I wonder how this goes down

Socceroos take bold, world-first stand against Cup hosts Qatar

Germany is now starting to realise the importance of base load reliable affordable (granted they have started to realise to late, but I'd argue better late than never).

Germany Is Dismantling A Wind Farm To Make Way For A Coal Mine

A wind farm is being dismantled in western Germany to make way for an expansion of an open-pit lignite coal mine in a “paradoxical” situation highlighting the current prioritization of energy security over clean energy in Europe’s biggest economy.

The dismantling of at least one wind turbine at the wind farm close to the German coal mine Garzweiler, operated by energy giant RWE, has already started. RWE says that lignite, or brown coal, has been mined from the Garzweiler coalfields for over 100 years.

RWE also said at the end of September that three of its lignite-fired coal units that were previously on standby would return to the electricity market on schedule in October.

“The three lignite units each have a capacity of 300 megawatts (MW). With their deployment, they contribute to strengthening the security of supply in Germany during the energy crisis and to saving natural gas in electricity generation,” RWE said last month.

Now the company is expanding the lignite mine at Garzweiler after a court in Münster in the western German state of North Rhine-Westphalia ruled in favor of the energy group in a land dispute in March this year to expand the lignite mine.

Commenting on the dismantling of wind turbines to make way for expanding a coal mine, Guido Steffen, a spokesperson for RWE, told the Guardian, “We realise this comes across as paradoxical.”

“But that is as matters stand,” Steffen added.

Earlier this week, the ministry for economic and energy affairs of the state of North-Rhine Westphalia urged RWE to abandon the plan to dismantle the wind farm.

“In the current situation, all potential for the use of renewable energy should be exhausted as much as possible and existing turbines should be in operation for as long as possible,” a spokesperson for the state’s ministry told the Guardian.
Its amazing how a crisis focuses the mind and with war in Europe and Russia cutting off gas supplies, how quickly the house of cards has fallen

I don't think anyone does not want renewable power to be the way of the future, but unfortunately until baseload issues have been fully resolved, there is a place for fossil fuel

Not exactly world first. Denmark are wearing a protest kit at the event.

Renewables are the way of the future and I have no problem supporting that but not at the expense of having reliable and affordable base load power. My issue with the government's approach atm is that we are not there yet so let's keep on reducing our emissions but at the same time keeping enough base load power in the grid that is reliable and affordable.

Example we hear all the times in a heatwave paramedics rock up to a place and an elderly person for example they have medical issues including heat stroke and they say turn on the cooler and the response is I can't afford it. This is only going to get 100x worse. So, let's keep up with reducing our emissions but also keeping up our energy needs with reliable and affordable base load power. So, if that is coal and gas until we have something that is both affordable and reliable to replace it.

Your whole argument fails.. and always has done so, and its been pointed out to you a thousand times in here mind you.. when you say people were forced to get the vax.

Because no one was forced. And this had been tested in our courts of law.

Yet you deceptively continue to say this.

Everyone had a choice to either get the vaccine or not get the vaccine. If some peoples continued employement in their current job at the time required them to get vaccinated then they had the choice.. get vaccinated or find a diferent job that didnt require them to be vaccinated..
So they had a choice. Simple.

Over 95% of Aussies over 18 got made the choice to get the vax..

A small group couldnt due to health issues..

A small group of dumbfxxks decided they werent gonna get the vax because some conspiracy theorists told them a whole heap on nonsense about the vax that they were gullible enough to believe.

Some of these dopey dumbfxxks are still whinging, pissing and moaning about the vax, that they never got forced to take, even though the rest of the world has moved on..

Fact: You were lied to about what the vaccine does and doesn’t do.

Fact: You were lied to about its safety profile (ATAGI has admitted it didn’t know about the heightened risk of myocarditis until five months after approval).

I don’t like being lied to. Maybe you and some others here are okay with it, that’s fine. Good for you.

Now let’s talk how people feel about being coerced.

More than half of respondents either said they regret getting vaccinated, or were unvaccinated and happy with their decision.

Only 35 per cent out of more than 45,000 people said they were vaccinated and would make the same decision again.

Not a single person said they were unvaccinated and regret the decision.

more than two thirds of respondents said Australia‘s leaders had been too heavy-handed in the pandemic response, 25 per cent said they did they best they could, and 8 per cent said as well as any other country.

And all the while little Chrissy Bowen marches Australia headlong into rising electricity costs that will see low income earners really struggle and no doubt many once viable businesses go to the wall. Not to mention Labor's already broken election promise of cheaper electricity bills to the tune of $275 for the average user.

Federal Budget 2022: Changes to climate change policy, EVs, disaster relief, power bills

Labor’s budget had no relief for surging energy prices despite growing calls for a national energy summit.
Yeah…

Its all labors fault that theres a war in the Ukraine.. Bowen started it didnt he?

And its all Labors fault that inflation has skyrocketed all over the world..

I mean.. And its quite obviously Labors fault that we just had 10 years of total an utter incompetence and inaction on energy policy from the deadshits in the LNP..

