So lots of club apologists on here say how all we have to do is build the floor, recruit a few free agents and then we a back in the game. Jack Carroll gave us the finger and went to St Kilda. Think about that. Y

Literally noone is saying "all we have to do is build the floor"

I totally agree that the WAFL Eagles are a shambles, and I know this probably belongs in the media thread, but ...

For the West to say "the struggling West Coast WAFL team, who have claimed the wooden spoon every year since joining the league four years ago" is either disingenuous or inept, when the Eagles WAFL side joined the competition six years ago, finished fourth and won a final in their first season, before missing the shortened 2020 season due to pandemic matters - and have then had the run of four wooden spoons.

That doesn't change the fact that the WAFL Eagles set up, as it is currently working, seems to harm rather than help our player development and AFL side.

There really wouldn't.

He's surprisingly a delisted free agent that's had 4 years of development and loads of potential upside to come, and it would've been absolutely free without costing us anything.

Not sure anyone would've complained about his acquisition, even if he turned out to be a average and punted in 2 years time.

Those sorts of list additions are exactly the ones the club needs to be making, particularly when you've got a draft hand as shit as ours.
WOuld have been far better than the three acquisitions we have actually made

However a few of you are suggesting that's what the club should do. Obviously we need too do more. However building the floor or the middle before the top end is where clubs like St kilda end up.

Well no youve just misunderstood

I have suggested I can see what the club is trying to do and I kind of get the logic in an even draft to trade down and how it might not be the disaster it's being portrayed as on here.

If it was up to me with my very limited knowledge on this year's draft I would not have made the trades the club did. But there was some logic behind it and just maybe the people being paid to do this might know more than the nuffies on here. There's just more to it than simple draft pick numbers

We'll find out in a few years

Won't matter who we draft if the development and pathways in the AFL reserves aren't there.

It's been a joke since the Beagles entered, and it doesn't appear to be getting any better.

For the development of our young draftees, I hope we fold that shit and start spreading the talent around the actual competitive WAFL clubs.

I am baffled as to what our strategy is for the draft.
We have six main list spots available and we haven't bagged a DFA.
So are we going to use six picks in the draft and how do we get better picks in this draft.
We use some picks in the rookie draft.
Do we have train on players to fill out the list.
I don't mind missing out on Carroll but could we have picked up Parfitt or someone else.

Who knows? Clarke knows.

We will find pick 3-type players with pick 96. Just ask him.

As long as his promise to Richmond is kept, that’s all that matters. Does he know he has become a laughing stock?

We are all now counting the days till he is sent packing. Pyke can go too, he hasn’t exactly shown over journey as a person who makes good decisions.

Thank f worsfold is there for common sense.

Improving the bottom 6 of our B22 is super important & good list management. But it's far from the only thing we need to do.

I was stirring the pot. It's not a shithole.

It's a different/slower place that doesn't appeal to a lot of people in their 20's

Supporting Evidence: I left Perth at 24 for Sydney and found it way better. Every time i come back I jut get the vibe of country town comparatively. Having spent plenty of time in Melbourne i can confirm Melbourne is also way cooler.

Farken urban sprawl to blame

I wonder if we even talked to Carrol. Seems weird that we have been all about raising our floor and getting competitiion for spots this offseason but didn't persue Carrol. We lack depth in the middle and we have a bunch of list spots with SFA draft picks so its not like we couldn't accommodate him.
Maybe he was too young for us....
Either that or we can't even woo a WA delisted free agent home and he actually preferred to go to the Saints.

The way this offseason is going I won't be surprised when we offer a 30year old Clurey a list spot.

It’s almost like we are being punished for being the arrogant toffs the Dockers supporters accused us of being for the last 2.5 decades.

In fact this last month or so, I have felt like a CNN political commentator about the time Pennsylvania was called for Trump…… disbelief, recriminations and a not knowing whether I am Arthur, Martha or indeterminate.

Lived in Rural WA most of my life before moving to Perth 16 years ago. Born in Kal. Lived in Mt Magnet, Yalgoo, Paynes Find, Meekatharra, Cue, Laverton, Norseman, Esperance, Coolgardie, Roebourne, Geraldton, Jurien Bay and Three Springs. Can honestly say I enjoyed just about every one of those towns.

as to the Draft I would be comfortable with Lindsay or Travaglia as our 1st pick.

Roebourne being the just about?

Only pub I’ve been to where the live band was caged in.

Correct! I live a stones throw from Sydney cbd in one of the most beautiful suburbs in the world so my experience probably is more conducive to good.
You come across as a jerk. Dismissing Perth as a “shithole” and then dropping your humblebrag about living in “one of the world’s most beautiful suburbs”.

You’re not the only person who’s lived around the world or the country. For such a “shithole” it seems there’s a hell of a lot of people clamouring to get here.

Boring people get bored. If you can’t enjoy yourself in Perth it says more about you than it does about the city.

Having lived in Newtown, Glebe and Coogee between 20010-2018, I can definitely say that Sydney isn’t “better” than Perth. Different isn’t better. It’s bigger, more expensive, takes longer to drive everywhere, but has a flashy new metro, more bars, a gentrified party strip and lots of Tech bro’s on coke.

Perth also isn’t boring. Like. That’s just lazy.

Guys. I was being provocative.

I’m also a dad in my 40’s. What I might like is different from a footy player in his early 20’s.

My point with all the trolling removed is that Melbourne and Sydney have attributes that make it so that it’s not a lock that a WA boy will want to “come home” when they are young.

Melbourne especially given the multiple options in terms of other footy clubs. Carroll is an example.

Wow you've made it life🥱

Since this is a pissing contest.

I've lived
Perth born raised until 1992
Sydney 92-2000
Uk 2000-05
Brazil Argentina 06
Canada 07
USA 07-11
Mexico 12
Melbourne 12-24

And I can unequivocally say that you couldn't pay me enough to ever live in Sydney again. During my time in Sydney I lived in double bay, Maroubra, Lidcombe and oatley. There were days where it took me longer to get from Maroubra into the city than it did from Oatley to Lidcombe. As far as dysfunctioning rat races go with unfriendly 'look at me look at me kimmy' people it's one of - if not the worst of the 34 cities I've lived in.

As for Perth, you just can't beat it. There isn't a city on the planet that offers the lifestyle that Perth does. A few kind of come close, San Diego, Miami, and Rio de jenero spring to mind, except for the muggings drugs, cartels and shootings!!

West Coast would not be an appealing choice for mids at the moment. One is there a spot available and two what role will you be used in.

So the 5 mids that get picked around the ball include - Graham, Yeo, Kelly, Reid and Baker. Now Baker could be used in other roles but the 1st 4 are always going to play. The real problem is that 3 of those 4 have zero defensive run, and as we have seen the 5th mid which was Ginbey early then Duggan later in the year was just a defensive role filling gaps around the ball and on the wings. Gimp wing is a career killer, young players and mature players alike have fallen apart out there.

Now there is a new coach and hopefully change but if I was a player I would only come to West Coast if they were paying me money that no other club would - Hunt + Flynn or if I had a close relationship to the new coach - Graham + Baker. Owies is an interesting one I am not sure how much West Coast are paying him but with the likes of Ryan, an ageing Cripps, Petch and Brockman he could find himself doing all the work that these players can't / won't do.
Yeh nah.

Kelly should be on the wing.
Yeo at half back
Baker as pinch hitting swing man in and out of the mids.
Sheeds cooked.
Ginbey maybe
Chesser no
Hall maybe
Hewett who knows

Graham and reid yes.

There is plenty of opportunity to cement a spot.
