"If the outcome is not one that the vast majority agree with then the system is probably wrong."

I will be interested in hearing the arguments for and against. I wonder if Schofield will argue for careless or insufficient force. I hope the medical report is made public, and the two umpires who witnessed the incident and gave the report get to say their views.
Fixed that first bit for you. Let's be honest, you might have been replying to one specific post, but it's not just one person's opinion. The vast majority think it's wrong. The only people arguing otherwise are Melbourne supporters and even some of them aren't 100%. Among all the rubbish, there's the odd Melbourne supporter that's going against the grain saying that they don't think it's worthy of a suspension, or that Oliver overreacted.

Aboriginal players at the time were often racially abused but it was a while ago, things were different back then with regards to abuse, and I wouldn't hold Melbourne solely culpable for it. Bringing up the Lewis/Viney bite is not relevant to this thread.

Yeah this is not a good direction to go down. Racial vilification in that era was a massive societal issue that had many culprits from every club participating in, no one can look back at the way their club handled that issue at that time completely without shame.

If we're going to have a go at Oliver for remarking on incidents 25+ years ago perhaps we should take our own advice.

I thought he had staged it as well until i saw a slo mo that shows the ripple of the impact go through his chin. He also seemed legitimately pisssed at the impact and wanted to fight about it. Hes never been know to dive so i think its pretty harsh that this has tarnished his reputation. He got hit in a sweet spot and it stunned him

There was contact. There is no doubt about that.

The issue is Oliver's conduct immediately after and then well after the game had finished by posting stupid crap about Damien Martyn and provocative pictures on his Twitter.

Majority rules is not how a court/tribunal system works, nor should it ever be. Let the evidence, and witnesses, and parties speak for themselves then trust in the powers that be to make the right decision.

I do believe that the MRP should make adjustments to their rulings and judge based on action rather than outcome. However at this time that is not how things are done and the decision will follow the current laws that we have in place.

It was one of your fellow posters that brought it up for some reason.

Not defending them, don't really see what it had to do with my post that they quoted either.

Just on this, (and I know I'm biased) I actually find all the floggish bullshit he's posting to be entertaining. I've always been a fan of the villains and characters in the game (I actually like Hayden Ballantyne) and I think that level of shit-stirring is good for the spectacle.

Wasn't me that brought it up, simply stating a fact as to why Lewis was not happy that day and the reasons why.

It's great for the neutral fan and meme possibilities but personally it shits me. Yes I know many are just kids fresh out of high school but in the end they are professionals often earning well north of six figures representing a club I've supported for decades and it's simply unprofessional and floggish behaviour.

Here's the thing. Pauline Hansen might be more disliked than Clayton Oliver but there's also a lot more people who like her than Clayton Oliver. Does oliver get marked as a bigger campaigner on the balance of like/dislike?
I reckon that bothers him :drunk:

They can go both however i think the better way is to change from intentional. Because the half closed fist strikes the shoulder first it should be a very easy argument to say the elbow contact isn't intentional.
That is definitely the better option. Would be hard to prove insufficient force unless Melbourne's medical report is retracted or Oliver makes a statement that there wasn't sufficient force.