These are the reasons electricity, fuel and power prices are skyrocketting and will continue to for the foreseeable future.

10 years of nothing but the LNP arguing amongst themselves while the Energy industry was screaming out for them to do something.. anything.. and set a policy that they could invest by.

Will say though… The LNP nearly got there under Turnbull.. he had a policy… but it had to be dumped when the Labor party said they would support it!.. yep, you read that correct.. the LNP we AGAINST and dumped their very OWN energy policy when labor said they supported it..

Thats how fuxxkn ridiculous and partisan the LNP are. Willing to dump their own policy in order to oppose labor!.

Hopefully with the advent of the Teals.. we’ll never see the LNP in power ever again. Most useless dumbfxxk navalgazers in history.

As for power prices.. go solar Mutineer..

My bill for the last quarter was $90.. even though it was a wet and dreary winter and I have a pool, 4 Tv’s, 2 fridges, a chest freezer and two kids under 10 that dont know how to turn anything off!.

My in laws bill actually sees them get paid by their electricity provider!..

The problem with this is that the reason why the power was so expensive was because so many of the coal power stations were broken down. It is/was the failure of the fossil fuel generators which drove the prices, not renewables.

Never sure why people don't feel the need to post the entire article...

I think one thing you have to admire about conservative politicial parties was there ability to connect fossil fuels with being conservative.

Sure it got them booted from power, but it's made sure we have a generation of people who'll just regurgitate conservative talking points regardless of their truthfulness

Not only Germany, Poland has massive amounts of coal, but prices are skyrocketing. Others in the mix.

Fxxk me…

These newscorp newspaper flash polls are about as reliable as simply getting the opinion of the barfly down the local pub.. a total and utter joke.

Its just laughable that you are quoting it.. but not at all surprising..

And as for your “facts”… your opinions are about as far from fact as it possibly gets.

Easy fix for you. Post your poll that shows something different. The Newspoll is from subscribers so I don't think the results can be manipulated. The question could be loaded I suppose. It would be handy to have the ages of the voters. I'm surprised so many said they are unvaccinated. 57,000 voted

Jesus dude.. youre just embarrassing yourself now..

Have you never been taught/learnt how to critically think?

Its not up to me to prove a poll or survey, that is clearly being taken outside the scientific methods and contraints of Psephology, is wrong.

It is up to the person that posts the utter horsehit up for all of us to read to actually convince us as to why they think we should believe it..

And you actually, in the last sentences of your comment, start to alude to what is wrong with it when you state that you found it surprising that so many said they are unvaccinated..

57,000 people and 43% responded were unvaccinated..

Now.. knowing that the official government figures showed around 95% of Australians over 16 received some form of the vaccine..
what does that tell you about who it is that is taking the time to respond to this survey?.. and the sort of answers they would be likely to give.. they might as well just get Slippery Pete to respond 25,000 times!

And it is not a Newspol at all… it is a random survey placed at the end of an emotive news story on news.com a subsiduary of Newscorp.

Go and read it again.. notice how it starts by talking about how it felt to be locked down and used words and lines like “escaped”, “many of us want to erase it from our memories” and “loss”, “regret” etc etc..

All designed to get you thinking straight away that you were hard done by and your life was terrible during that period and that someone (the government) restricted your life..

Then next minute, with that in the front of your mind, they hit you with “here, you too can take the survey and let us know what you think”!!..

How do you think people are going to instantly respond?..

I've got no dog in this fight, and I'm not interested in either bagging De Santis or praising him, but I've looked at that Twitter thread and while no source for those figures was cited, there were many comments - unrebutted - that questioned the source / meaning of those figures. For example, that the money "taken from the Federal Government" includes things like Social Security payments to residents of the state (Florida being retirement central) and defence, and other federal departments / employees - in other words, federal money spent in the state, not money given to the state to prop up its budget. In Australia we're used to seeing a clearer picture of GST generated vs GST revenue received, for example, but this (US/Florida) example does not appear to be the same / as simple.

How out of touch with reality do you have to be to think the majority of young people took that f*cking jab for their health?

You really believe that? Really?

Do you operate in the real world?

They took it because someone threatened to take something away from them.

But don’t they talk about seceding. How would that work without money for defence, pensions etc.

You personally asked all these people did you?..

How the fxxk do you know why anyone decided to get the vaccine?..

You have nothing more than assumptions and an opinion based on your own personal biases…

You might be surprised to find that not everyone “thinks” like you!

But don’t they talk about seceding.
Who are these "they" of which you speak? Anyway, that's not the argument being made by the Twitterer - the argument is not "Florida can't afford to secede LOL", it's that Florida is a badly run state, financially / tax / revenue wise. Which the figures in the tweet do not seem to support.

Oh please. If nothing else it’s plain to see from the uptake since mandates morphed into recommendations.

Form the Dept of Health website:

Fourth doses

Australians considered most at risk of severe illness and those aged 30 and over are eligible to receive a fourth dose 3 months after their third dose

So have you?

Losing another arguement I see.
