Coached right that team could make the finals in 2017.

I wouldn't want pick 1 for Patton (take away the #1 draft pick status, he's a FF who's averaging less than a goal a game in a top side) and Steele.

How? They've reached their peak. Their leadership is woefull. To reliant on 3 or 4 players and their second tier is garbage. They need to trade heavily. Their last big signing was Nathan Brown ffs.
It was based on a thread similar to this. I think people just like voting for Richmond in polls.

Don't worry, you didn't have to explain your joke to all of us

i don't see anything of patton to suggest he's worth the dealing the first pick.

Richmond. Given a rebuild is out of the question, all their duds will suddenly become A graders and gun recruit Travis Cloke will take them to a flag.

Maybe, maybe not. It's not like they've got a heap off upcoming retirements to key players. Those "3 or 4 players" that they are reliant on are 25, 26, 27 and 27, so they've still got plenty of years of footy left. Deledio's the only real worry in terms of age and he could still play for another 3-4 years.

You say they've peaked, but they could still build on this list for another 4 years. If Richmond have peaked, so have Port and Carlton.

We had injuries last year. Not sure richmond have had many.

Deledio, Cotchin, Edwards, Grimes, Maric, Houli, Conca, Yarran, Lambert, Grigg, Vlastuin, McIntosh, Astbury, Griffiths, Lennon and Morris have all missed with injury this year.

(Note this is only guys that are in the mix for the best 22. Others like McKenzie and Drummond have also been out).

Richmond have only had 5 players play every game. That's equal last with the Gold Coast. One of the least stable 22s in the league this year.

Essendons flag chances will have a massive reliance over the next few draft and trade periods. Many holes in the side with the forward line being the biggest. If Essendon can nail a gun mid, gun forward and add some other stars into the side they are in the mix for a premiership. With the bans implemented this year, players like fantasia, Merrett, Parish, Zaharakis, Tippa, Hartley and Langford, who are all apart of the future, are fast tracking their development.
Hate to break it to you but if you throw in a gun mid, gun forward and some other stars to the other bottom 10 teams, all of a sudden they aren't bottom 10 teams anymore.

:straining:I get you need to rebuild, and the game needs you to succeed, but thinking you can get Patton and Steele for a pick is silly.

The next 10 years
GWS, DOGS, SYDNEY HAWKS WCE ADELAIDE (possibly FREO) will dominate.
The 10 teams mentioned here have no chance. Not on the same level.
Saints maybe, but ONLY because we are the youngest and most inexperienced team in the comp and have shown some signs and have the most upside to come ... BUT realistically gws dogs etc are and will be on a another level for the next 10 years.

These 10 teams should really just do a very slow rebuild (top picks, save cash) to be ready for 2025 when these superteams may subside a little. But again that wont work for fans.

Im happy for the dogs our Brothers from the west BUT to think after 2009/2010 THEY will be the ones to win the flag ... LITTLE JEALOUS ... Such typical saints luck.

Hawthorn will probably drop off beyond this year. Certainly not to the extent Freo have, but unless they acquire some quality inside mids (e.g. O'Meara) and defenders through the draft/FA, I can't see them remaining in flag contention. Likely to hover around the 6-12 range for several years before reloading.

Sydney are looking good, but still rely heavily on Buddy up forward and need replacements for McVeigh/Richards in defence. Ruck division also looks a little weak in comparison to the other top sides.

Adelaide's list won't get them better than a 5-8 finish IMO, whilst West Coast can't seem to win away from home. Freo are nowhere near it, even if McCarthy/Hogan and some high picks elevate them to a mid-table position in the next 1-2 years.

The flag race actually looks fairly open over the next few years. GWS and the Dogs appear strongest, but the former won't dominate to the extent people seem to believe. Only Gold Coast, Essendon, Brisbane, Freo, Richmond (with the current list, might be a chance with some changes) and possibly Carlton/St Kilda (signs are good but still building) are without a shot at it IMO.

Cant see us us doing a silly deal like that, so wont happen
Steele is worth a late teens pick and Patton has done **** all this year. It would be a massive win for GWS

Steele for top pick maybe. I've been at our home games tbis year and watched them all and I snort in derision at your assessment of Patton. He's been doing a good job in ďifferent roles as required. Problem with top picks for us is every top pick that comes in at the top pushes a good player out at tbe bottom. With experience and more game time Patton could be anything, why trade him for an unknown. We have tbe points for tbe academy players we want for next year

Brisbane have the youngest list with an average age of 23 I believe and Carlton are going to be a dominate force within the next 8 or so years

Freo
Port Adelaide
Essendon
Collingwood
Carlton
St Kilda
Richmond
Melbourne
Gold Coast
Brisbane

Port and Freo are top because they have a good list and have shown they can play at the top. I expect Freo to be back up there next year.

You win premierships by having good structures within a club as well as a good list, Hawks, Sydney, Geelong and Collingwood all had this. Collingwood will always have good structures and I expect Essendon to refind them. Similarly, Carlton seem to be turning the corner and should be a powerhouse again once they get going.

I have a good feeling about the Saints. They are a while away still, but have the makings and they know how to be at the top from before their rebuild.

Richmond and Melbourne have showed promise but I'm not convinced they have turned the corner yet as clubs and have what they need to be a premiership team. Both have had promising lists go nowhere over a long period.

The current football teams in QLD are depressing, and I'm not sure when they will go anywhere.
