He'll be there because he is a terrible kick.

Hard pass - a lot of better suited prospects in that range (H.Davis, C. Dennis and most likely Josh Smillie)

I agree and I'm also a big fan of Loch - he's that Brayden Maynard type and definitely worth a late/rookie pick.

Clancy Dennis is no brainer as well.

Cody Angove... Luke Breust type forward? More upside than Hamish Davis?

Angrove looks good but really all these kids who have only really played colts its very hard to tell. But my feeling is for these WA prospects, based on the 2-3 minutes of footage I've seen of them I say draft them all. It's the patriotic thing to do.

Either way, it's all the more reason why we should pony up a couple future picks (Hawks F2/F3, Our F2/F3) to get back into the top 30 this year and grab another selection. Lots still to like in the 25-40 range.

Keyser's suggestion with Essendons picks looks a no brainer.

I'm still baffled we handed over 63 and 68 in that dumb Baker/Owies trade as well. As if we hadn't coughed up enough.

I'm not sure how many points we need next year to match f/s and academy picks though, plus ideally we drive a hard bargain on Warner and try get away with paying only a first and a second or 2 seconds or else we are not going to have much of a draft next year. Happy to keep whatever we need for Banfield next year and let Wally go through to the keeper if it means taking a kid/s in that 30-40s range this year instead.

As it stands we have 2 firsts next year and will probably miss out on one or both of Rodreigez and Curtin, and if we come back into this draft using future picks then that'll probably cost us an academy selection. Unless of course we do something epically dumb like splitting up a top 10 pick for a bunch of picks to spend on matching.

Assuming we trade with the Bombers after a bid on Kako (28,31,46 for F2 x 2 and our F3) this is how I see the draft unfolding for us noting that we may need to trade 26 for the Bombers F2 as part of the deal. There’s a couple of picks that could have gone either way but they address what in my view are our greatest needs of outside mids, KPDs, a specialist rebounding HBF and winger.

Pick Prefer Likely Backup

28 O’FarrellBarratMraz

For anyone that’s particularly interested RMC should publish their comprehensive draft analysis tomorrow, I’ll post a link when it comes online.

What does that leave us with next year? Our f1, Hawks f1, Bombers f2, Hawks f3?

I think melb go 2 mids, Clayton is a liability who they'd like to get some capital for and viney getting old

Saints, a classy mid (Reid, lindsay) and a key forward or Travaglia/tauru

Do Melbourne also take a bet each way a mid and a tall though?

That's the best outcome for us.

Dees, Saints and North each take one tall before our pick 12.

I have a sneaky suspicion that WCE will take Hotton at Pick 12 if he’s available at that pick ..
He hasn’t been invited to the Draft night so suggests he will be taken somewhere after the Top 10 picks..

Don't mind this if our top priorities are gone. We've already brought in some decent role players; Hotton is a risk, but could be elite.

They prob should but if I'm them I'm getting 2 mids this year then trading out Oliver for a first round pick next year before he goes walkabout and they lose all his capital. Hopefully shanahan and trainor get picked before our 12(15) that leaves us some handy mid sliders

Because I’d be surprised if we hadn’t already asked as it makes sense for both clubs and we’ve got good connections to the Bombers through Rosa and Vozzo. Will come down to what other teams are prepared to offer but the Bombers will trade both those picks.

Agree it makes sense, I just wouldn't plan on it or get the hopes up unless we actually hear anything about it.

Tangentially, I wonder if there's some sort of implicit jostling between us and Port; keep hearing reports about them being into the same players as us (Travaglia, Hynes, maybe Hotton), and there's also rumours they're trying to move up to pick 10/11.

Hopefully it's like that year everyone melted down because Geelong got Cockatoo before us and we had to settle for Duggan.

Having said that, "the next Duggan" isn't exactly what we need at this stage of the rebuild. But likely the quality of player that's available at that pick.

And by way of contrast, that year pick 3 was Angus Brayshaw.

That’s why you don’t trade away pick 3 when you have it.

Massive drop off in quality going from low single digit numbers to double digit.

No matter what spin the Club try’s to manufacture and tell us - trading out pick 3 for 12 and 14 was an absolutely fu(king stupid move.

As much as I do like Travaglia or Allen and Lindsay…….. it pails into insignificance compared to how much I prefer to be picking from FOS, Draper and Smith.

Just saying. 🤷‍♂️

100% and if Obeanie1 wants to label us bedwetters then so be it.

We done ****ed up the Baker trade.
