I've said it before that I would love to see DeSantis VS Trump in the primaries, but after what happened in the 2016 with Ted Cruz I don't think it will happen because it will have the potential to damage DeSantis' brand moving forward.

If Trump runs I'm expecting DeSantis to step aside or run on a dual ticket with Trump.

Personally though I think he needs to strike while the iron is hot and even if Trump runs I think he still needs to run as this is most probably going to be DeSantis' best opportunity to become President.
De Santis looks like the best bet for the Republicans, and I suspect the smarter heads in the party know it. Apart from anything else, there's the practical matter that he's good for 2 terms, whereas Trump is only able to have one more term.

You could argue that given the likely field of Democrat candidates, even Trump could win it, but IMO that's far from a certainty whereas De Santis would be a very short priced favourite. I suspect the Trump supporters are over-estimating their ability to motivate Republican (or indeed independent) voters to turn out for him. And of course given it's not compulsory to vote, that's a big factor.

Agreed... but Presidential candidates aren't decided by "the smarter heads" - they're decided by the lowest common denominator, who make up the bulk of Republican voters in the primaries. If "smarter heads" prevailed, then Donald Trump wouldn't have been the Republican candidate in 2016 - let alone President.

I agree that De Santis would be the smarter decision... but smart has (unfortunately) got nothing to do with winning the primaries.

FMD..how far down the rabbit hole are you. Deranged stuff

They all think instability and ongoing international conflict has nothing to do with the leader of the free world and his policies.

What’s happening right now in front of your eyes is just all a big coincidence, you see.

Like the Crows winning the flag in 97. Nothing to do with the guy in charge. Could just as easily have happened under Robert Shaw.

actually Pete - a good analogy. Potus 45 was akin to Blight in relation to this latest Potus 46 Robert Shaw

The Biden/Shaw analogy isn't the worst you could have come up with.

But Trump was nothing like Blight. He's more Crazy Vossy of the Brisbane era (not Carlton era).

I think it's pretty telling that the party doesn't want Trump to announce his 2024 run until after the mid-terms.

I've said, the easiest way to solve this gluing yourself to gain exposure, is to just leave them there ......you glued yourself, so find your own way to get yourself free .....they won't do it again 🤣

Yeah I agree, I would have done the same thing to the idiots that did it in Rundle Mall.

Just leave them there and pay them no attention.

Once they realise that they'll stop doing it.

Good plan, when they're dumb enough to glue themselves to something like the floor.

Doesn't work so well when they glue themselves to a priceless art masterpiece, as some did earlier.

That is exactly the way to deal with them. A few days there and they will never do it again.

What I find amazing is that Trump supporters really believe he has their best interests or the interests of their country at heart or taht their lives will be better under the GOP.
Red states are in the main poorer states, and take rather than give, and have higher crime yet they are the ones run by the GOP. If Republicans are so terrific whynis that?
Because they line their own pockets and the pockets of their rich donors.
And to believe there will be more freedom under a Strongman type leadership is absolutely insane.
Some of them say they prefer Putin. Do they believe Putin would let them say and do as they please? Really?

I despise Putin but tell me. You as a Commie, why are you against Putin, someone of your same persuasion.

I don't pretend to be an expert on US politics and the mechanisms / politics of primaries in particular, but I wonder....

Yes, the "grass roots" voters went for Trump in 2016. But I think it would be a mistake to assume (as some do) that these are/were all RWNJs who just blindly want Trump back. Some may very well change their minds based on (1) how Trump performed as President and (2) the presence of maybe a more attractive option (e.g. De Santis). Plus, even though the primaries aren't decided by those "smarter heads", they can be influence by the lobbying, support and endorsement of prominent Republicans (and OK, some of those would be lobbying for Trump).

It was actually a glass / perspective protective sheet .....agree though, that's not as easy

We live in hope... but unfortunately the stupidity of MAGA supporters, and their enablers, knows no bounds.
