I still find it staggering that Hawthorn traded pick 14, F1, F2 & F3 for Carlton F1, F2, Barrass & WC F4.
If Carlton & Hawthorn's future picks are treated as a similar value (i.e. they are both finals contenders & positions are impossible to predict), then they essentially traded pick 14 & F3 for TB & F4.
Pretty shrewd trading by Hawthorn to give up a lot less than what we would've asked for. We reportedly wouldn't accept pick 14 on its own and wanted more.
Based on this idea, they ended up only giving up an extra pick in their F3 and got our F4 back.

Presumably based on reports. even up to the last minute they were still trying to get us to accept only F1 & F2 for F3.
We probably came out of it thinking we had a win by getting them to up the offer to F1, F2 & F3 for F4.

I hate the insinuation that Hawthorn traded their entire 2025 draft hand as they still hold Carlton's F1 & F2 which could potentially be higher than theirs.

Hawks traded their original 2025 1st 2nd and 3rd for Barrass and a F4th.

That was the trade.

So basically traded I out their original 2025 picks for Barrass.

And traded their 2024 14 for the Blues F1st and 2nd to get back into 2025. A separate deal.

They paid overs for Barrass.

They recouped some of it with the Blues pick swap.

And just how compromised the draft becomes once all the concessions pile on.

CR I don’t get as triggered by the compromised drafts as some others do.

I essentially have two draft boards, one that we all have access to and another that the favoured few get access to.

The only compromised bit that does piss me off, is the AFL assigning compensation picks like McKay and Battle the past two years.

Going into next year we already know that SYD and GC have access to two prospective round one quality Academy kids ,each.

For what it’s worth the first round kids that we can select from next years looks pretty good IMO , for our F1 and F2 and the Hawks F1.

Way to early for me to assess the quality of the 2025 cohort, other than to say there will be more quality WA kids in the mix next year than the last few years and that in itself may lend to a deep draft pool.
Plus we already know that we have access to Banfield, Walley and Evans by way of the FS and NGA.

I do like the looks of both Freddy Rodriguez and Cody Curtin in the range for where we may hold 2025 draft picks.

If we could get three to four good picks off in next years draft, before we had to match any bids on the three players mentioned above, then, I would think that would be a seriously good draft haul.

What one of the real benefits that you get from knowing the access that you have to FS and NGA kids, is that it helps you shape your draft and trading strategy more specifically, when deciding positions to address and player types.
For example us knowing that we would end up with a wingman ( Banfield ) and a couple of mid sized forwards / utility players ( Walley & Evans ), then allows us to pick up a few more talls earlier in the draft, to round out our positional needs.
Therefore getting a better composition of type players in the draft haul.

That’s a poor read on Reid.

He has had a fantastic season. Absolute class around the ball, didn’t play VFL like Jagga but outperformed him at the Championships and equally dangerous at Coates league.
It's probably more of a drive by on the club than Reid tbh. When you overlook pick 3 (draper/fos/Smith) a sure thing and come back into the draft at 15 imo you really don't want to be chasing players like Reid and Hotton who are a while away from developing. Reid has class but we don't know how all that will translate at senior footy especially all those quirky tricks and we really dont have the time to wait for him to develop. At our first pick I'd like to think TT, Lindsay and even Allan come in round 1 and make an impact.

Ooh F*** pick 3!! Oh my God we’ve blown it ! Pick 3 is gunna be a legend! I’m gunna spew! No no no! Aaagghhh!
Baker aaaaarrrggh!
We are gone we won’t play finals till 2030!
It’s the end of everything!
What a mob of WHINGERs!
Look forward not back it’s too late to do anything but irritate people with constant whining!
We have a first class forward line.
We are a fit ruckman off having a gold standard midfield!
Defence can have Yo along with Ginbey, Gov, and YES Baker! Not bad. Duggan,Cole and Hunt, HEd,in there.
Some of you people are so busy crying you can’t see what’s building right in front of your eyes!!
Great post to username correlation there

Or main draft pick 81,99,117 if another club doesn't pick him up.
means we have 1 less pick in the main draft . I'm still hoping for 4 picks + malakai in the main draft.

There are some really good players that will be still available 30 - 60

If we could do the essendon trade of
F2 wce for 28 + 31
Then after kako bid
F2 ess for 26

The hawks f3 for late 40s pick we can use live so not swallowed up by malakai bid

Out gaff darling barrass Jones rotham witherden ledwards culley * trew *

In Baker, Graham, owies

pick 12 TT , xavier Lindsay, bo Allan

pick 28 olli Hannaford, Hamish Davis , harrison Oliver

Pick 31 Hamish Davis , Angus Clarke , Hugh Boxshall

Pick 40s Clancy Dennis , luke Urquhart

NGA malakai

Rookie pick knobel

Sheed retires in Burgeil SSP

None of them are sure things no player is, maybe Harley was but FOS for example didn’t crack 20 disposals even once for the year. He had a very solid underage year and that’s what recruiting teams are going by. How many players have gone top 5 as a midfield prospect and not cracked 20 disposals in there draft year?

As for Draper, Jagga and Reid there really isn’t a lot of difference between the 3 prospects. There isn’t a massive tier gap, if you think there is then I suggest you go back and actually watch a bit of the 3 of them. Jagga and Reid were the most consistent probably of anyone in the draft pool and Draper had a very good SANFL period at the back end of the season.

