He's a flanker, both back and forward, who spends short spells in the middle.

He's a goer and we'll enjoy watching him play for us. Will just be tinged with sadness when we see pick 3 running around or pick 14 running around.

We do need to all move on at some stage though. The past is past. Those picks aren't coming back
Too late. He will always be remembered as the guy we gave up pick 3 for.

It will taint his time at WC and any poor performance or big loss will be directed at him. I still don't see why

Never moving on . Was a cluster **** of a trade period .

WTF were they thinking ?

The days of west coast being industry leaders is over .

We are a shambles both on and off the field

There was also something about the Sydney trade we did that forced the AFL to amend the rules to stop what Sydney did
It was the pick hiding by the Swans to use later picks on Blakey then get back into the second round. They introduced the rule that a pick couldn’t be traded back to the same team in the same trade period. They got James Rowbottom out of it who along with Bobby Hill were the players I’d hoped we were looking at before we (again) decided to slide our pick.

All this talk about us bedwetting when clarke & pyke were the bedwetters trading out pick 3 for a half back flanker.

Unfortunately for baker the pressure is on him to perform, but he looks up for it so I think this will all quell down once the season starts (hopefully).

We will still be comparing him to the best available player at pick 3, and whether pick 12 is a acceptable consolation prize.

The Sydney trade involved different picks as well though, it wasn’t the same pick that came to us that we then traded back to Sydney. They were separate picks, the same as what’s being discussed with Essendon

Agreed, we are a bit of a shambles at the moment but you're only hurting yourself if you can't move on.

What's done is done. Agitate for change (if you can/have any power), otherwise now look to the future with what we have, otherwise you'll be living in bitterness and it won't do you any good.

I protest with my wallet . Its the only way they will listen IMO

I passed on my memberships x 2 a few years back and only go to games when I get free tickets which is 4-5 games a year

They are making it very hard to love this club ATM .

If we fail to re-sign Harley i think the club will be in a lot of trouble .

Yeah man, you passing up 2x memberships isn't going to send much of a message, aye.

Yep. They came back in two picks earlier (24) from us. If they hadn’t changed the rule as a result of that we could have just done F2 for 28 from Essendon then swapped it back after the bid and we could have worked out separately what we would be paid for that help. Even if that rule change was in place in 2018 we still could have done that deal with Sydney.

I think Baker will play a variety of roles for Mini

We need to get over tradikg pick 14

Dont forget we were heavily invested in Baker before Mini got here, there is a level of concern around the leadership on and off the field of our mature players. Baker has been and to a certain extent Graham have been bought in for a reason, to to make us more competitive but also bring a level of maturity and professionalism (minus bakes speech)
Part of that professionalism probably should’ve been at training yesterday. Paid high price because that’s what he demanded. If being a professional was the big part of his sell, he should’ve been there. Graham got married and is on his honey moon so gets a pass. Perryman and Houston but at ten Pies training yesterday

I just feel maric being pretty much the best kick we have in the team getting the ball in his hand as much as possible would be a good thing.

Being 196cms we could utilise his height defensively , he could take 3rd tall and designated kicker duties .

We really are full up forward atm with Allen, jake , Jwilliams and then you have Archer Reid needing games eventually
Maric should 100% be loose behind the ball in a Sicily type role. Not sure how his intercept marking is but having the best kick in the team hiding out on a wing isn’t ideal. Get him the ball down back to unlock opposition defences.

We did something similar with Sydney in 2018 around the Blakey bid

Got pick 26 off Sydney for our F3 pre-bid

Then gave them back 24 for their F2 post bid

So we traded down from 24 to 26 whilst upgrading our F3 to their F2

Have to bear in mind that Essendon will likely have other suitors for picks 28 and 31 that might well be better than ours even if we offer it

Just as long as we get another pick in that 30-50 range somehow

Edit : In 2017 we also traded our F1 pick (that many at the time thought would be a top 10 pick) to Gold Coast for their F2 pick and a trio of R2 picks that brought us Allen, Ryan and Petruccelle.
The issue with Essendon and trade partners is to buy and sell in the same market.

I am certain Essendon could get better options for 28 and 31 than what eaglevision and I have been proposing. The problem is there are few who can trade a better pick (26) without the Dons paying a huge premium. It could even require them giving up one of their 2 x F1.

That might be fine if they do a deal with Tigers, Sydney or GWS but they will all be late teen to 20’s picks.

I proposed it on the Drug Rats board and a couple responded that our buying price was too low but they were ok with the selling price. Their more astute posters (and they do have some) realised the benefit and thought the deal had credibility

At the Kako bid - WC F2 and WC F3 for 28 and 31
Post Kako bid - 26 for Ess F2

I genuinely hope that it is only an online persona of negativity of some on this platform, because if they are like this in their real lives, then I feel for everyone they come in to contact with in their daily lives.
The relentlessness of negative opinions based on at best guesswork and hypotheticals, you'd think would get exhausting, but nope every time I come on this site there are people whinging about what happened at the draft and trade period a couple of weeks ago, the game plan prior to seeing it, the changes made off field, players not being back on track when they are not scheduled to be etc, How will you enjoy footy ever again, or have you never.........
I get that dealing with change can take some a longer time then others, but seriously doesn't it get exhausting being negative every time you write something.
Reminds me of Roy Kent when he quit Sky Sports in Ted Lasso -

"All we do is sit around here and guess what a bunch of little pri**s are going to do out there, then we come back at half time and we complain because they didn't do exactly what we thought they'd do.......we don't know.....cause were not in the locker room with them, were not on the pitch with them, we can't look them in the eye and encourage them to be better then they ever thought they were capable of being....We're just on the outside, looking in....Judging them......

If we get back into the draft and nab any two of Lindsay, Allan or TT (throw in Reid as well I suppose) and all it costs is somehow the Hawks f1 and f2 I'd be fairly ok with that.

Hate to put AFL and Meat Loaf in the same sentence … but you took the words right out of my mouth.

Thinking we’re going to trade what on a good case is a pick 10ish and somewhere around 40 in a draft not as deep for a pick 8-14 in a deep draft seems optimistic though.
