If WC had've landed Carroll, there would have been a moan about collecting more hand-me-downs, and because we didn't pursue/land him, WC have been derelict in its efforts to secure a fringe player delisted by Carlton.....gotta' love these forums.
Yeah its almost like people have different opinions

I've been playing around with some mock draft combinations and until more rumours start filtering through, this is how I can see it playing out:

1. RICH - Lalor
2. NM - Tauru
3. CARL - FOS
4. ADEL - Draper
5. MELB - Langford
6. RICH - Smillie
7. STK - Smith
8. STK - Travaglia
9. MELB - Allan
10. RICH - Armstrong
11. RICH - Hotton
12. WCE - Lindsay

However, I do suspect the Tigers and North will settle on a deal along the lines of 6 and 11 for 2 and F1, as reported in the media. In which case:

1. RICH - Lalor
2. RICH - FOS
3. CARL - Draper
4. ADEL - Langford
5. MELB - Smith
6. NM - Tauru
7. STK - Smillie
8. STK - Travaglia
9. MELB - Allan
10. RICH - Armstrong
11. NM - Whitlock/Shanahan/Trainor
12. WCE - Lindsay

Need a team above us to take a Caruso-esque liking to Berry, a slight risk on Hotton, or an un-Norf like desire for a tall for us to have a crack at Travaglia or Allan. However, I'm struggling to see how they get through.
But the good news is Lindsay will likely be available anyway and he looks great, otherwise I'm actually quite confident that Murphy Reid will be an option, too. Unless the go-home factor is a major concern, I'd love to see us select him.
Geez, I'm taking Murphy Reid if he's available.

I was stirring the pot. It's not a shithole.

It's a different/slower place that doesn't appeal to a lot of people in their 20's

Supporting Evidence: I left Perth at 24 for Sydney and found it way better. Every time i come back I jut get the vibe of country town comparatively. Having spent plenty of time in Melbourne i can confirm Melbourne is also way cooler.
lol this is me

Left at 24. Melbourne, Sydney, London now settled in Sydney

I struggle every time I go back to Perth

There really wouldn't.

He's surprisingly a delisted free agent that's had 4 years of development and loads of potential upside to come, and it would've been absolutely free without costing us anything.

Not sure anyone would've complained about his acquisition, even if he turned out to be a average and punted in 2 years time.

Those sorts of list additions are exactly the ones the club needs to be making, particularly when you've got a draft hand as shit as ours.

Agreed, and I think he will be as clubs are concerned about his capacity as a full-time mid due to his lack of size and speed. Aside from that he looks a gem. However, even if he’s available I have a bad feeling we won’t take the risk due to perceived go-home factor.

But ultimately, I’m still crossing my fingers that he does get picked up earlier and that Travaglia or Allan make it to our selection. Happy with Lindsay too, or a surprise slider but I just can’t see the likes of Smillie and Smith getting past Richmond at 10 and 11.

People struggle to understand that Perth is a bit of a shithole compared to Melbourne and Sydney especially, and even struggles against Brisbane.

As someone who has lived and raised a family in two of those other cities that you mention.
I think your idea of a shit hole needs some development, either that or you never ventured into Broadmeadows, Altona, Springvale, Bankstown, Fairfield and Doonside.

Plus- Driving round in the East States Capital cities is a nightmare.

Can understand the appeal of Sydney and Melbourne to younger folks who haven't been too many other places, but Perth is far from a shit place to live

Also you're having a laugh with Brisbane 😉

Correct! I live a stones throw from Sydney cbd in one of the most beautiful suburbs in the world so my experience probably is more conducive to good.

West Coast would not be an appealing choice for mids at the moment. One is there a spot available and two what role will you be used in.

So the 5 mids that get picked around the ball include - Graham, Yeo, Kelly, Reid and Baker. Now Baker could be used in other roles but the 1st 4 are always going to play. The real problem is that 3 of those 4 have zero defensive run, and as we have seen the 5th mid which was Ginbey early then Duggan later in the year was just a defensive role filling gaps around the ball and on the wings. Gimp wing is a career killer, young players and mature players alike have fallen apart out there.

Now there is a new coach and hopefully change but if I was a player I would only come to West Coast if they were paying me money that no other club would - Hunt + Flynn or if I had a close relationship to the new coach - Graham + Baker. Owies is an interesting one I am not sure how much West Coast are paying him but with the likes of Ryan, an ageing Cripps, Petch and Brockman he could find himself doing all the work that these players can't / won't do.

Why?

Because Dees need inside mids. Viney is over 30, Oliver looks cooked off and on field and Petracca is nearing 30.

They are also stockpiling a number of quality WA players that traditionally do well.

PLUS a certain Victorian player in WA may look for a trade in coming years.
Actually both Allan and Travaglia are known for their work off half-back, but also have the attributes to move into the midfield either as part of a rotation or a permanently.

Plus he costs no draft picks, only issue if he turned out to be a bust and we gave him too long a contract to beat Carlton to his signature.

I'll match you with Fitzroy Crossing or Halls Creek

I am not disagreeing with you. However, if so many of the Eagles' Big footy members think Travaglia is better than Allan and Travaglia is Victorian, why Melbourne will draft Allan and not Travaglia

Tbh, in my scenario it’s more likely St Kilda take Travaglia rather than Armstrong so Melbourne don’t even get a choice. But if they do there’s a lot to like about Allan and some rankings have him ahead of Travaglia - the main knock on Allan here is he’s too similar to Ginbey

I was more trying to put together a plausible draft progression that results in Travaglia lasts to our pick. What I posted I think is improbable but not impossible

Reality is that on the night, one (and only one) of Lindsay, Allan or Reid will be left on the board at our pick but I’ve no idea which one. And Travaglia will most likely be gone

I know both Perth and Melbourne very well. I think it’s more relevant to say Perth is a long way from the heart of football. And indeed isn’t said to be ’the most isolated capital in the world’?

If you don’t like Perth you only got the SW as a feasible alternative. The whole SE of Australia is in fairly easy reach of Melbourne - Adelaide, Barossa, Tasmania, Sydney, all Victoria and all the country in between. That’s a lot of diversity.

Makes Perth a hard sell. Even for WA players. I’m guessing (??) more WA players remain in SE Australia than vice versa.

Sad but true for the WA clubs.

Don't forget ST Marys.
I asked a hostie once where she lived and she said Western Sydney. My reply was that's not Sydney.
She wasn't too happy. Everybody thinks of Sydney like the opera house, The Hanger and eastern suburbs and North shore.
The reality is a lot of very average areas west and south west.

my post about Perth being a shithole stirred the pot. Want to clarify based on my experience.

Living in the suburbs of Perth at home with parents, then getting drafted (only case finishing uni) and moving interstate and living in cool suburbs, with income, meeting new friends etc, can make moving back to Perth when all you’ve known is the burbs, very very hard. There’s a reason players who’ve spent years building a new network, living a cool life that isn’t school/uni, don’t want to move back.

Of course for some who haven’t settled they will move back, but many won’t

Such a even draft will make it really difficult to know who is going where. I guess we can only know the day before the draft when Cal Twomey published the mock draft based on the information obtained from the recruiters.
