Another Reid in the midfield is ok by me. Now that it is 3 years and our host family program, get Noah to mentor him in the “us young boys” club and back us in. Murphy Reid reminds me of Phil Kelly. Not sure Mini would like his defensive running

I suspect Olli Hotton being cut from Saints list may be enough to get Taj accepting life away from Melbourne
If we do draft Taj Hotton at 12, do not be in the least bit surprised if we offer Olli a train on spot over summer. Would help Taj settle into Perth life and Olli does have some attributes like speed and contested ball work that we’re in need of, particularly with the mooted new game plan.

I'm starting to come to terms with the Baker trade not being the reason why we fold the club.

While still a terrible not only because of what we traded but because of Clarke's genius negotiating skills of committing to Baker, agreeing to Baker's demands that we compensate Richmond fairly and then publicly announcing that we'd give Richmond a high pick.

But short of a disaster draft order, where only mids are selected ahead of us, it seems like whoever slides down to our pick will meet a list need. And even then, if a Tauru or Armstrong are inexplicably available at our pick, we'd be able to sell our pick for a small fortune I imagine.
Trading F1 would’ve been better if they were always splitting.

Murphy Reid + Xavier Lindsay and Baker for Hawks F1 would’ve been pretty decent

I think we'd be mad not to take Reid if he got to our pick. Very talented kid.

I'm just looking forward to the commentators calling "Reid wins the clearance and gets it out to Reid who hit's Reid lace out. Reid runs past for the handpass and kicks it"

The Age’s latest mock draft has FOS sliding to [emoji[emoji6]], Travaglia going to St.Kilda, Allan going to Richmond, us choosing Lindsay and Murphy Reid sliding to [emoji[emoji6][emoji6]], Hotton lasted until GWS’s first pick.

If this eventuates I’d definitely be shopping Hawks F + a F to get back into the Hotton / Reid sweepstakes.

I had Lindsay in my top

Cool

What happened to him being a massive flight risk and a dickhead?
Yeah I remember that, there's been a few posters suggest we've put a line through him as well.

All the phantoms seem to have him either going top 10 or skipping all the interstate teams in the teens and getting to the dogs. Don't think people should be getting their hopes up for him.

If FOS is there at 8, Saints 2nd pick

I'd be trading Hawks F1 and F2

Landing FOS and Lindsay/Ried would be a great result

Pick 3 and Barrass for Baker, FOS and Ried not a bad result in the end

Am I not allowed my own opinion on a player?

nah

But no chill out, my point was, you're in a privileged position, have previously said he's a big flight risk and character worry, but since you think now we'd be mad not to take him, led me to wonder whether there was reason for those potential concerns to have abated.

Once we got rid of pick 3 I haven't bothered to dig into how things currently stand because our pick is going to have any number of options, I can't imagine we'll know who we are going with until the pick before us is placed.

I think he is a talent and I say take the best option.

FWIW Hewett was a tosser as well in interviews and I was stoked to get him where we did. I was told whoever takes him need to make sure they have a very mature leadership team to pull him into line.

We could certainly do worse than Reid if available at our pick. So classy and just a natural footballer. Not the quickest but moves beautifully and is composed enough to work his way through traffic anyway. Very clean and creative by hand.

It’ll be really interesting if a few of Reid, TT, Lindsay, Allan are still available which way we do chose to go. Like all those prospects tbh. Some real talent there, exciting times

I still find it staggering that Hawthorn traded pick 14, F1, F2 & F3 for Carlton F1, F2, Barrass & WC F4.
If Carlton & Hawthorn's future picks are treated as a similar value (i.e. they are both finals contenders & positions are impossible to predict), then they essentially traded pick 14 & F3 for TB & F4.
Pretty shrewd trading by Hawthorn to give up a lot less than what we would've asked for. We reportedly wouldn't accept pick 14 on its own and wanted more.
Based on this idea, they ended up only giving up an extra pick in their F3 and got our F4 back.

Presumably based on reports. even up to the last minute they were still trying to get us to accept only F1 & F2 for F3.
We probably came out of it thinking we had a win by getting them to up the offer to F1, F2 & F3 for F4.

I hate the insinuation that Hawthorn traded their entire 2025 draft hand as they still hold Carlton's F1 & F2 which could potentially be higher than theirs.
Based on the fixture we’ve definitely got the better picks. If Carlton don’t finish top 4 with that draw they may as well pack it up

Pyke was on 6PR last night talking about the fixture but was also asked about the draft and whether we were still considering trading back into it at some point.

He conceded that clubs with picks in the top 10 weren’t likely to trade out but said we were still looking at the potential to get into the latter stages of the first round

Picks 15-23 are owned by GWS, Sydney and Richmond with the exception of pick 17 (Bulldogs). So we’d have to deal with one of those three to get something done

What might work?

Surely our F1 is off the table but the Hawthorn F1 could be

Would GWS(21), Sydney(22) or Richmond(23) take that Hawthorn F1 in a straight swap? Is that good value for us?

Or

Hawthorn F1 and 26 to GWS for 15/16 and 37

Hawthorn F2 and 26 to Sydney for 19 and 44

I think the main thing with any deal is that we end up with an extra pick in this draft and don’t trade out more picks overall than what we get back (eg: don’t trade 2 picks for 1, or 3 picks for 2)

Hadn't really considered this, but could we do a pick upgrade with the Saints. Let's say we really rate someone at Saints Pick 8 and we offer 12 and F2?

Only really Jagga or Draper I'd do that for personally, otherwise I'd wait to see who is available at 12.

Not to be argumentative, but it would take a lot more than an F2 to get up to 8 from 12 - especially this year.

If we can get another late 1st at a reasonable price I'd be happy to explore that provided we don't pay too much "draft night tax" which has shown to be costly for some clubs in the past.
