Orval was before my memories of footy, was he the forward we never had in 1990?
Yes, that vintage.
Chronic leg problems, from whai recall talking with collingwood people in the inner circle then, mark was very well regarded. However, injuries got the better of him. It happens.

Nathan Buckley
Len Thompson
Peter Daicos
Phil Carman
John Greening

would be the most talented players I've seen.

If we are talking 'greatest' as those that made the biggest contribution, then

Nathan Buckley
Len Thompson
Tony Shaw
Peter Daicos
Dane Swan/Gavin Brown

Shane Woewodin, Carl Steinfort, Billy Morrison

Tom Davidson, Sean Rusling looked good but couldn't get a run at it. Blake Caracella was handy for us before hurting his neck, Tom Hunter also suffered a neck injury. Danny Roach I never saw play, but he must have had some talent to go at pick 7.

Roach was a bad pick , Davidson would have been a handy player if it wasnt for his injuries.

Rusling ! Totally agree another player who could have been anything in the Lee Walker mould.

Morrison probably didnt have the mental toughness.
Steinfort and Woewodin were good role players.

sean Rusing = freeman

Also Graham Wright was one of my all time faves. Never, ever did he get beaten one in one. Was a champion and is now doing wonders for the Hawks.

1. Johnny Greening
2. Peter Daicos
3. Bobby Rose
4. Nathan Buckley
5. Darren Millane / Gavin Brown (sorry can't split them)

Carman was extroidinary too but flawed.....oh so flawed!
Never got to see Bobby play - my enduring memories of him are that sad, sad coach's face, but he was my father's hero, and that's saying something!

These sorts of lists are impossible, futile...so here I go:

1. Buckley...A bull in close, and sublime skill on the outside.
2. Rowdy...The sort of player I would like to have been, if only my instinct for self-preservation wasn't so refined.
3. Daicos...My clearest memories are from the later stages of his career, but this was enough to put him on the list.
4. Pendlebury...I still get gobsmacked by his movement through congestion.
5. Clement...Only wish he'd stuck around just a bit longer.

Honourable Mention: S. Burns, and not just because he tried to put J. Brown to sleep in a GF...but that was much appreciated.

My all-time favourite, along with Stan Magro, and for those of you that don't already know, the inspiration for my name on here: Hard as SSB.

Yep. I reckon that the brilliance of Buckley was allowed to shine just that little bit brighter because of the mongrel of Burns. They really did complement each other well.

The top 5 that I loved the most (with no justification provided, although - hint hint - there is a 1970s theme):

Des Tuddenham
Gavin Brown
Denis Banks
Ray Shaw
Ricky Barham

With special mentions to:
Billy Picken
Stan Magro
Ronnie Wearmouth

Barham was electric!

Bobby Rose was a faster, even more determined leader than Joel Selwood. He split packs and never lost his feet. Blokes much larger than Bobby tried "unsettling him" when he was younger but they had no idea how well Bobby could handle himself in the boxing ring!! He was an excellent boxer too! Great kick, super courageous....he was the total footballer.

I'm pretty sure Tony Shaw ran into a tree once, but you're right, I don't think it was the talent tree, I believe it was a Silver Birch or a Paperbark.
