA refusing to leave their home state get the AFL off their asses quick smart.

The Vic media will go in to an uproar, but the AFL will do sfa, because to do anything will impact all the Vic kids who want to stay home.

Been going over the Joe Berry videos again, he seems very Gulden like at times.
Really clean first touch, which I'm a sucker for.
Loved Gulden in his draft year, was a gun and a shock he went so late in that year.
Gulden accumulated big numbers in u18s, Berry more 16 to 18 disposals but all high quality.

More likely the AFL will punish the one instance it annoys some Vic clubs and ignore it when it happens the other way

But I like your optimism 😉

I’m comparing trade cost and likely future output as an Eagle. Total goals 22yo 13 games, two of which were the sub vs 27yo playing 23 games is a pointless comparison.

What was the trade cost? Given the reported trade cost of 2 and what the Giants rejected for 3, Owies was essentially free anyway, don't get the angst about that. It was the price of Baker that was the issue if we want to get into it

And he's an undoubtedly much better player than Emmett.

He wasn’t free. Realistically he cost us two picks that will end up in the late 40s (one maybe early 50s) which is still a great spot in this draft. That’s assuming 3 was for 12 and 14.

No argument that Owies is the better player at the moment, but he’s not a better option than having the players we would have got with those picks. Going to be the Freijah and F41 for Hall moment of this draft.

If it's not a WA or SA kid, it's most likely going to be a Gold Coast Suns academy kid, when the Suns make finals and can't match all their academy kids, and one of their kids says he wants to stay on the GC.

I’m with most on here in hoping Travaglia falls to our pick. However, the more I see of Lindsay (as an armchair expert), the more I think he’d be just as good of a pick up. Has 200 gamer written all over him. He won’t be the glamorous midfield superstar that we might have got with Pick 3 but he could be just as important in the team (and an obvious need). Has all the traits to be an above average modern day winger/half back.

Taj Hotton talking about his ACL and briefly what his year looked like

The last paragraph

"I've learned about my optimism and my way to find the light in bad situations. I hadn't really faced much adversity in my footy and I struggled with it early, but I managed to find my light and pushed my attention to how I could make it a good thing," he said. "I'd be happy to go anywhere."

He wouldn’t be the worst selection at our pick

Where is Hotton expected to play in our team? He's barely 3 midfield games, and that was against kids in the Coates league.

Blokes got obvious talent, but last thing we want is a weird medium forward type when we desperately need a pure midfielder in the guts to support/develop with Harley. (INB4 Ryan Gosling pops up to tell us our midfield is awesome as it is with a broken Yeo and Kelly who already aren't up to scratch and only getting older)

Hotton looks a very 'midfield potential' selection which we all know can, and has backfired in our face before.

Add in
  • Coming back from a serious injury
  • Hasn't played much football
  • Hasn't tested in the draft combine

And suddenly it looks like a familiar story, with a fair bit of risk we probably don't need to be taking, particularly over someone like Lindsay.

I don't dislike the pick, just playing devils advokent.

I watched one Lindsay highlight package after reading this and will now melt if we don't draft him

Kid did his ACL? Oh you best believe West Coast are SALIVATING over this guy

If only we had 12+14.

TT/Reid/Hotton/Linsday/Langford/Berry or any combo there of would have been a beautiful thing

Do you really believe him?

Taj is not an idiot to state it openly but he word has been out that he is dead set wanting a VIC club.

I’m hearing St Kilda might be looking to auction off their live pick 8 if one of their targets are off the board which I think are Reid and Travaglia. What are we prepared to pay (if anything) for it if it means getting a sliding Smillie or Langford? Options would include:

F1
12 + F2
12 + 26 + F3 with 32 coming back

Freo have also asked the Dogs about pick 25, that would indicate to me that they are trying to get ahead of a target we have at 26. I suspect that is Hamish Davis.
Hmmm, that's tough.
Guess it depends who else is still in the board as if we keep 12, what combo do we take.
For our F1 I'm not sure whether I'd use it for either of those two unless their F2 was involved. If it was Sid Draper I'd use it.
Maybe try use 26 and Hawks F1.
I'm probably more interested in Smillie than Langford.

A lot can change at that age. Maybe being stuck in rehab for a year has opened his eyes to just wanting to play footy and not caring where. Going through adversity can make you grow up a bit

Staying in Melbourne hasn’t done much for his brothers career either - Olli Hotton on the verge of being delisted as he’s still not been offered a contract yet

In this draft, only one of the 11 live picks before ours belong to a non-Victorian club so if Hotton, or any of the other Victorian lads get to our pick they’ll have been overlooked 10 times by a team in their state. And more than once by 3 or 4 clubs

So he might just be a bit more pragmatic about leaving

That said, ideally he is picked before 12 as it would mean the chances of someone better suited to us gets through

Will have two bingo cards on draft night - one with the names I want called out and one with the names I don’t. Hotton will be on the first card but as I said, it’s not the worst outcome if we do draft him
