Wouldn’t that depend on what we’d have to give up to match? Have you seen him play live?
No it's more FOMO and I feel like while we are building a solid squad I'd like to add some flair and x Factor.

Only seen clips. Obviously he's not a 30 possie guy but can impact

Yep he’s very much low possession high impact and his highlights are sparkling but he fades out of matches, has had numerous concussions and really seems to lack the ability to create separation for someone of his speed and agility. This was particularly evident at the champs. I wouldn’t match if it cost a top 40-45 pick but I’m pretty confident rest assured that we’ll get him at the end of the draft for next to nothing.

There's a legit draft strategy to continually trade in futures for a premium year on year. Sure you may take a bath in the first year but theoretically you will improve your draft hand every year.
Spot on. Gold Coast started doing it a couple of years ago and have been growing their hand every year since. It’s like compounding interest and is an excellent draft strategy if you’re prepared to take that hit one year. Tassie coming in will roll them though.

So pick 3 landed a total of:

Bo Allan, Liam Baker, Matt Owies and mystery pick 45.

Everyone keeps repeating this and its wrong IMO.

Owies was traded essentially for our pick 63 and 68. Needs to be separate.

It's pick 3 for Baker, Allan and 45

Puts us about 4 years ahead of Norf's rebuild instantly, because we invested in a couple of quality senior players instead of hoping one kid, in an even draft, will take us to the promised land.

Also have a strong hand for the draft + Warner next year too.

Feel much better about things after the misery of trade week.
Gee you are dopey.

A rebuild means investing your resources in youth. Not using up resources that would otherwise have been invested in youth in importing 27 years olds at ridiculous overs. That is literally the opposite of getting ahead in your rebuild.

You have gone from denying a rebuild was necessary for years to now showing that you don't even know what a rebuild is or what it means.

And Warner needs to be a total non - consideration in the club's trade and draft strategy. The chances he ends up at our club are maybe 5%. And that is being generous. When was the last time a gun player left a top 4 side to go to a bottom 4 side in a trade? The only reason any player would make that decision is if there was a family illness or situation that made him want to back to his home state. Or the financial offer from the bottom 4 side was double what he could get anywhere else. Players want to play at club's where there is some likelihood of team success in the foreseeable future.

If he puts his hand up to go back to WA next year then by all means have a conversation with him. But be realistic and understand how long odds it is that he would want to go to a club that is where we are in the flag cycle. Especially when he can just as easily go to Freo. So put your best foot forward if the moment comes but don't expect it to come and certainly don't let it influence your thinking or decisions in the mean time.

After coughing up our 2024 R3 pick last year when moving up the draft order to select Clay Hall, our draft hand this year always looked a little light on for a rebuilding club - even before trading out pick 3.

In sliding back one draft spot this year, we still picked the guy we were keen on anyway in Bo, but crucially we have gained a R3 pick for free and have essentially recovered our position in the draft (our R3 this year would've been 42, and we now have 44). All the while ****ing Freo around in the process - a nice bit of payback for driving Baker's price up and other similar instances of shithousery over the years.

So you can now sort of look at it like this:

In 2023 we traded up from 40 to 38 to select Hall, costing ourselves an inconsequential one-pick slide in 2024.

And now we have traded pick 3 (Smith) for Baker, Allan and pick 44.*
If we can turn 44 into a good AFL player, all of a sudden the deal splitting pick 3 becomes a lot more palatable. In a such a deep draft there is plenty of quality in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, so I'm quite hopeful we can pick up a quality player.

I wasn't a fan of the pick 3/Baker trade at the time, and still think we probably overpaid for Baker, but in time it may actually prove to be a good move.

*in my head I have tended to separate Owies from the pick 3 trade - 3 for 12 and Baker; 63 and 68 (Darling pick) for Owies and 72.

Actually it was Owies and 73 for 63 and 68 but I get your point that it was a separate part of the pick 3 trade

However, the inclusion of that set of steak knives tacked on at the end seemed to be the tipping point to turn 3 for 12 and 14 from a no to a go

So it kinda is part of the pick 3 trade albeit a small one

Earlier we had reportedly said no to 3 for 12 + 14 when Carlton was hunting for a top pick.
Then all of a sudden we agreed to the trade when it was revealed Owies was involved.
Personally I think Owies should have been steak knives for no extra cost since we overpaid for pick 12 & 14.

Freo also quite keen on Shanahan it seems, it wouldn’t surprise to see them potentially try to trade up as well.

Richmond walk out bandits today- add another top 10 pick for next year and still have a valuable pick to either use or move around. It wouldn’t surprise to see them trade this pick to bolster next year.

So the video highlights of Allan on WCE website are almost exclusively of him intercepting at half back, or rebounding from back half.......
We're rolling the dice that one of him or Ginbey becomes a good mid
Replying to myself......
Now watched Allan's Prelim & GF league highlights.
He's definitely got some toe. Noticeably quicker than Ginbey, and cracks in harder too. Uses his pace around stoppage.
Although you see guys like Jagga and Draper play league and rack them up, Allan isn't going near those numbers

Nearly got through it all

I know some on here have been keen on Hayes. Looking at a couple of his highlights vids his run is excellent, and he's a good kick too.
Anyone know how Hayes was used at colts level this year though? Seemed to start of the year finding a bit of the ball but then in last 7 games his highest disposal tally was 17.....

I feel like everyone is forgetting Harvey Johnston. Thought he was pretty impressive when he got a chance this year. Showed he could play a few different roles & feel like he could be that speedy accumulator link player that we need.

I feel like everyone is forgetting Loch Rawlinson. Because whoever the **** is filming for the clubs socials sure as shit isn't, kids everywhere.

Entered the draft at 15, walked away with Allan, the highest rated Western Australian. Plus 45. For free. And we didn't do anything dumb like piss (lol) away our future picks.

I know Allan wasn't everyone's favourite for that pick, but I gotta give that win to Team Dry Sheets.

Having Pick 15 when we finished 16th is a whole other thing I'm not getting into here. Team Yellow won trade week.

But Draft Day One is 1-0 to Team Dry Sheets. Bring on Day Two.

I'm team dry sheets all the way on Allan, so much so that when they called his name out I accidentally joined the other other team wet sheets.

Or you could just include the extra picks and Owies?

Which nobody ever does. They include Owies but it's always without the rest of the details. Either include the lot, or separate Owies from the trade entirely.

Actually it was Owies and 73 for 63 and 68 but I get your point that it was a separate part of the pick 3 trade

Not wrong, wouldn't have happened without it.

We don't need another tall forward .

We have made maric go back because we have too many .

Sell the shanahan pick 30 to the highest bidder who can give us 2x picks in the mid to late 30s

Like essendon or port