Reid doesn’t appear to me any less developed as a player than the other two.

The Main difference being that the other two are slightly quicker than Reid but I’d argue he is better by foot considerably and just better with the ball in hand. Pick your poison, slightly slower player but doesn’t turn it over as much or quicker but not as productive with the ball.

How they project and transition to AFL is anyone’s guess. We don’t get access to interviews all we can go by is what we see and they are all pretty even.

I’m happy with these double ups. Hawks pics increasing in value

AFL 2025 FIXTURE DIFFICULTY (from easiest to hardest)
Based on the 2024 percentage of the teams they play twice in 2025
1 (Easiest). Richmond
2. Melbourne
3. Carlton
4. Adelaide Crows
5. Gold Coast Suns
6. West Coast Eagles
7. Western Bulldogs
8. Geelong
9. Sydney Swans
10. St Kilda
11. North Melbourne
12. GWS Giants
13. Fremantle
14. Essendon
15. Hawthorn
16. Collingwood
17. Port Adelaide
18 (Hardest). Brisbane Lions

So far so good in picking Hawks picks over Carltons....

Can't see how anyone could be unhappy if Reid slid to our pick. Ball winning mid who kicks goals and has elite disposal by both hand and foot. High footy iq who gets to the right places, makes good decisions and has the skills to finish it off. Which would give us something that we lack. We have a lot of athletes but are missing some natural footballers with good skills.

Sure he has a bit of that laconic movement style and lacks a bit of burst from stoppage but he seems to have a good side step, turns out of trouble pretty well and has an elite handball out of congestion. He kicks to where players are going to be with great vision and can also dart a pass I50 as well.
Avg 25 disposals and a goal a game in both champs and CTL, national champs MVP, back to back CTL champion and was named in the team of the year. Pretty good resume.
I think he will go before our pick but if he did slip to us I'd be stoked.

I'd be happy with any of TT, Reid or Lindsay with our first pick, hopefully one of them makes it to us.

Crazy how, Melb and Carlton get easier draws than us

Where do we think Ollie Hannaford will get picked? Just seen some clips online albeit obviously his highlights but I get some Zak Butters vibes. Small midfielder or a partner for Noah Long as smaller forward for years to come? Pick 26 worth for us? Looks like he has good pressure/closing speed and like to tackle.

No but get a full preseason into an already hardened Reid;
Hewett is talented and driven enough that if fit; he’s a gun.
Hutch showed he can hunt the footy and I believe he’s the “ball pig” we need.
Kelly goes back to fourth in line where he excels.
A good quality mid is coming this draft.Hopefully he can show us a bit.
Ruckman? BBW is a top No2 ruck/forward but we need a big mean MFker ruckman. Aahh Lycett where are you when we need you?
I like your enthusiasm but even with a prime Nic Nat feeding it down their throats we wouldn't be gold standard.

We have Williams, Flynn and Barnett which is possibly the worst ruck group of the comp.

Reid's a freak but Hewett and Hutch are both 2nd year players and won't be consistent.

We're another 2 dead set guns away from having a competitive midfield and that's with a ruck that can break even.

Warner might be one midfielder, but we first need him to pick us over Freo. Does he want to win flags or is he happy to rebuild for the next 3 to 4 years and wait while the kids get games into themselves?

Then we'll need to give up 2 years' worth of 1st rounders to get him.

Hopefully that will be the 2026 and 2027 picks and not next years. That pick has to be invested in a kid or we run the risk of having Yeo and Kelly fizzle out with only Reid and ....... in the midfield.

Reid, 2024 pick #3, 2025 pick #2 (have you seen our draw for next year!!!) and Warner would be handy.

Seems like a Sydney pick to me.

From the Tigers board :drunk:

Less than a week to go. This week has seen coaches and others go back to interview their preferred candidates, formalising the scenario. This of course comes with leaks forming through players, players family and friends and player managers.

Like Cal said yesterday some names are big focus for us. Lalor, O’Sullivan, Smilie, Whitlock, Bo Allan. There’s been a ton of work lately on all these guys. I’d have these guys as favourites for our first picks. I’m still not sure what we do at Pick one. Media is all over Lalor but I’ve heard strong word on FOS being the one. So we will see.

I know West Coast are thinking both Bo Allan and Jack Whitlock are not gonna be at their first pick so I expect Jobe Shanahan to come into play for them if all falls as expected.

Still a lot of water to go under the bridge. But some names are now coming out as more favoured for certain teams. A lot more will come over the weekend then Cal’s mock will be as close to what happens as possible.

All I know is it’s an exciting time to be a Tiger. 🐯

Maybe if he wins the flag with Sydney in 2025, he might be happy to come to us. If he doesn't maybe he will prefer to "chase a flag" with Freo.

Can we just re draft Lewis Jetta for kick ins and rotate him within a 50m arc of our bench for other field kick plays attacking going forward. He only has to come on for like 2 mins at a time haha.

Just miss his super creative long distance darts. Cracked a game/field open like no one could. Had his flaws elsewhere but don't think I have seen anyone with a kicking weapon like that and we are missing that kind of thing big time.

Anyone in this draft have a kicking weapon that comes close?
