For all those thinking Hotton would be a good pick, check out his body language when asked how his knee is going. He is only 18 so what do you expect (sorry Matty - you have no excuses) but not a good thing to be scratching your neck when asked about the knee. (Please put in your 10 cents WCE_phil )

Looks like Hotton went to the Matty Clarke school of Bluffing and Negotiations. Please, can The Don intervene and just say no. Noah Long does not need the company of a Sandringham Mummy's Boy in rehab from day.

He is not yet running.
The ACL repair did not go as well as expected.
He had a follow up "clean out
It happens a lot. Relax. Long term it means stuff all. What it will mean is he won't play until late in the season next year and likely in the Maggoos. It's whether Pyke and Clarke are happy to take the talent knowing he wont play next year, or prefer the ready to go player?

In Hotton’s highlights package he appears to be playing at half-forward, and most of the highlights focus on his marking game. There’s very little stoppage craft amongst the content. There’s no real run and carry. I haven’t seen any more of him than the highlights but his stats suggest he can accumulate so presumably he has genuine midfield craft.

Does he project to be a mid at AFL level?

I don’t think we need more forwards at this stage of the re-build, especially not those coming off ACLs. I doubt whether he would be a serious marking threat at AFL level given his frame.

Just goes to show we got shafted on Barrass. Would’ve been better off taking 14 and change then let offers come for that
My memory is dulled from the alternative truthes around it, but I seem to be of the thought that the issue there was the offer was 14 with absolutely no steak knives whatsoever

I am hearing there is considerable backlash at St Blunders with the club desperately needing midfielders taking Tauru and Travaglia. Whilst I see Toby long term as an outside mid who is also the attacking option off half back, why would they go past Allan, Lindsay, Reid and Hotton?

There again, I think we at West Coast know what that is like.
Ross likes blokes that can run. Tobie fits that perfectly. I doubt they would take Allan if they take Tobie simply because both will start there AFL careers in defence you would think, quite similar roles.

Listening to Cal’s explanation of his phantom, 3 takeaways:

1. 0% chance TT gets to us
2. There’s at least 2 clubs who could take Berry before our pick (aiding our chances of getting Lindsay/Reid)
3. Minuscule chance Allan gets to us

He plays plenty at stoppages and wins the ball quite regularly.
He plays all around the ground, not just in the forward line
You need to watch the individual game videos.

North can’t even split pick two for something decent despite months of trying to be fair.

Think the best offer they’ve had is pick four and a couple of future thirds.
For mine they’re different things. North is trying to take free picks by moving down 2 spots but clubs aren’t keen on that because they’re getting a good mid in that range regardless. ie. gotta be prepared to move down further.

I’m more saying split 3 for 8-10 + 12-14. One of those picks sounds like enough for Norths or our F1 (plus more as Phil suggested) That would then surely hold enough value to the right bidder for a couple of late firsts.

Hypothetically ends up as 3 for 12, 15, 17 plus extras. Which doesn’t sound amazing at first glance until you consider the fact we traded 3 for 12 and Baker.

Surely we will be having a ping at 1 or 2 of Richmond's picks between 10 and 20.
Something along the lines of 12 + H F1 for 10+20 or 11+18.
Or 12,26 + Our F2 for their 10+20+F3. we get the downgrade this year and they get one next year.

I'm not that up to scratch with overall pick values but with the amount of first rounders they have surely there is a combo that gets our 12 down to their 10 which would make a few players who will be right on the cusp of 12 more likely available.
If we can bring back 26 half a dozen places or more even better.

With how we looked after them over the trade period surely there would be a little payback.

We can't afford to take the risk on Hotton, do not want.
I have concerns with Hotton and his knee, strong pass now.

Matty Clarke after hearing your concerns and selecting him tomorrow anyway:

If his brother Ollie is potentially a train on SSP I'm starting to think it's likely boiz. Better get your noodle around the idea and get on board.

I get that, but we obviously would’ve tried to do that. I don’t think we just accepted Carlton’s offer for the sake of it, that was just the best deal on the table from the clubs view, granted it was a shocking deal and we clearly only done it due to the desperation to get Baker done for whatever weird reason.

Yeah the desperation to get Baker meant we had no negotiating power in what looks now like a very strong negotiating position.

The value to trade into the top 10 with future picks (due to them potentially being less valuable next year) seems to be at an all time high and we’ve missed the boat because we went all in on Baker.

I'm waiting for the WCE_phil tell all book on the 2024 trade period, once he has a chance to sit on the beach and write it.

You can pre-order by sending $19.95 directly to my account.

I am pretty sure that all pre-order funds will need to be cleared through a Trading House in the Philippines after which I am sure the author will allow you you to pick up the brokerage charges for him.

Executed the entire off season terribly, hard to believe that even my worst nightmare was somehow better than what we did, lol.

Still in disbelief we’re going into this loaded draft with just picks 12 and 26, it’s inexcusable.

The main reason I don't want cotton is flight risk but one of the best things early in a season is to see new draft picks play and get amongst it.

Would suck knowing we don't see anyone til rd20

I'm surprised Cotton would agree to be a category b rookie.
No doubt he would excel at AFL with his basketball background but his age would be the biggest concern. 🤔

I just hope we hold all of next years picks, F**K pick swapping to improve our position in this years draft. Next years draft will be as strong as this years draft. Lets just get what we can with the picks we have & go full on next year hoping we dont bring anymore elderly (>25 years) players into the club.

Who’s out of contract at Richmond next year?

Asking for a friend, who wants the early heads up on our 2025 trade targets.

I am sure Clarke Kent is already getting in and doing the ground work early, by promising their managers that we can get a deal done.
